Some scientific figures in the past were also religious. Isaac Newton, Galileo, etc. And modern church (not talking about ancient church who prosecuted those scientific figures) is pro-science. It's just some extreme followers that are anti-science and therefore people label/generalize Catholics/Christians as "flat-earthers". I've been in Catholic & Christian schools all my life until before uni, and all my friends and I are all wiz in science. It seems only in USA & Europe that people have problems in regard to church and conservatives so I don't know.
