I’m always surprised when I remember ISDs have infamous names in the galaxy, but it makes sense. Every powerful Navy names their ships, and the Empire is the pinnacle of Navy power.
All navies name their ships... Lol. The naming conventions used is completely dependent upon the martial culture of the Navy and the society it is from. The Empire's Navy was used to instill fear in its enemies to help subjugate various populous to the Empire's will. So, they name their ships to invoke thoughts/images around control, fear, death, and destruction. Partly to inspire fear and as a warning to what will happen to their enemies. Which is why the Empire uses names such as Avenger, Ravager, Devastator, Right to Rule, and Executor. The New Republic was trying to instill faith in its core ideals of peace, justice, freedom, and fairness. So, they name their ships around themes which invoke those thoughts/images. Which is why the New Republic uses names such as Rejuvenator and Emancipator. Navies also name their ships after famous people, civilian or military, important places, and/or battles. The naming convention used by navies is to assign a theme for ships of the same class or production order. _Ravager, Devastator_ would be of the same production order whereas _Adjudicator_ and _Avenger_ were of different production orders or built in different ship yards hence the difference in themes. Other naming convention is of social/political/cultural one. For instance the Royal Manticore Navy, in the Honorverse (by David Weber), has a List of Honour which is a list of ship names which are in perpetual commission to honour those ships and their crews successes, and more often sacrifices. The first ship on that list is _Nike._ _Nike_ HMS Nike was a battlecruiser. She was immortalized, along with her admiral, after Admiral Saganami took her out to fight 2 battlecruisers, 1 heavy cruiser, and 3 destroyers to protect the convoy he was escorting. The ships and her entire crew were lost in action. Their sacrifice prevented the enemy's remaining ships from capturing the merchant vessels they were escorting. The navy academy was renamed Saganami Island and every year the graduating class is shown the following recordings: Admiral Saganami admitting to a merchant captain that he is going on a death ride to protect the convoy, the battle plot taken from the merchant vessel which shows the success, and destruction of _Nike,_ and finally the last communication from Admiral Saganami just prior to _Nike's_ destruction. After a minute of solemn silence, the admiral in charge of the ceremonies declares "The Tradition Lives". As for _Nike_ herself, the navy's tradition is that the first ship of every new class of battlecruiser is named _Nike._ The previous Nike is named something else to avoid any confusion of course. _Nike_ is held in high regard, as it was Admiral Saganami's flagship, by everyone she is usually a squadron flagship, or a divisional commander's flagship. _Nike's_ captain is chosen among the most capable of officers and is usually on the fast tract for rapid promotion to flag rank. The same selection criteria is applied to her crew as well, while they may not be the best of the best, at worst they are very good at their jobs. An alternate tradition can be seen with HMS Unconquered. _Unconquered_ Lt. Commander D'Orville was the captain of _Unconquered_ when she was directed to investigate rumors that a system was developing viral nanotech (nanites which use biological matter to self-replicate killing the host). When she arrived, the system denied the rumors, until she boarded the space station where it was being developed. While on the space station, she learned the viral nanotech has breached all containment protocols and has infected everyone on board. She ordered her tactical officer to destroy the space station with a saturation of nuclear missiles and she refused to allow anyone to leave, including herself. Her sacrifice prevented the viral nanotech from spreading to the planet, and anywhere else. When _Unconquered_ was retired from service and was scheduled for the breakers, a group of navy personnel convinced the government to keep her in commission as _Unconquered_ was the only ship to have been captained by both Saganami and D'Orville. Unconquered is meticulously maintained in her original form with as many original parts as possible. The crew is selected based on competency and is considered to be the highest reward, short of a medal. Her commanding officer is an admiral chosen by currently serving admirals. The admiral has the privilege of wearing the white beret of a ship captain, but otherwise their position, like the rest of the crew, is ceremonial and doesn't impact their regularly assigned duties. I think I went into too much detail here. *Le Sigh*

Booster Terrik wasn't an idiot to let his (very lucrative!) shadow-port fall into real disrepair!
I would recommend reading the Hand of Thrawn duology. It is very clearly stated that the Errant Venture was falling apart due to maintenance costs. Aside from the red paint, one of the reasons why Terrik was happy to lend the ship to Bel Iblis for the Yaga Minor mission was because the New Republic was going to fully upgrade and fix up the ship. It is even stated that Terrik had to sell off most of the remaining guns because the ship was that expensive to run.

Early in the Yuuzhan Vong War, however, official figures suggest that the ship was once again carrying only her legal armament, and it is possible that the New Republic had forced him to strip her of her extra weaponry. Even if they had, however, Terrik had augmented her firepower with some sort of superweapon, capable of taking out a Yuuzhan Vong destroyer analog with a single shot. This was rumored to be a ship-killing superlaser similar to Durga's Darksaber, the plans for which Booster had acquired from the Hutts. Although it took several minutes to charge the weapon to full capacity, and its power was limited to destroying warships, it was said to be able to destroy any spaceship in its path for a light-year. It was also the first ship to be equipped with a gravitic amplitude modulator after the Fall of Coruscant. The Relentless holds a place in my heart, because of its use in the West End Games adventure module Tatooine Manhunt. Its one of my most favorite adventure modules from that era of Star Wars RPG's. I think this may even be the ships first appearance.
I haven't watched a lot of your videos lately, no particular reason really but what made you start going by your name in the intro instead of Eckharts Ladder? Threw me off a bit. Cheers.
The Errant Venture was and is my favorite ISD. The thought of a pirate crew owning an ISD and cruising the space lanes always made me giddy. My favorite time period is when only the front half was painted red and her captain was cursing the dead emperor for seemingly making only ISD white readily available and cheap throughout the galaxy.
Fleet battle between Grand admiral Thrawn vs. Ender Wiggin Each one has an equal sized fleet with equally capable subordinates, and since Ender is from a different universe each has equal understanding of the technology they’re using. They are in command of Star Wars vessels. Pick a famous fleet of your choosing I’d suggest death squadron.
I think Ender vs Blackjack Geary is a better matchup. Both are climbing a learning curve of sorts, performing simulations and developing tactics on the go in an unknown and rapidly changing strategic situation, whereas Thrawn is already at or near the apex and a strategic in addition to tactical genius.
@@Arashmickey Geary would spend half the battle afraid his legend would prevent anyone from disagreement and let him screw things up. And spend more time browbeating his Captains into line.

I never knew how famous the Chimera was in-universe. Hopefully it'll get a deserving introduction in the Disney+ universe. The fact that they haven't shown a standard ISD yet, even when it could've made sense for Moff Gideon to have one, may be a sign they actually are saving that moment for the Chimera.
Hopefully this comment doesn’t get buried but I for one would love to see a battle breakdown of the Yuuzhan Vong War, or at least a really in depth look at the conflict. That era of galactic history has always been so fascinating to me.

I still remember reading the part where the Chimaera reappears. Battle of Fondor if I'm not mistaken. *Spoiler Alert for Legacy of the Force* I was so sad when Pellaeon got killed (never did forgave Tahiri for that one) but it turned into such a badass moment when in his final moments he calls Tahiri a Villip and summons Daala and her fleet led by the Chimaera. One of the most epic moments post Yuuzhan Vong War.
I love the concept of the ISD Invidious… a pirate ship commanded by a former Imperial Admiral who utilized a previously unknown force sensitive group to guide her decisions in commanding her pirate coalition… and kitted out to better utilize what were makeshift Uglies that were almost standardized at a much higher quality than most other uglies.
I feel like they could do a movie where at some point a star destroyer that is an ally appears to help and the enemy thinks”reinforcements” but then just starts to get pelted by the ally star destroyer.
The force must have been with me last night when I commented about famous ISDs as a possible video. I have no doubt that you had this planned already before I commented. Absolutely love this this. If memory serves me correct, there as an Imperial Star Destroyer named Avenger II. I can't remember exactly but I remember there was a series of Star Wars Adventure Journals. One of them references said Star Destroyer after a storyline that featured some of the characters from the Heir to the Empire trilogy.
any thoughts on doing this for other classes like the Victory Star Destroyer, or more broadly for Republic-era capital ships? Learned a lot and like the dynamic/pacing of this ep, and it could definitely be re-done for other eras/ships without being boring.
I think it would be great to have a canon version of this as there are also many cool ISDs iin canon. Devastator would definitely be bumped up due to her victory at Scarif. I hope they do more detail about individual ISDs, the Overseer is an example of what they can do

It annoys the hell out of me that the New Republic and Galactic Alliance still relied so heavily on ISDs (probably cuz the writers didn't know other ships of the same role), to the point where names of New Republic heroes like Mon Mothma and Anakin Solo were being given to ISDs. Not to mention giving Ackbar's name to a Victory Star Destroyer of all ships.
I was hoping the one I got my nickname from would make to the list. I find funny the rebel one from the battle of Borleias did but the main antagonist and the one everyone was scared about didn't. Of course I'm talking about the Eviscerator. Still, I agree with most of the list. I expected the Chimera and the Errant venture being on the top and you didn't disappointed.
The Gorgon might have had a place there due to I, Jedi and the Jedi Academy Trillogy. The Relentless holds a place in my heart, because of its use in the West End Games adventure module Tatooine Manhunt. Its one of my most favorite adventure modules from that era of Star Wars RPG's. I think this may even be the ships first appearance.
This was a great video idea. My favourite is definitely the Chimaera.
I haven't watched a lot of your videos lately, no particular reason really but what made you start going by your name in the intro instead of Eckharts Ladder? Threw me off a bit. Cheers.
The ultimate Star Destroyer: IMPERIAL TAXES
*sees the crimson casino ISD*
I see no issues with your list.
Yooo, that Vite Ramen ain't no joke. I gave in and holy shit, it's derishus. It's officially part of my work lunch.
Fleet battle between
Grand admiral Thrawn vs. Ender Wiggin
Each one has an equal sized fleet with equally capable subordinates, and since Ender is from a different universe each has equal understanding of the technology they’re using. They are in command of Star Wars vessels. Pick a famous fleet of your choosing I’d suggest death squadron.
The only scenario where Ender wins is where he has more plot armor than Thrawn. Otherwise, I think Thrawn JUST outwits Ender.
@@blitzwinger999wright6 that does seem like a fair assessment considering one is seasoned military Veteran, and the other is just one smart kid.
i think thrown would win, but not easily
I think Ender vs Blackjack Geary is a better matchup. Both are climbing a learning curve of sorts, performing simulations and developing tactics on the go in an unknown and rapidly changing strategic situation, whereas Thrawn is already at or near the apex and a strategic in addition to tactical genius.
@@Arashmickey Geary would spend half the battle afraid his legend would prevent anyone from disagreement and let him screw things up. And spend more time browbeating his Captains into line.
Wow, I think this might be one of my favorite videos from you yet :) Thanks for all the amazing content you keep putting out
It's not an ISD, but K/Night Hammer gets cool points for the stealth paint and names.
If the Mon Mothma wasn't on this list I was legit gonna riot, I'm very happy to see the flagship of my boy Wedge make it here
Don't kid yourself, Wedge's flagship is an X-Wing... he probably has the cockpit for one installed on the bridge for his command chair.
@@KMCA779 Wedge achieved some of his greatest moments from the bridge of a Star Destroyer or even a Super Star Destroyer. While he definitely preferred a fighter, he was just as good in a Star Destroyer as a starfighter.
I don't know if there's any info out there, but I'd love to know what happened to The Ebon Hawk after Revan's defeat and T3 and the exile's deaths.
I don't usually go for stuff hawked by youtubers, but I finally broke down and ordered some Vite ramen with your coupon code. Excited to check out the garlic pork tonkatsu!
If I'm honest, I wished you had used the short clip from rogue one of the devastator appearing in the midst of retreating rebels. Would have given the ship more presence
I am questioning wether a ship, such as the anakin solo can be so heavily modified as to leave is original class lol
Finally a classic Eck video! Good start
But, Eck, you left out the Enterprise.....
...I'll just let myself out, shall I?
ISS ENTERPRISE

New thumbnails are cool Eck! Really excited to see what other things you’ll try 🙂
You have to make a Indepth video on the ANAKIN SOLO u know , it's confusing as if it's still a Star destroyer upgraded a little or a Light Dreadnought/battlecruiser
Love your list. I think the Freedom/Avarice from the Bacta War deserves a place, but your list is great.

Have to say, vite ramen is definitely worth it. Great tasting product and a great company. Just got my second shipment in.
The Invidious probably had one of the most eclectic and efficient crew. A task force comprising no less than the Home One, Rogue Squadron and two VSDs was sent after it.
Dude. That Yes Man profile pic is creepy af. 0_0
Errant venture is neat. Red 'uns go fasta
You mention the Errant Venture without mentioning the fact that she was at one point in time the galaxies largest and most heavily armed mobile casino?
I mean aside from the paint job that's the most interesting thing about her.
Question: Why are you using Justin in your greeting instead of EckhartsLadder?
Always enjoy your star wars videos. even though I dont know much about legends beyond the Thrawn trilogy.
Hopefully this comment doesn’t get buried but I for one would love to see a battle breakdown of the Yuuzhan Vong War, or at least a really in depth look at the conflict. That era of galactic history has always been so fascinating to me.
I would love to see an in depth breakdown of the battles of Borleis and Ebaq.
Haven’t even watched it yet but I can tell this is going to be an awesome video
At the beginning I knew for a fact chimera would be 1 or 2
Great video Eck!
im happy the anakin solo made the list after all i love darth caedus and he was my favorite sith lord along with sidious and caeduses grandfather darth vader i dont know much about kylo rens personals fosd
I knew the Devastator was going to be on this list
This was definitely a fun video. Maybe we can get something of a counterpart going over the most famous Venator (or republic in general) destroyers, or Mon Cal cruisers?
This is so weird that you just made a video on this topic. I have been looking up names of star destroyers for my lego stop motion movie.
Yeeessss!!!! I love this so much! Thank you Eck!
Great list! I would have included the Gorgon, the flagship of Admiral Daala. But all around, wonderful list.
so happy you put chimera as number 1 isd, It was a true monster , living up to the mythical beast . which it was name for also its color and HUGE emb of the chimera on the hull made it stick out any where.
Speaking of ISD's can you please do the Sith Eternal Fleet vs the imperial Naval fleet from legends (EU)?
Yeah don’t know why he hasn’t done videos like that the Sith eternal fleet and Sith empire in general in the old republic series is so crazy strong would be interesting to see the turnout for that battle
How big was the EU imperial fleet? Because didn't the sith eternal have 10,000 xyston's?
I still remember reading the part where the Chimaera reappears. Battle of Fondor if I'm not mistaken.
*Spoiler Alert for Legacy of the Force*
I was so sad when Pellaeon got killed (never did forgave Tahiri for that one) but it turned into such a badass moment when in his final moments he calls Tahiri a Villip and summons Daala and her fleet led by the Chimaera. One of the most epic moments post Yuuzhan Vong War.
I’m glad you included the Errant Venture. Only Booster would be crazy enough to pay that much money to paint an entire star destroyer red.
Definitely liked this one
Everyone loves a top 10 list.
Sue me if you want, but I always loved Star Destroyers
I love the concept of the ISD Invidious… a pirate ship commanded by a former Imperial Admiral who utilized a previously unknown force sensitive group to guide her decisions in commanding her pirate coalition… and kitted out to better utilize what were makeshift Uglies that were almost standardized at a much higher quality than most other uglies.
very unique video eck! *liked*
When I first started creating my own star fleet years ago, one of the first ships that I named was the Stormhawk. Always loved that name.
Yeah, this tickles the nostalgia bone.
Absolutely loved this, Star Destroyers are one of my favorite capital ships of all sci-fi
(Again, I don't know much outside of the movies) I'm learning these names of the ISDs for the first time. All I could think about as you were describing the importance of the Rejuvenator, was the USS Arizona BB-39. A ship that didn't do a whole lot in WW2 but is very well known for being at Pearl Harbor.
Great vid
I love your videos, I always learn thing abouts Legends that I didn't know and I also love how calm you are, keep up the great work!
Amazing breakdown eckhartds ladder this was an amazing video,I enjoyed today's because it involve lore I didn't know alot about from legends.
A bit odd that you didn't mention the Errant Venture was a casino.
Among other things. It was more of a mobile shadow port, a place where anything and everything illicit one may desire could be found.

Again, loved the video from beginning to end and your #1 was absolutely bang on!!!
Awesome list! Totally forgot about errant venture going into it
Top 10 Sith Artifacts/Holocrons. No-one seems to talk about stuff like that.
Hi
@@fizzy4877 Hello
any thoughts on doing this for other classes like the Victory Star Destroyer, or more broadly for Republic-era capital ships? Learned a lot and like the dynamic/pacing of this ep, and it could definitely be re-done for other eras/ships without being boring.
I think it would be great to have a canon version of this as there are also many cool ISDs iin canon. Devastator would definitely be bumped up due to her victory at Scarif. I hope they do more detail about individual ISDs, the Overseer is an example of what they can do

Most unique ISDs? Like the unique paint job on the Chimaera, which isn't that special but still cool.
Hey Eck I've been a listener to your videos for about a year now and you do an amazing job with all of your lore videos and everything...I was hoping you would have added to this video the star destroyer that Admiral Versio was in command of in the campaign of BF2...I can't remember it it was the Dauntless or not lol
It'd be cool to see a video like this on the super star destroyers
I´m very pleased with the outcome of this video! 😌
0:42 ok, my guess is an entire ISD-2 sculpted out of Ramen
This is the kinda content I wanna see let's keep it coming!
Would love to hear your top 10 favorite ships video, would be quite interesting
You should definitely cover some backstory and info on the Zann Consortium faction and ships. :D
Fleet battle idea
Rebel fleet at Endor vs. Cole’s fleet from Cole’s last stand.
Great Stuff Eck.
The concept of the Imperial Remnant working with the New Republic just reminds me of the Eternal Alliance, maybe that's just my headache talking.
im happy chimera is first its the only one ive heard mentioned outside of deep lore talks, or reading the books.
A video about the end of the star wars universes story. Who won and how it. I find it really interesting
Awesome video. Maybe you could do a similar style video for Mass Effect, 40k, and Halo.

The Gorgon might have had a place there due to I, Jedi and the Jedi Academy Trillogy.
Zaarin's Glory could fit, though if you wanted something major, the Majestic could work as it's the Emperor's ship. The Grey Wolf is another since it was Thrawns Flagship prior to his return to Imperial Space for the events of Heir to the Empire.
Omg I love this concept as an idea
