This really works!!! I had a big overnight blood stain accident because of Mother Nature. My mattress is 3 yrs old. I don't want any stains on it. By the way, I had a mattress protector on it.
IT WORKS‼️ I am doing this as a type. Aunt Flo showed up in the middle night. Just great. Found this vid & another vid that gave me similar steps except this one use the iron. So I opted for this one since prior mishaps left the ring. And it works!!!! AND I AM USING THE 3% Walgreens brand peroxide. The blood was nearly gone with just use of 3% peroxide but the ammonia sealed the deal. Now working on the ring 🙌🏾 & will clean up prior mishaps.
Thank you! I used this method when someone gave me a used but very new mattress topper. It was covered with old blood stains. It worked fantastically. The only thing is that I had my iron on the highest setting and I touched a dry spot and I burned the fabric and it tore a little but I am going to put some fabric glue and patch it. I will be using a mattress cover which I always use. Keeps the mattress new.
Thanks for the feedback! I'm glad it worked out for you (mostly). Yes, it is important to note that the iron temp should be adjusted to the mattress material type.
I have a memory foam mattress. And it looks like it has a very thin cloth sheet sown to it. How would I need to go about cleaning it up. My spot is around the same size as your video. Where my dog bleed on it 2 years ago. I haven't slept on my bed since and can't find anyone that wants to clean it.
I used Windex ammonia-based foam window cleaner to clean a blood spot. It took a long time and a lot of scrubbing and there was still a barely visible stain left. I then cleaned a urine stain with baking soda, peroxide, and Dawn and it completely removed the urine stain, so I tried it on the remaining blood stain, which made it nearly invisible. I need to do a repeat cleaning of the blood stain, but I'm positive it will come out completely. I didn't use any heat. The urine and blood stains both spread no matter how careful you are, but if you keep at it, all stains will disappear. Urine and blood stain cleaning is NOT a 20 minute job. I had a mattress protector on the bed but there was a section that wore through that I didn't see which caused the urine stain. The blood stain was on the side of the mattress that the protector didn't cover. Needless to say, I bought a new protector for the mattress. I have no doubt that the method described above will work.
It is quicker if you use a higher concentration solution of H₂O₂ - it's almost immediate, in fact. Dry cleaners use a 35% solution - but wisely and sparingly, obvs.

I absolutely love the dedication 👏 my man spilled blood to make thi video. Lol but on a serious note....thank you for an informative video! Will give this a try!
This was so excellent although I wondered who provided the blood and how it was acquired the whole video. Regardless, I'm SO grateful for this video as I already see a difference on a set stain working with 3% hydrogen peroxide although I hope to find 6% somewhere soon.
Treat the mattress the same way you would a piece of clothing. Check the type of material the mattress is made of on the tag, then adjust the iron heat setting to that material type. If you are unsure what material the mattress is made of, be safe and use the lowest heat setting, or a heat setting for synthetic material.
This worked scarily well. Feel like I've wasted my life not knowing this (about how much 6% works this much better. On fresher stain, I find 3% cold water is fine, but older stains scare me). Are there any toxic gases, as a result, that I should be concerned about? Do they linger long if so and the best method of ventilation? I've essentially become a stay at home wife, so, as you could imagine- chemistry fasinates me (and to think in high school ai was all about physics. What a fool)
Yes, the heat from the iron will help break down the hydrogen peroxide quickly, and as the hydrogen peroxide breaks down, the stain will break down too.
Tried meat tenderizer, doesn’t work. Tried hydrogen peroxide, does not work, just smeared the blood everywhere. Darn. Tried putting bleach on the stain and THAT worked. Will try the iron thing once the mattress dries.
A spray bottle makes it easier to control/limit the amount of peroxide and ammonia you are adding to the mattress. It's best to use one so you don't over wet the mattress.
It depends on the stain, and whether or not is has fully or partially set in. With set in blood stains, I don't know of any other methods. For blood stains that are not set in, hydrogen peroxide, household ammonia, or an enzyme cleaner would be the best cleaning agents.
Hi thanks so much for making this video! Instead of an iron would it be ok to use the base of a clean hot pan? i don't have an iron at the moment so I'm trying to come up with an alternative :)
It is best to use an iron so you can easily control the temperature and adjust the setting to the mattress material type. If you use a pan, it could possibly be too hot and damage the mattress.
I have never tried it, but I don't think a hair dryer would work very well for this. Have you tried to remove the blood stain without the iron? Fresher blood stains don't always need an iron.
Generally it is safe to use hydrogen peroxide on colored carpets. Carpet manufacturers typically use dyes that cannot be broken down by hydrogen peroxide. If you have a carpet that is multi-colored, I would do a colorfast test before using any cleaning or stain removal product.
Vinegar will not work unfortunately. Ammonia accelerates the hydrogen peroxide decomposition, which is why it is effective. Have you tried to remove the blood stain with 6% hydrogen peroxide alone (the first step in the video)?
