We were given them as an incentive for our workforce to get fit, 10000 steps being the arbitrary goal. I often strapped mine to the dog - goal achieved! 😂
When we had a Wii Sports console, we encouraged our nephew to exercise using the running app that requires you to put the remote in your pocket while you jog on the spot. He quickly figured out that you could sit on the sofa and just wave the remote with your hand
Used to take something like this along when walkin' the dawg. The mileage display was off to the point that I thought that I should compete in marathons.
1:37 It is very generous "debounced" so you can not do fake-steps by shaking it. At least that is what I think when mine accurately counted steps but did not want to count my shakes.
Trivia: Most of those 3d accel devices are wired for i2c, but the chip itself will report MUCH faster with SPI. Takes some surgery, but the upgrade can be made. Something I discovered while hacking my device to do printer input shaping with the material at hand.
its still a a good cheap no-tech no internet thing to use to count something else,, Put a reed switch on the fridge door to see how often you snack, hook a relay to equipment to count power-ons you can also use as a handheld tally counter, with the addition of a switch. depending on the response time, with the addition of a pushbutton, you can use it to calculate rpm, magnet on the wheel, with reed pickup. hold switch down to connect sensor, hold for 60 seconds and on release you get the rotations/minute
As a 'fare dinkum Aussie', it would be remiss of me to not comment on your beer issue. The foam, or head, on a beer is instrumental in keeping the beer fresh, right down to the last swig. The art is in the pouring, and a closely guarded secret, handed down from generation to generation. ;)
I have 3 of these things and recently installed new batteries in them. They all lit up and started counting when wiggled. However, one was registering two steps per wiggle. So I thought I'd check here and was surprised to not only find a video but was shocked to find a video of the exact one I'm having a problem with. When I opened mine though I found the wire spring laying loose inside. Not knowing how it was originally assembled led me here. So, after all that and feeling lucky to have found your video I was then disappointed to see that you just tore yours apart and left it like that. It would've impressed me (and been greater help) if you had put it back together and showed it still worked. Anyone can tear just about anything apart.. but what good is that? You were more informative about that crappy looking beer.. and spent just about the same amount of time on it. Long story short.. your video is about as useful as you.. so do us all a favor and don't waste our time making any more.
I like your videos, but I don't like the opening with beer, so I just gonna unsubscribe. I am not a fan of this.
I love the beery openings - it's populating a list for me to try next time I'm across the pond. Keep it up!
I don't drink beer either, but I'll crack open a Bud Lite to celebrate your departure.
I know, he really should review the beer, too. I've nagged him about it.
Pretty much every video opens with beer. Why did you subscribe in the first place?
I like the beer openings; it tells me when he's not on-call, i.e., a hap-hap-happy week!

I use the washing machine on spin 🙂
The notches in the lever were for sensitivity adjustment by moving the spring closer or farther away from the fulcrum.

I was surprised to see it's a mechanical switch.

I modifies one to use in a Useless machine to see how many visitors flicked the switch at a several maker shows .
Finally, something I've never taken apart (or used tbh). Seen them in thrift stores but never bothered to open one up. Thanks for this.
Nice work as always 👏👏
I used something similar for running, until I got a Garmin watch in 2012 (which has long since been replaced)

Now your think outside the box! Great examples of a no-tech, no-internet device, I like where you're going with this.

;)
One hack is to replace the "mechanical counting mechanism" with a button to get a simple (and cheap) counter. 😉
It has been a while since I held a purely mechanical counter. Guess they left the scene in the 70's.
Can I just say as a non drinker of alcohol that is, keep on taking the hit for me. 😂😅
A non drinker of Alcohol ?????? really I've seen your videos you must be on something🙂
@@fredflintstone1 Nice one Fred always the first to step up and be counted. 🙂

5:06 - 1M, surely?
Yeah, mathing, thinking and talking simultaneously is hard work...
Very impressive! Only nit picking because engagement is good for the algo ;)
@@pileofstuff yeah, we knew what you were trying to say! I have a hard time just doing one thing. Thanks for the vjeo.
DOOD!
