Before you go any further do a tape test on various areas using your masking tape and rip it off to check adhesion. You don't want to do body work and find out that your epoxy is not adhered. Not many people have the patients to do a proper job, they think paint hides bad work and it does to a point until it flies off. Excellent work !!!

I was in my late teens in the late 70s. Dad and I would buy late model wrecked cars and fix them up. Dad had enough air pressure to paint a panel on a car but not enough to paint an entire car. But we had a friend who owned a body shop who would paint an entire car for us for $100-150 (remember, 1979 dollars) IF we brought it in ready to paint (primered & all taped up) and supplied the paint. Couldn't beat that deal with a stick and he was the best painter in northeast Neb. Dad was a good painter too, but part of his success was the prep work we did beforehand.

2:51 / 16:45: so a old school way of sanding inside of the vents is this. Get metal cloth hangers. You need to measure about 3-4 ½ inches. Cut the metal hangers. Bend the tip part a believe 1 ½ inch. Then get sandpaper and cut long strips. Place front and back sand paper. Making sure the grit do the papers are facing up to sand the metal vents. Pinch the bent hook on the metal hanger in the middle of the sandpapers. After you have a lot of these done. Place the metal homemade sandpaper strips in a drill. Lock them down in the drill. And place the sandpaper in the vent groves carefully. Then apply power and let the sandpaper do its magic.

  • @redporschekilla

Sarah…… it takes as long as it takes….. I sanded, prepped, sanded some more, oh and I sanded again…. Painted my VDub Jetta MK1 GLI (and I didn’t change the color!)……. IT TOOK 4EVER! … but and again, you’re authentic and STAY THAT WAY, because it takes as long as it takes! You can’t rush art end of story and I love your “next day” segways anyways so …. Stop making excuses for something which doesn’t need one excuse to begin with!

Back in the 70's my Dad worked in Togo, Africa and my Mum and I used to visit him during the summers. Most of the cars were Toyotas and Ford Escorts and most of them were bright white in colour. Unfortunately they rusted pretty quickly due to the humid, salty air which showed through the white paint. There was a whole industry of painting over the rust for dealers who sold used cars. Usually to unsuspecting foreigners.
