We drove up a moment to sleep for the night just East of Santa Barbara, CA and it was a big mistake. Our 40 foot Gillig Phantom School Bus Conversion barely fit on the road and you can't quite feel it in the video but the incline was extreme. However this video has an unexpected hero: our daughter Nova. Watch the video and maybe you'll see what I mean. - Justin

Way to navigate that 40 footer!! Although, I believe the only real reason you made it down is because of Nova's cheering you on. I'm pretty sure you'd still be stuck up there if it weren't for her.
Nova definitely helped me down. It was actually way sketchier than it looked. Never should have gone up there!

Aw thank you. In person it was super steep too. I really do feel comfortable driving that bus now though. I've been through a lot with it.

When were you in Santa Barbara? I keep my skoolie up in those mtns all the time. I feel like I've seen your bus around somewhere on the road.
We were there for just a handful of days in the fall of 2020.
I grew up in the San Bernardino mountains and our school had there own bus fleet of mostly 10 speed from the 60s I like to call Twinkie buses (because they look like giant Twinkies lol) anyway this gave me a whole new respect for those drivers that had to drive us at least 45 minutes to then from school on roads like this even in the snow with chains! The stress of driving a bus load of kids along a cliff even on a good day must have been sooo draining! Good job driving that! Also just wondering but you have an exhaust brake (jake brake) on that bus, correct?
