As a brazilian, I can tell it wasn't only the Amazon rainforest that was in danger, someone was setting forests on fire everywhere. There's a beautiful landscape in the middle of the way I used to take to go to university and I could see three or four spots burning in the middle of the forests. It used to happen every single day

Fire is a good thing. It gets rid of all the old and dead underbrush, and fertilizes the nutrient depleted soil. 5 to 10 years from now these burned areas will be lush forest again, and you won't be able to tell there was ever a fire. In fact it will be in better shape than it would have been without the fires.

Note: The photojournalists need to get more footage of actual forests on fire. Grass fires on already deforested land is misleading. Smoldering carcasses of dead wildlife would be more accurate. Talking to ranchers is besides the point since they’re part of the problem.
