The cloth or leather used to protect the head when wearing the helmet is called ukebari.
Ukebari is also called ukeura or uchibari. It seems that painted leather is often used for the leather, and the fabric used is indigo-dyed navy blue linen or, in modern times, crepe.
The book I used as reference when making this was Shikasuyo. This book was written by Oseki masunari, the feudal lord of Shimotuke Province. He has aiso written a book called Nerikawashiki. This is a book on how to make armor from leather. He has made 10 ryo of leather armor in his lifetime.
This was my first time making a Ukebari. I failed.
The second one turned out well. I think anyone can make it.
