I love your new series, very interesting ! I’m going to be 40 soon and I never had driving lessons before! That’s mainly because I’m from London, England where we have very good public transport system, so you don’t need to drive. Also, your jaywalking law made me laugh when I first heard of it as we do this all the time over here and that’s normal for us. As a result, I have heard before that fellow Brits do get caught out by the police when they visit US lol. By the way I’ve been following you for a while, I’m half Chinese too a long with half English/Scottish/Welsh 😁 I’m more Westernised though!
This was a really nice, well-crafted video, kudos to you. This was something that also pained me a lot growing up in south Florida (and going to FIU), the lack of civilian-supported infrastructure and the poor application of urban planning and development. Unfortunately, as I'm sure that you're familiar with -- it's like this all over the US. I've grown to see a lot has to do with complacency and a lack of creativity -- and how much that transpires top-down from our elected legislators at the federal level all the way down to commissioners at the local level, is amazing. So many people in positions of power are wildly unbothered to address these gaps in society (not just exclusive to infrastructure, but with all instances related to improving quality of life) and as a result, untethered to reality that continuing to apply archaic practices is somehow feasible, let alone sustainable. Not sure if you've heard of the non-profit org called Strong Towns, but I think you'd like and appreciate their content. I gotta stop rambling lol things like this can really send me on a tangent 🤣
Alot of our towns got destroyed by Walmart and other stores that intentionally place themselves to reach the widest customer base, in which they build outside of the city or town, and kill off the retail in said town, thus people who live in the town have to drive, just like the rural and suburban residents do. People love to hate on dollar general, but at least they are helping to bring back something to walk to in many rural areas and small towns that lost all of their retail in the walmart age.
i have noticed all these problems even more recently and i have become interested in architecture. I cycle around miami looking for beauty and to be inspired, i like hanging out at fiu because its close by and i can do some bird watching and take pictures of the sunset, i wish miami had more parks, i love finding out new spots with lots of trees and the beautiful miami birds. i hope people push for more green secure areas. love your trajectory! keep up the good work and the grades
Great points! I highly encourage watching urbanist channels like Not Just Bikes or Alan Fisher, they raise really good points about the detrimental effects of car dependency and how building walkable and transit friendly cities for people benefits everyone!
cant wait to see what you do next with this series. america is one big ashy parking lot. I want to do a walkability video on my area about my quest to get to the supermarket
Ever walk to the grocery store and drivers that pass by stare like you have 3 heads ? 😂 I feel judged when I’m walking or taking the bus as if I’m poor or can’t afford a car… I just like walking damn.
car dependent cities produce jobs in the auto industry, highway construction and the oil industry, and of course the military. gotta love them war for oils. problem is the USA hit peak oil in the 70's and car dependent cities became economically infeasible, do you think that got grandma and grandpa out of their cars? of course not ! that's because they hate their children and grandchildren

Urban Planning channels are popping up left and right. Just a few years ago nobody thought about any of this.

It isn't just a USA but most of the colonial anglosphere. Look at Canada, look at Australia and look at New Zealand.
