Boothe es uno de los más extraordinarios cantantes de la historia del reggae jamaicano. Empezó como cantante desde muy joven, a dúo con Stranger Cole en los tiempos del ska, con grandes temas como “Artibella”, “World’s Fair” “Hush” y “All your friends”.
Con el paso del ska al rocksteady salió a la luz la cálida y profunda vena soul de Ken, con material extraordinario para Studio One, entre el cual grandes temas como “The train is coming”, “I don’t want to see you cry”, “Puppet on a string” y “Moving away”. Su éxito más aclamado llegó sin embargo en 1974 con “Everything I own”; la popularidad de este tema se expandió hasta los confines de los apasionados del reggae, y llegó incluso a estar a la cabeza de las listas de éxitos pop inglesas en el mismo año.
En 1975 Ken Boothe volvió a la cabeza de las listas de éxitos pop en Reino Unido gracias a “Crying over you”, que llegó hasta el undécimo puesto. Como atestigua el documental “Rocksteady: the roots of reggae”, la voz de Ken ha llegado inalterada hasta nuestros días!
