I break down what my rig is. How I use it to get my tones. Everything I've learned about this gear and how I bought it all.
It is long winded but if you wanted me to talk about my gear, here's me doing it for almost an hour.
    Enjoy.

I play in a pop punk band and am proudly a BAB (barely adequate bassist). Love hearing your perspective on things. Don't agree 100% with everything but loved hearing your perspective. I bump the mids on a svt style amp even with 2 guitarists. Love that sound!

One of my best friends is also a bassist and we disagree on literally everything when it comes to EQ and gear but we both get great tone that the other can appreciate. No wrong way to eat the tone reese's, so to speak.

Hey man I love the information you’re giving here. I’d love to chat with you and pick your brain how I can achieve this tone because this is close to the exact tone I’ve been searching to get!

    pedalboard 12:53
Doing my own research and found this channel, a blessing.
If you want to add some 'color' the MXR Thump has an echoplex that colors the sound in a musically pleasant way. The Tech21 Q-Strip also adds a nice color. Subtlety searching tonight.
The Holy Grail of compression is the Seymour Duncan Studio Bass I hear o.O
An underrated pedal is the Seymour Duncan Paranormal bass, it's own character.
That VT Bass is essential, The new dug Pinnick pedal tone is brilliant too.
    Nice darkglass!!!

This is maybe the least important gear question, but what are you using for a rack case? I'm looking for a 3U for the Ampeg SVT 3 pro (2 spaces for the head, 1 space for a power conditioner [I use a pedal tuner rather than a rack]), but reading reviews is a nightmare: all racks are top shelf BUT ALSO are the worst thing ever made if these mixed reviews are to be believed.

Gator 4U rack case. A 3U will work but somtimes stuff is slightly bigger than 1u and you'll be thankful you have the extra space. Will they take a bullet or handle a tumble down stairs? Probably not so don't shoot it or drop it down stairs. I would recommend one with the suitcase handle and wheels. It's not terribly heavy but you will get tired of carrying it.

do you use the effects return or go right into the input?

Straight into the input. The effects loop on my svt 3pro was actually broken so I couldn't use it even if I wanted to.
