When i was a kid my friends and I formed the misfits of science club.. You had to have some sort of misfit power to be part of it.. So one of my friends at the time had a cast on his arm so his power was an arm as strong as concrete.. I wore glasses (still do) so if i took my glasses off i had extra vision powers such as xray vision or telescopic vision. My other friend had powers of speed and yet my other friend had powers of speech (lol he never shut up) and my friends sister could make her barbies come to life so anyone want to join the club
This show had really good production values for the era... One of those cancelation that still hurt. I was today years old when I learned the leader actor was Dean Martin's son. And that he died in 1987.
I just educated a 20-something about this show because she's a huge fan of the Predator franchise and I was like: "Oh. You wanna see him outside the suit?" Lol

I'd say it was like Ghostbusters style comedy ensemble cast with similar dramatic supernatural and sci fi elements adapted for tv with the A-team formula. And like ghostbusters and Buckaroo Banzai, it also has a lot of influences from the classic film serials of the 30's and 40's. I think that's alluded to directly with Iceman, a character who was frozen in the mid 30s and revived to be apart of the team. This was a really great show. I still have the VHS of the TV movie pilot. as far as I know that's the only thing that was ever released on video? unfortunately it got retooled by the network one too many times, and with all the changes made, the original intent of the show kind of got lost. I think shows that get retooled like that and morph into something bizarre are really interesting. The best example would be the way David Lynch's Twin Peaks went off the rails in season 2 because of the network retooling it repeatedly, with Lynch himself responding by attempting to personally sabotage the show. Another lesser known show that was retooled like "misfits of science" with multiple changes to the formula, cast, and tone of the writing is "The Good Guys" which was a great but short lived 80's throwback cop-show comedy starring Bradley Whitford. I really recommend that one.
Back when people cared because each gig was a step forward. Basil Poledouris composed the score for "RoboCop" after this. His name will live on for that.

Very sad what happened to Dean Paul Martin. Misfits of Science ran for 1 television season from the fall of 1985 - 1986. Dean Paul Martin was killed in a military aircraft accident the following year in 1987. Kevin Peter Hall would pass away in 1991 from pneumonia conplications due to AIDS, which he contracted from a blood transfusion he received due to a car accident he was in. Both of these guys were gone way before their time. May they both rest in peace.
Actors died Hayes actor died in a jet fighter crash, Kevin Peter Hall died because he needed a blood transfusion and they gave him hiv infected blood. Cox went on to better things Johnny b had a health issue the whole production was cursed
God, I miss the Misfits! I remember Johnny at the party at 4:14 telling Billy he had to "go." Billy thought he had to pee, but it was because there was so much static electricity in the area Johnny was about to burst. He ran behind a hedge and you saw a huge explosion right after that.
For me the intro was great but I also love the Captain Marvel and The Phoenix. But I'm still pissed about the fact that for all those great shows none of them ever reached a decent end. Thank You Loader.

I also remember that in the thing where he was hit by lightning that they were having to fight clowns from space or something about spooky clowns.
in the movie (and first episode) Johnny "Ray" Bukowski was struck by lightning during his last concert - when he still was a rockstar. Went through his entire equipment, blew everything up, should have killed him. Gave him lightning powers instead, as well as superspeed. But he has to live in a camper trailer in the middle of the desert because water shortcircuits him, literally setting his skin on fire. Let's be honest, most of the misfits have problems - Gloria Di Nallo (the Telekinetic) is probably the one with less: El always wanted to be smaller by a few inches - and now either he's basketball player sized or doll sized, and Biff (the Iceman, who sadly wasn't brought to the regular series) needs to be constantly refrigerated, or he dies, not to mention that decades of hybernation damaged his brain beyond repair, making him possibly the most powerful special needs person on Earth. The others, well, they're a mess too.
Great show, but had a terrible time slot on Friday, which led to low ratings. Back when people did stuff on Friday because that was payday and you did not want to be stuck in the house watching tv when you could be out having fun at the mall or the park with your buds. Heroes is the spiritual successor to this show as this was Tim Kring’s first writing gig.

What an underated gem of a show. And it's basically a "Code Lyoko" before "Code Lyoko" (and without the great CGI animation.)
