  • Today's video see's us cycling along part of the National Cycle Route 55. The route from Ford Green Hall to Brown Lee's is approximately 7 miles return journey. Ford Green Hall has a free car park to use (no public toilets) and is reasonably well kept. The route passes through Whitfield Valley Nature Reserve (old mining colliery) it has lots of different trails to follow (up and around the old slag heap). Lots of wildlife to see along the way, herons, ducks, geese, goats, finches of all kinds, horses, cows. There is a pub just around the corner from the junction/cross over the road in Brown Lees called Gardeners Arms (brown lees road) opening times 1500hrs (kitchen opens 1700hrs). No idea what's it like, but useful to know. This route carries on all the way to Congleton (Ford green-Congleton 20 miles return trip) and its a very well maintained route. Worth checking out for a decent traffic free cycle ride suitable for all levels of cyclists. One word of caution, look out for broken glass which sadly can always be found along the section that follows Ball Hayes Rd near to the green double gated bridge.
    Have fun & stay active.
    Much love D.

It will take you all the way into Congelton town centre (lovely town, plenty of quaint and querky cafes to choose from. The trail has a slight incline (manageable for all) on the way which is great in the way back! The terrain is a mixture of hard packed trail/ tarmac/fine gravel which makes it suitable for most bikes. Beautiful trail, plenty of greenery, wildlife to look at a long the way.
