After spending almost 25 minutes of anticipated waiting on the southbound major Shinkansen platforms, a 10-car E5 Series Shinkansen Set No. U1, which would operate as the Shinkansen "HAYABUSA" Superexpress No. 48 bound for Tokyo, arrived at Shin-hakodate-hokuto Station at exactly 6.22 p.m. on Track No. 11. Once all the train doors were opened, I boarded the train via Car No. 10, which was the Gran Class car, and directly settled down into my assigned Seat No. 4C for the really long early evening journey time of only 4 hours 24 minutes to the large hustle and bustle of downtown Tokyo via the undersea Seikan Tunnel.
The train was to run combined with the Shinkansen "KOMACHI" Superexpress No. 48 from Akita beyond Morioka until its final destination. After the local on-board clock struck exactly 6.50 p.m. sharp, all the doors were closed, and the Shinkansen "HAYABUSA" Superexpress No. 48 bound for Tokyo eventually departed from Shin-hakodate-hokuto Station for its main early evening trip of 4 hours 14 minutes to the ultra-modern and colossal hustle and bustle of downtown Tokyo. The train's departure was thus delayed by approximately ten minutes owing to the late arrival of a connecting major Hakodate Liner local train service from Hakodate.
