      Even highly intelligent people can just not care about school work - in fact the more intelligent they are the harder it is for them to care abotu standardized school work because it usually leaves them bored and unfulfilled, much as with Albert Einstein who did not do well with lower school at all.

      @JustAnotherPerson4U 3 года назад +8

      @Clart dem I'm going to be blunt with you. For many adults who slipped through school with undiagnosed medical conditions or disorders as children. School is a frequent source of past trauma that they carry with them because the pain hurt so badly. Because they knew inside thay they needed help but the school... didn't give it and/or were purposefully ignorant about it. And the knowlege doesn't wipe the pain of being made to feel like you were stupid or worthless or the fault always lay with you even though you know now that you literally couldn't help yourself at times.
      So, it's not something people can just get over. School can be incredibly traumatising to many undiagnosed children because a lot of systems they have are reminiscent of how they control prisoners. I'm not saying school is the same as prison but for students whose individual needs are not fulfilled and they are left to drag themselves through it, it very much can feel like one.

  • @farawayfrom
    @farawayfrom 3 года назад +290

    She was very well-spoken when talked to; it is easy to feel invisible when you are just one in a group, but actually having independent checks with a teacher would have made her feel cared for. I think it is slightly flippant to dismiss her as an attention seeker, as she is a young girl whose brain is still developing, and so has room to grow and develop her character. This is a difficult part of her life and a way of coping with the trauma of bullying seemed to develop into an eating disorder; that lack of food alone was probably responsible for her lack of focus in lessons, her anger and irritability and her tendency to isolate herself.
    Personally I think a classroom can feel very claustrophobic and the pressure of worrying what others in that room think of you is enough to make people really act out. I saw it a lot in class when I was at school; it was like a shield they put up when surrounded by 20 or so other pupils. The thing is, when you talked to those people one on one, they were the friendliest people. I think that is shown in this video, when the teachers talk to her, she is a quiet girl who has been through some horrific bullying, which has increased her fear of the people around her and so her 'shield' is much more apparent, hence her behaviour had become so erratic.

    When I was 15 my best friend at the time would always misbehave in class. She would yell at teachers, swear in class all the time, ditch classes and skip detentions. Our drama teacher once sat her down and asked her why she was always so disruptive, she responded "because I hate it here" so he asked her how he could make it better for her. For the rest of the term, her behaviour improved over the months she had made a special bond with our teacher. The following year our teacher ended up leaving the school and her behaviour went back to bad and she dropped out 2 months later.
    This just goes to show how when teachers put in effort to help some students rather than punish them all the time, a difference can be made. My friend never went to college or got a higher education, she's currently working at a fast food chain and still lives with her parents. Not to say that this is a bad life, but I know this is the result of her earlier teen years.

All you need is one teacher to question the underlying problems. I was put on a positive version of a report in school which only allowed teachers to write positive things. That boosted my confidence.

    The head mistress of the school is awesome. The way she’s so open-minded to the students there is amazing, that’s uncommon these days, it’s like you do something stupid and you stuffed your school life up. I think Emily needed someone open-minded and genuine to her, she seems like such a nice girl but doesn’t know how to pursue it, something at home might’ve happened and so she misbehaves to distract herself, I was exactly like that. I completely understand her. There needs to be more principals and mistresses of the schools like the head mistress. 💗
