Norm is known for his detailed work.
😂😂
#cheesesandwiches
I laughed like a genuine phyco
Norm is the type of guy to actually have the cheese sandwiches in the creepiest van you've ever seen.
RIP Gone far too early.
Hahaha
This joke is like music for me. I listen to it almost every day.
Never gets old
Whose feeding the hogs!
Norm was a master of telling a 30 second joke in about 9 minutes.
on point lol
the moth joke is literally 4 lines - he made it a 10 minute masterpiece
@@slightlySuperior that's exactly what this is. He dragged a 30-second joke about serial killers not digging a deep enough grave into 12 minutes.
Somehow this joke ran 17 minutes, the last 11 without me.
Colin Quinn gave him that moth joke he told, it was supposed to be about 20 seconds long, and he stretched it out for so long they were supposed to do a commercial break, but kept going til he finally finished.
“somehow, through sheer tyranny of will” is one of the greatest “pay close attention or you’ll miss it” bits of beautiful wordplay I’ve ever heard in a stand up bit. Norm was incredible.
And I’ll bet that was ad lib. Like his old bit about his Dad catching hom smoking behind the garage. “…..and my Dad’s head appeared, his big head appeared round the corner..,” then he hears himself say that realising the specificity of his Dad’s singular head, and he ad libs “…..followed by his body as it often would..”. Same as the “sheer tyranny of will”. Thought up on the spot and amused himself.
"no river long enought not to contain a bend" is right behind it
@@tempsitch5632 I don’t remember that. Too funny!
@@randall-king It’s super old. I actually got into Norm in the late 80’s when I would do homework to comedy on the radio. The bit is about his Dad catching him smoking cigarettes. So his Dad makes him smoke a huge cigar right til the end. “…and that’s when I started smoking cigars real heavy”.
Look up his first special or any of his first good 5 mins appearances. “Them’s mean streets for a weiner dog in a cardigan”. The old stuff was great too.
@@tempsitch5632 I'll bet it wasn't.
"Oh fuck not the woods. Nothing good ever happens in the woods." - Norm you magnificent bastard.
"Which is fine nowadays" kills me. It's the best part of this whole deal.
Along with his 'ridiculous three color ball' comment shortly thereafter. This man could *write and deliver* a joke like few others.
I can just imagine Norm sitting at home thinking how he'd like to make a joke about the wnba ridiculous 3-color ball, and then writing this giant serial killer saga as a vehicle.
"Do that thing that makes me feel like God" is such a dark and hilarious line. I miss Normie
my favorite line in the entire 12 min.
I laughed so hard at that I part had to pause the vid.
"You don't have to have cheese sandwiches in the van..." 😂😂😂
Unless you want to be known for your detailed work
Normie tricked people by playing the dumb guy. The whole time he was setting us up for the laughter/slaughter with his ridonkulous punchlines. I loved everything about this man and miss his humor every day.
When you swivel your head around, the person you'd most want to see in your eyeline would be Janice.
The joke starts so innocent and gets dark as it goes. It is great
I love that the final 30 seconds or so is just insanely disturbing and real.
Knowing that norm had been battling with bowle cancer for about ten years while he was telling this joke, it brings new meaning to him saying don’t try hope, it never works out.
"I know there's no river long doesn't contain a bend but i don't believe...." This should be a fun reaction😂😂😂
😂 also moth joke seems to be back up!
Ooh sick thanks for letting me know 🙏🙏
“Could just be vanity… but I don’t think…”
@@MaddyReactionswatch NORM LOSES HIS SPONSORS
@@MaddyReactions Yes!..The moth joke!!
After Norm's death...that little part about "Hope" hits different. Makes you wonder if that was him venting a little about his cancer.
I think "Me Doing Standup" was a year before his diagnosis. But he was very cynical already and he already had a stomach cancer battle back in the 80's.
I always liked how he accused people who didn't understand why someone would commit suicide of living in a cotton candy house.
@@MintyFreshTurds is right. This came out 1-2 years before his multiple myeloma diagnosis. I think the much simpler fact has to be that Norm was always a far more sensitive guy than a lot of people would expect.
Like… He lost his job doing Weekend Update because he wouldn’t stop raking OJ over the coals. That’s not the kind of thing you do because you know it’ll get a cheap laugh. I expect Norm was genuinely rankled and disgusted at how many people had their blinders up over his obvious guilt, just because OJ was famous.
Toss up between Norm’s great sense of humour and Maddy’s awesome smile.
Norm was the anchor for Saturday night live weekend update for a long time. That's why they clapped for the news
You know, even though I don’t those things are actually related, I really like believing that they are.
The whole punchline is the ‘very deep grave’ vs the earlier observation of shallow grave lol
norm killed janice
@@slipknotsberryfarm jasonblam killed the joke.
Norm was a very unique comedian 😄👏👏 his view of the world 😂😂
R.I.P. too a Great Legend 😢💔
Damn
I have watched more reactions to this than I can count
I think you are the first person to really make a point to comment on how accurate it really is
Respect
Norm was a genius disguised as just another comedian.
I wouldn't call him a genius. He was just a very bright unconformist. I think he found it hilarious that people bow before the alter of "politically correctness", and couldn't help himself from messing with that.
In the world of blind people the one-eyed man is king!
@NameGoesHere21 So he was good at math. I had a friend like that who was good at math. He was so good he was helping the teachers. He was good at computers also. But apart from that he was not very adept. Had emotional problems and poor social skills. Was afraid to drive his car in the center of the city, when thousands of lesser intelligent cab drivers had no problem.
All joking aside, Maddy's got a smile that would light up a room. 😊 BTW Maddy: I've got a van...it's right over there...full of cheese sandwiches. 😉
damn, very nice lol
Hey!! Stop stealing my moves.
I don’t eat cheese, guys 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hey Steven I like cheese sandwiches.
now you’re thinking like Albert Fish
Something about the combination of norm and a cute girl laughing. It just felt like a warm hug.
Yes! Been looking forward to this. Enjoy. RIP Normie
Norm is a genius. He acts ilke he's the dumbest person in the room but is often the smartest. He nearly won a million dollars on "Who Wants to be a MIllionaire," which would be a good video to react to as well.
Yeah, I saw that & happen to believe that Regis deliberately misled him into choosing not to "take the risk" knowing he had the right answer. Just my opinion though. Just like that movie "Slumdog Millionaire," & much of what is supposed to be "reality" T.V. or other various game shows or contests, & even sporting events. They are scripted, highly produced, fixed, & staged.
Norm got the question right about the Broadway Musical. That was the first clue he was deeply closeted.
I agree, and what makes him the smartest person in the room is that he is not a hypocrite. Hypocrisy stumps the mind and makes fools out of adult people. And he is not afraid to make uncomfortable jokes, messing with peoples conformity. These skills makes him see right through the bullshit others kneel to.
Norm Macdonald, he was very funny .His SNL work was also wonderful. He was never PC. RIP Norm! Thanks Maddy!!
Good choice.
His routine on “Alcoholism”, is another must react to video.
Ooooh
Agreed
Pride parade in San Fran is a killer too....
@@nickrizzi4927 My son, we're so proud of him..... Can't get enough cock.
The moth joke on Conan is excellent, also the professor of logic joke, and there are montages of his jokes from when he was the news anchor on SNL
Definitely the moth joke. Classic. All the more impressive because although the core of the joke isn't his and is very simple, his very long version was made up on the spot to fill a segment on the show that he wasn't expecting.
the names he came up with lol@@MarkMcLT
U.S...Norm's dark humor was what made me a fan when I first saw his stand up in the 1980s
I love your reaction to this Maddy. Norm is an absolute genius and yet makes his jokes sound so dumb! 😂 They're so stupid and then he explains them which has me crying with laughter more than the actual joke itself. 😂
I just love this channel because Maddy has the best smile. I really don’t care about much else. She’s just so darn cute.
I've loved Norm since the early days of his career, and it's always great to see more people introduced to his comedy. The guy was one of a kind.
It's hilarious how he goes into all that stupid detail, just to make the point that'd he'd dig a deeper hole. 🤣
I love it 🤣
Norm is such a funny guy. even his interviews are great
Be careful of the man with a van offering cheese sandwiches. 😂
One of the greatest stories/jokes ever told. Norm elicits about 100 laughs out of a 12 minute segment. A 12 minute joke pretty much based on the simple phrase 'a shallow grave.'
He is so matter-of-fact about it all. It kills me every time
"I guess I'll go home and await the authorities..." Classic.
"I know there is no river long enough that doesn't contain a bend..." Classic.
Gotta be the funniest damn bit EVER!..Every time I hear I almost die from lack of oxygen!..Lol!!
😂😂😂
Norm contrasting the unfortune of a woman disappearing vs his own prospect of not meeting Janice with "just my luck" is crazy
What I find most awesome about Norm's kraft is how he takes your hand and drags you into the heart of darkness while making you crack with laughter. The efing Mozart of comedy. No one close
Uncle Terry's Joke is another good example of this
I lived in LA years ago and one Saturday night a friend and I decided to randomly go a comedy club. I think it was the Laugh Factory. It turned out that David Spade and Norm were there unannounced. Spade was ok but Norm had me laughing so hard I was literally crying.
Who doesn’t love Maddy? This girl is a top model! Even with her dorky glasses. She knows she is a bombshell!
Richard Pryor, George Carlin, Robin Williams, Eddie Murphy, Ricky Gervais, Red Fox etc.. comedy is abundant and lifts the heaviness of the world
Norm wants to make you laugh at something dark, and then drag your face through the subject like a dog who pooped in the house.
"An area most known for its remoteness " f!ing Einstein this guy
He was a genius.
That's how they ID the perp in the line up: he's the one holding a bag with a cheese sandwich.
The real genius of that joke is that he gets to the most fucked up dark part that makes you drop your jaw and then quickly ends the joke with the dumbest punchline right away. Haha what a god damn genius.
Norm Macdonald is the greatest
The greatest 12 minutes in comedy history
"Nightcrawler" is the film you're thinking of.
And "provocation" is the word you're trying to conjugate.
I need to learn to scuba dive because I had no oxygen for 12 twelve minutes due to laughing so dang hard.
Norm was probably one of the best comedians I've ever seen and I'm 60+. Good luck. Watching the news gives people high blood pressure even people who work out and eat right
Funniest part of the news is when they switch to the guy outside and the delay takes forever.
I have another tip for anyone who's interested. Don't just bury the body in a very deep grave. Also bury a dead animal in the same grave just below the surface. When the search dogs find the grave, everyone will just think it's an animal grave and no one will dig any deeper to find the actual body.
Dont even get me started on the murder shows and the "light up the room" thing. Its so bad, every time they say it my wife cracks up now.
I think they’re clapping the Subject that Norm has picked to speak about.
“Provocation”, I believe, is the word you were looking for ☺️
the video cuts before the actual end of the bit, he says most of his preparation would be digging the grave he would start on the grave years before he actually chose a victim, that really seems to be the most crucial part of the whole thing, and then says “enough of this grimness”
This joke always makes me hungry for a cheese sandwich.
I never really thought Norm was funny on SNL.
However, on talk shows and on stage, he's hysterical! 😂
I start laughing every time he starts talking about those damn cheese sandwiches. 😂
🤣🤣🤣
Great reaction as always...spot on...and Norm, my all time fave...a genius
"Provocation" is the word you're thinking of.
Great! Thanks!
"Emotional Provocation" and YES! You're 100% right. A form of manipulation.
That was norm. This is all constructed about the “shallow Grave” that they always describe on the news but then built a 12 minute journey through details that are just window dressing around the shallow grave joke. The longer his jokes are and the longer the journey the more entertained I am because you know it’s always a set up for the simplest punch line. He was a master
I know that you didn't mean to imply otherwise, but I'll just add to the perspective this: If you can't joke about dark stuff, you're left with toothless, unchallenging banana peel satire where everybody just laughs at the same ol' schtick. "Oh look! The silly guy fell over the silly banana peel in a silly way once again! HAHAHA! That gets me every time!" Fart jokes.
The difference here is that on top of being funny, it becomes actually interesting as well! And THAT is what quality comedy is. The ability to keep two parallel mindsets going at once: One is the emotional and horrific substance of the story he's imagining, and the other is the practical, matter-of-fact way of proving serial killers to be too stupid for even their own chosen craft 🙂
Rest in peace Norm. Gone, but never forgotten.
Maddy, Norm really got into the public eye by anchoring SNL’s weekend update. So, when he says “news” the audience gets kinda excited.
Little known fact- the term “fake news” was first said by Norm.
I just finished explaining to my wife why I was laughing hysterically after a local newscast threw it to a reporter in front of the woods to tell us that a missing woman’s body had been found.
She wasn’t amused. 🤷♂️
😂😂😂
In my experience American audiences will clap for anything, anything at all 👏 😂 Love from UK 🇬🇧 🇺🇸
This isn't a 12 minute joke. It's a 12 minute "bit" with lots of smaller joke interspersed throughout.
Elevate your level of comedy my guy. It starts with watching the news and ends with what Norm would do if said news told him about finding Janice in a shallow grave.
I can't believe you made me explain to the folks at home how jokes work.
I first listened to this joke about 10 years ago, and the Janice I pictured in my head looked exactly like this girl.
😂
Provocation: either strong encouragement or a vacation in one of Utah's largest cities.
Provocation! Is the word you were looking for! 😂😂😂😂
Yessss!!
Brilliant stuff Maddy😂👍 The movie you were thinking of was The Nightcrawler btw
There's a lot more dark humour stuff i plan on requesting so brace yourself😂😂😂
OHHHH!!
Hey Maddy, I can get us a bottle.
Jack Johnson the surfer dude? :)
man that just brought back an whole album of flashbacks, me and my friends used to love his music for a great summer vibe ❤
'Rodeo Clowns' always was my favourite
Hi Maddy. You seem like such a good egg and Norm blessed us so much that I feel it my duty to give you context for him so you can fully appreciate him. If you've only ever seen this bit of his and worse, if you take what he says literally; you'll very much come away with a wrong understanding of him and his comedy. For example, in an interview once, someone asked him what quality he most valued and wished he showed more of and he said, kindness. If you see more of his work, you'll come to see that. Some of his jokes come off as cruel, but the intent is 100% to just be funny and not to hurt others.
There are a LOT of facets to his comedy that are brilliant and you actually hit on one of them at 6:38 when you said, "This is hilarious that he's dissecting this..." One of the brilliant things Norm does is take an idea or an experience that we all just take for granted and maybe even take for truth, and deconstruct it so completely, down to its most basic components that the ridiculousness of it is laid bare for all to see.
Another thing he's a master at is, as you said, storytelling. Even though it LOOKS like he's stumbling along through the story, he knows exactly where he's taking it. The story that takes you there has lots of little punchlines or funny things, but the big one is at the end. However, because he took you on this really long journey, he has distracted you from where it's going to land, so that when it does, it takes you by surprise. In this case, he early on talks about how these supposed evil geniuses seem to always bury their victims in shallow graves. At the end, as a counterpoint to that, he hits you with how he would bury them in a very, very, VERY deep grave. What's funny is NOT the theme! Norm would recoil at the thought of someone that harbored such darkness in their soul. What's funny is the surprise ending!
This brings me to another brilliance of his. Norm doesn't encourage this kind of evil, nor is he trying to give anyone a template at how to succeed at it. Once again, the theme is not what is funny about his humor. What is funny is how ridiculously ABSURD the theme is, or that Norm would talk about it so nonchalantly. It is the ridiculous absurdity that is at the center of what's funny here.
Lastly, not that this is the only other great quality of Norm's but one I really enjoy, is that he plays the "every man" and even pretends like he's almost a simpleton. He's anything but. I've heard many people say that he voraciously read Russian literature and that he was a mathematical genius. He has always seemed to me to come off as unassuming.
To get a full understanding of Norm, I would encourage you to think of the person you know in your personal life that shows others love and kindness more than anyone else you know. Now imagine that person telling this story. With your friend or family member, that you're thinking of you have the advantage, however, of knowing them well enough to know that they would never ever condone the behavior talked about in this story. You know them so well, that you would know that the only intent is to tell something so absurd, and to tell it well enough that the story hides the punchline until you hear it at the end, and finally, that they are about deconstructing accepted concepts in order to expose them... but in a funny way, with the end result that the only intent is just to make others laugh at the ridiculous things around us. That's Norm to a 'T'. As much as he makes me laugh, knowing his mischievousness and his kindness, he makes me smile.
Great breakdown
Fevered dreams of Janice in bangs
like David Spade's fevered nightmare of cocks
The seven minute Dirty Johnny joke is hilarious.
I have to add, Maddy is so cute!
The movie with Jake Gyllenhaal is 'Nightcrawler' i believe, it was crazy but a good one.
Norm was a unique guy but hilarious, comedic gold stuff
just watch a ton of Norm! what a legend so funny
the "very, very deep grave is subtly funny because almost always they will report the body was found in a shallow grave...Norm was one of a kind.
Thank you Maddy!
Norm does the polar opposite of one liners.
Norm was one was the comedian that made other comedians laugh. A truly talented and funny man.
"It's just make believe
You can't believe everything you see
So baby, close your eyes to the lullabies
On the news tonight"
Thanks for putting this song back in my head :)
He is a master of delivery.
Love the reaction ❤
Only Norm could pull this joke off.
the actual punch line for the overall of the story was Norm actually knowing Janice and it was him who did her off or put her in the woods ... I think this is his Darkest bit ever ... not surprising, at this time he was fighting cancer (since 2012), he never told anyone (until he was on his death bed) and he kept on working.
Very very VERY deep grave. The difference between ordinary and extraordinary, is just that little extra!
I love the raising of your eyebrows when he mentions ‘fake news’ your so base! Its great! You love Bill Burr, UFC, you have a well rounded music taste. I’m detecting a bit of a conspiracy theorist in there too! You must have some bad qualities…..??
Norm's funny. When he leads Conan on for several minutes, it's hilarious. But my favorite if Norm's Biil Cosby hypocrisy joke.
It's all about his delivery!!
Lol I will never hear the name Janice and NOT immediately think of Norm
“She’s better then all of us!”
Most comedians say funny things; Norm said things funny.
"even in today's enlightened society, there remains a stigma to be a um.. psychosexual sadist" fucking killllllled me
😂
