  • FILM FUNDRAISER: www.gofundme.c.... Please help us to continue transferring these rare 16mm film reels that cost us anywhere from $275 to $350 per reel depending on the size of the film reel. We use Yale Film and Video in Valencia, CA to transfer our footage. Ironically, Yale Video is that same company that shot this footage over 5-decades ago. With nearly 1000 16mm film reels in our collection from 1969 to 1973, it's imperative that we get as much financial help as possible to continue posting newly transferred content on the Tommy Hawkins RUclips channel.
Any amount donated would be greatly appreciated! We thank you in advance for your support!

Thank you for this Tommy Hawkins, I remember watching this broadcast early on a Sunday morning approximately about 3:00 A.M. back in Providence R.I. I was a staunch P.C. Friar fan at the ripe old age of 10 years old at the time. While I was heartbroken that the Providence College Friars fell apart in the 2nd half it was a noble attempt in an away game against the unbeatable UCLA Bruins that was a masterpiece of fundamental basketball technique. What was even more devastating to me was their loss in the final four to Memphis State in 1973. They were blowing Memphis State off the court in the 1st half, early in the second half their center the great Marvin Barnes comes down from a rebound and twists his knee. Marvin left the game and without the nation's leading rebounder their 20 point lead dwindled down to where they could not recover and were eliminated that day from the final four. Memphis state went on to face UCLA where Bill Walton had the best game of his collegiate career and saw UCLA win the NCAA Championship again. It would have been interesting to see what would have happened had Marvin Barnes not twisted his knee in the 2nd half of the Memphis State Game. Could the momentum of thrashing Memphis State have given the P.C. Friars the juice they needed to beat UCLA we will never know. I just want to Thank You Tommy for allowing me to be a 10 year old boy again in Providence R.I. for 17 Minutes and 54 Seconds. Regards Mikey Capp

Interesting hearing particular fans shout. It's like I'm at the game. And they love Ernie D'Gregorio's moves. Ernie D gained some new fans in L.A.

I'm not sure if I have it. All the film footage you see on the Hawkins channel was retrieved from the dumpster over 5-decades ago by Tommy Hawkins after NBC trashed them. Tommy saw historical value in the footage and got permission from NBC's GM that he could keep whatever he dug out the trash bin.. More than likely, the second half of this game is lost forever... Ok , Thanks again , I remember this game and was looking for the score on the East coast the following day. I was disappointed that the score got out of hand , but was told it was close till late in the game .Barnes was not afraid of Walton , like so many other pretty good centers . Providence had weapons and Ernie D. was going to break any press thrown at him. I so wish this would have been the Title Game in '73. Memphis was not going to beat the Bruins . Any chance you have the UCLA vs Villanova Game in 1971 ? That was the Howard Porter vs Sidney Wicks matchup. I aaprciate thae work tha you did to get this out - Thanks again @@TommyHawkinsFilmCollection
