- On Monday, February 13, 1905, eight- year-old Kenneth Beasley walked to the back of his school’s playground and into the melting snow of the woods beyond. He never returned. A massive search was undertaken for the North Carolina state senator’s son, and a reward was offered. Despite clues, rumors and even a ransom note, he was never found.
A year and a half later, a political rival hurriedly was charged. Accused of the most bizarre and twisted of plots, he faced a courtroom overflowing with jurors, star lawyers, spectators and newspaper reporters. The eventual verdict and stunning aftermath would rip apart two families and shock a state ... yet leave a mystery unsolved.
My guest is former criminal defense attorney Charles Oldham, author of "THE SENATORS SON: The Shocking Disappearance, The Celebrated Trial, and The Mystery That Remains A Century Later."

The reason your podcast is so good is you allow the author to tell the story with a mininum of interjection. When you do interject something it's on point.
Thank you!
It's so interesting that he remembered this story since childhood and decided to research this.
So interesting and so sad!! Thank you! Love your channel
I love your videos ❤
Very sad but intriguing case - poor little boy RIP. They say the apple don't fall far from the tree - perhaps kidnapper pappa did a deal with his teacher daughter - or owed her money too - and the plan was completed as this writer surmises. Lidr scanning the area might yet shed light on the wee boy's final resting place. Great interview :)
I was looking for the interview with Edward Stow but it seems you have deleted it?
Nope, it's there. ruclips.net/video/WLgVzDi5CkM/видео.html
So Harrison had it out for Beasley, waited in the woods for Beasley's son and that very boy decided to go deep in the woods by himself just at that time? Does that sound reasonable?
Yes, the big question is was Harrison's daughter, the teacher, complicit in some way. Did she say something to Kenneth that led him to linger outside after recess was over? Was she, at least initially, in cahoots with her father?
