    I just found a Mojomojo at a shop in Central New York for $50. I thought it was used, but the gentleman behind the counter said "I'll be right back with the box." 😳 Whaa? I didn't know they were so affordable. It functions as a clean boost, EQ, transparent OD, and distortion!

    • @jamessouleyrette3370
      @jamessouleyrette3370 8 лет назад +3

      +Escalator not if you're talking about a dirty amp, if you've got an amp that's already gnarly, klon type pedals can actually push them to be louder instead of just adding compression and flub. Not dissing the mojomojo, it's a nice pedal, and for the price it's amazing, but looking at a klon or klone simply for the drive sound is missing the point of what actually makes it special.

    • @escalator9734
      @escalator9734 8 лет назад +1

      james souleyrette When you say "push them to be louder" is it just volume out of the speakers ? if it's just that, a boost in an effect loop does it. I never tried a klon so I don't know exactly what you mean

    Klon is what started the "boutique" scene and the epoxy inside made it "boutique mystique". Plus every single one of them was built by hand with rare parts, where the mojo is assembly line with pre built circuit boards from China. That's the 2k difference I suppose. There's so many pedals in the $50-100 range that can sound just as good. If you was to do a blind test, it would be interesting but not many would probably tell the difference. It's more of a "looky what I got" kinda thing if ya ask me

    Just as a side note, for anyone not liking the way the MojoMojo sounds, put the treble all the way up and put the bass to about 3 o'clock or all the way up, set the gain at about 10 o'clock and put the level anywhere you like (I keep it at about 12 o'clock).
    I find it completely loses it's bite when you set the EQ's low. You need them all the way up! That's what the Klon does, boosts the high and low frequencies... Then use the gain as a kind of mixer between your guitars clean signal and the dirt of the pedal. If you really want that Klon sound for under a grand, go and buy a J.RAD Archer, they're very reasonably priced IMHO. But ya, the MojoMojo sounds amazing.

    • @endlessfrogs2972
      @endlessfrogs2972 4 года назад

      Paul uses it as a boost to further his already cranked amp to avoid shrillness of his notes. If you boost the bass on the mojo mojo and used it as a stand alone overdrive like being demoed here, it will sound quite muddy almost like it does not have treble. I have one (Mojo mojo). I have tried your idea.

Heck, he has used his PG14 in front of the Mojomojo to crank it further. So yeah. Be sure you know what is being discussed before you comment. Not a surprise the TC is far superior. I have a TC dark matter, same thing. TC increases the internal voltage on both of their pedals 3-4 times which gives them much more headroom. The increased dynamics make it sound much more open, like a real tube. All other pedals have that flat over compressed thing happening. Totally independent of tone, it gives the feel of a tube. Tone U can change with EQ'ing not dynamics. The dark matter may be going out of production, too bad, not sure about Mojo-Mojo.

The gold face Klon is a bit more present and *just* a smidge more alive/saturated in between the lines but for an average price difference of $2,300? No. My only knock is I wish they'd have put the voice switch in the center between the knobs so as to allow room for those mxr style, idk, bumpers on the knobs you want to control then with your foot. You can fit one on the bass knob, which can very useful on the mojo but I'd loved to have been able to fit one one the drive knob.

    if you can make the Mojo sound like a Klon , then you can make any pedal sound like any other...

    Apples vs oranges imo. Both sound good but mojomojo loses with its more limited headroom.

    I had a Klondike back in the day when they first started showing up on the forums. I played with it for a few months and sold it for not much more than I payed for it. I wish I’d known the hype this pedal was going to generate. I’d have scalped that bitch for a ton of dough..... but I didn’t.

    That was a piss poor shootout. Notice how they don't even dial in thre Klon. Those Klon are beast. I own both and Klon is far more superior sounding

    As in the Mojo Mojo is actually more transparent than the Klon and Thousands less. Go figure

    I love all tc products and own quite a few but my dark matter and mojomojo were too muddy. Plus the mojomojo didnt delivere any boost when you turn the volume. Was bummed about it.

      in my rig (telecaster/blues deluxe) mojomojo works pretty good...the treble knob is almost all the way up, other way is to dark, but delivers the sound that i want and like...

    • @kosmicwizard

      Funny how people expect pedals to sound perfect with the knobs at noon, you know you can move the knob to add more treble and bass, right?

    • @DarkVelizar
      @DarkVelizar 4 года назад

      @@kosmicwizard it has nothing to do with the tone knobs. It just sounded muddy and the solo gets lost in the frequency. For riffing the pedal is great

    • @kosmicwizard
      @kosmicwizard 4 года назад

      @@DarkVelizar I know what you mean, Big Muffs do this as well. I never tried to use it as a solo boost. Guess you have to use a boost pedal for a solo boost?

    Who the hell would be stupid enough to spend $2500 on a F-ing pedal?
    Let's see $50.00 vs $2500 (on sale)?
    I'll spend my $2500 on a point to point hand built Marshall 1974x.
    If I had $5 million in the bank I still wouldn't buy that pedal!!!

      bluesman1063 I think people that spend that money on the klon already have a vintage marshall and a collection of cool guitars.

      It’ll be worth more later. No different from buying a real 59 Les Paul or 62 Strat. Those things will continue to appreciate. People buy Bentleys and people buy Hondas. “Pride of ownership” and “exclusivity” are _things._

    Thanks for the comparison!do you get lots of noise with the mojo mojo when you put the gain and level up?

    • @AlexRamosDrTaz
      @AlexRamosDrTaz 6 лет назад

      Ser chromo you can, but it's tolerable, unless you're using a noisy power source. At that point, I'm probably using it as an overdrive, and not as a primary tone.

    Klon has more treble than the TC without losing the bottom end. He is using a Vox AC30 with twin Alnico Blues so what this says to me is the Klon is far more for mids and highs and the TC is lower end doesnt get the highs. I have a J Rockett Archer and I have to say, if you do not use a compressor with it the sound you get is boost but the grit is dependent on the amp settings. I use it into a Laney IRT studio and a Fender GB hotrod. The Archer or Icon is more like the Klon, but hearing the Wampler Tumnus which I think sounds better than the Klon
