    Lyrics:
    Thirteen cultists
    Held a secret meeting,
    Bringing powers of the darkness
    Upon those who opposed them.
    The cheif of the circle,
    Known as Malchius
    drank the blood of a young baby
    Offered unto him.
    They danced ecstatically,
    The orgied frantically.
    The demon had arisen
    From the circle on the floor.
    The chanting was much louder
    And more piercing than before.
    They are seven.
    They are seven.
    Seven are they.
    Out of the abyss they rise,
    When day sinks into darkness.
    Seven are they.
    Coven in charing cross...
    Coven in charing cross...
    Soon, a certain family
    Living in the village,
    Would die one by one by
    The curse of the cult.
    The head of the family,
    A witchhunter named Mead,
    had burned their leadser at the stake;
    Soon he'd regret his deed.
    Pain from Devil's we evoke!
    Thirst and suffer til he'd choked.
    The magic did take over
    And the soul did feel the roar.
    Incantations were much louder
    And more piercing than before.
    Born in the bowels of the hills
    Evil ones, sources of ills.
    Setters of unseen snares,
    Death to all pity, all prayers.
    Male they are not.
    Female they are not.
    No wives have they known.
    No children begot.
    The fiends they are seven,
    Disturbers of heaven.
    They are seven.
    They are seven.
    Seven they are.
    Coven in charing cross...
    Coven in charing cross...

    This is beautiful. Coven are our best band. I wish they'd kept on recording throughout the later 70s, but they were probably meant for that shadowy period where psychedelia and progressive experimentation pushed music into a lovely abyss of under the earth pleasure. I would also recommend Genesis the American Band also on Mercury- they were similar. You may also want to look into fellow Chi Town occult alumni H.P Lovecraft. So much hope at that time. So much.. People lived so many dreams. They were free, happy, and now I'm someone who is sent to spread the word of Lucifer by bringing gifts to fellow sinners. Hell, I'm gonna go to Churches and give them the sign of the Horns. Love to all things Luciferian. Ben.

    @covenmusicvault Thanks for letting me know. The John Birch Publication, "American Opinion", had a picture of the Coven album along with a comment describing how Rock and Roll is being used to subvert the youth of America. I'll retrack my steps and locate that issue of American Opinion. It's been about 40 years since I last saw it and I appreciate your correction.

    Ended up on the wiki page for 'satanism'.
    Then ended up here. I didn't expect it to sound like this.
    This was banned at the time. Just shows how hysterical everyone was during the satanic panic
    Also - for all the occult ritualistic shit they shoehorned in, it's weird to note that the majority of the album was written by a songwriter-for-hire who was simply given a box of occult-y books and told to read them and write a bunch of songs about the content overnight (which he did).
    So a large portion of this isn't even their own ideas. Lol

    @covenmusicvault :- Please correct me if I am wrong, but I thought that Mercury Records released WITCHCRAFT COVEN: DESTROYS MINDS / REAPS SOULS in the year of 1968. The John Birch Society periodical called: AMERICAN OPINION had a picture of this record album when they had an article on Satanism (1968 issue). Thank you very much.

    • @countveles
      @countveles 6 лет назад +2

      Adepts doesn't reveal what passes inside the rituals and circles, but yet, you can find so much information on the internet. The lyrics doesn't reveal the very secrets of occultism, but promote its wondrous nature.

    • @HarvesterOfEyes91
      @HarvesterOfEyes91 6 лет назад +5

      Vlad Tepes you're kidding yourself if you dont think satanism is displayed in a negative light here. The very title and image of this album screams of shock value. Unfortunately for the band, if they were indeed aiming to be devil worshippers, this is not how it works, at least not in the grander sense.

    • @countveles
      @countveles 6 лет назад +6

      Indeed it doesn't work like that. They are representing satanism in artistic/poetic way here. This is not a "how to" manual of witchcraft.

    • @countveles
      @countveles 6 лет назад +1

      But I don't really think I understand your point on this comment...

    • @HarvesterOfEyes91
      @HarvesterOfEyes91 6 лет назад +1

      Vlad Tepes I agree this is meant to be artistic and a form of expression but my point is this and tons of other music labelled as satanic is hardly satanic if you think about it. Except when they contain real spells, it certainly does have an effect. Otherwise, the very purpose of occult (hidden knowledge) and mysticism is defeated.
