Hello Mike, I just wanted to thank you from the depth of my soul for your videos. I have been attending my college for 6 months for this sort of work and have learned more from the few of your videos I have watched today than my entire 6 months at school. I almost feel as though my tuition payment should go to you. Kudos to you and keep up the good work. Sincerely, Shelton.
I've been following you since I first saw your tutorials, great stuff, Mike. I found your version of the screw threads at the top interesting. The way I best figured it out was to place several edge loops, place a twist modifier- adjusting for proper placement- then select every other edge and extrude or scale. This way it stays as a part of the main geometry. Just my 2 cents. Thanks again for the great tuts.
@Mike Hermes I know this is an old post. I was wondering how one could go about adding a logo on the glass, so it looks like it's a part of the glass. Like a Mason jar? Would the logo get plugged into the transmission color in Arnold? Or could I just use a Normal map maybe? thank you.
Looking forward to trying this tutorial. I see on Sketchfab that other people have modelled and uploaded glass jars, would a model like the one in this video be viewable with as clearly defined, uv mapped glass if uploaded to Sketchfab? Only asking because 1) I'm a noob 2) Haven't clearly defined whether render windows show how the models look if exported to other viewing software/platforms. Thanks
Hi Mr. Hermes, I noticed there was a bit of noise on the interior of the lid? I have found, with some of my keyshot animations as well as renders, that this happens from time to time. What is the cause? I thought, at first that it was due to the way in which I created the UV's in maya but on things such as a roman sword and a bust that I created if I adjust the material or add a different material in keyshot the noise disappears. What is the root cause? I only ask so that I have a general idea and can speed up my workflow a bit. Thanks so much for your videos they are great!
Mr. Hermes, I see. I suppose I will have to try adjusting the lighting from the environment tab instead of trying to find another material. Thanks for the quick feedback! I look forward to future tutorials really helpful to the aspiring modelers / animators out there 😊
Erik, You can use many many programs to texture ( photoshop, Quixel,Mudbox etc etc . Keyshot is just one of them. I use it as it gives very realistic results
Hello Mike, I want to start a unity 3d game and wanted a base 3d crate asset that can be broken. Can you do a tutorial on creating a shattering crate animation or know the proper term to search for a source.
Great tutorial but when ever i try to import the file to keyshot it shows error ,says doesn't contain 3d geometry and i may need to export polygonal data from my modeling software. Can you help me with this?
Hi Mike Hermes I have a question not about the video you have created I have a scene and a character it's how I want it on frame 1 but as I come of frame 1 the figure twists up could you tell me what I 've done or am doing wrong please with thanks Dave
Hello Mike, I just watched this tutorial and it is very good. I am a beginning 3d modeler and an Animation Student. I have a quick question for you. so lets say after you render your model in Key shot and re-export it back to Autodesk Maya maintain the assigned material example the glass material for the glass jar. Please let me know. Thank u
@@MHTutorials3D Hi Mike, checked out keyshot, but too expensive at the moment. Your tutorials are very usefull and a blessing for every student but when you start using different software in a tutorial it gets really hard. Thanks anyway for your time.
Would it be possible for you to do this as well as uv and texture it in maya? This is a great tutorial but I've never used keyshot l only use maya mud box and zbrush.
What type of export would you suggest from Keyshot6 in order to bring the object into After Effects? I want to track the 3D object into live action video sequence.
Wow, so after long searching and doing what not after 3 days straight thinking that my computer was at fault or that the software was at fault you don't just RIGHT click and get the menu, you hold down the right click AND drag the mouse a bit to get the menu! Oh btw, It'd be really helpful if you get transcripts to your videos. It'll be must easier to follow along with and/or get a program to show the key presses. Thanks!
sorry. I hit wrong key. Can you help me to get back my extrude manipulator. I lost my document folder. Is not the first time . The only way I can get both back by refreshing my laptop then I loose MAYA.
I have Animation for Production classes and we have 4 hours to do the assignment, could be a prop, building or any other asset along with being lit properly, turntable and rendered out. Your videos really help out a lot. I looked up turntables for KeyShot and wow does a 30 second turntable(1920x1080) take a while to render out. It makes everything look realistic. And I was wondering how close I could come to that quality in Maya? I want to be an environment and asset modeler for 3D shows and games. Any advice?
english is not my first language and im having trouble understanding what you say when you are not going to do changes to something because it gives trouble in animating and bending but not on a still image, mgum ngun, I can't quite tell, very good tutorial tho!
In child i read the Mythology book by Kun (on the russian). The Hermes - it is the greek God, it seems he has wings on the sandals. He was a herald (like the twitter now). Mike Hermes also the herald a 3d's knowledge =)
Pino Kio I love this guy, i've learned alot from him, just a little fun, i see hes name so much due to being a subscriber and listening to him i thought it might be fun is all
Antony, yes, i understand. Sometimes a jokes happened not funny =) I have question to you: Which a browser you using? When i click "Reply" i dont have "+username" =(
Awesome tutorials. Your videos has helped me pass my 3d modeling class. Thank you sir.

Well my bank account number is ...... ( Just kidding buddy, happy you enjoy the videos )
This was a great tutorial. Well paced and simple to follow for people new to 3D. Thank you!
Thanks, now I can make an animated version of 1 guy 1 jar.
I've been following you since I first saw your tutorials, great stuff, Mike.

That works too, thanks for sharing
The best maya tutor is right Here....Learned a lot of stuffs...from u...Thnxx man...
Thank you Rahul !
It's beautiful and pretty easy. Thank you for the tutorial!

Stephen, to be honest I have experienced the same. It seems related to material choice combined with reflective properties.
Mr. Hermes,
I see. I suppose I will have to try adjusting the lighting from the environment tab instead of trying to find another material. Thanks for the quick feedback! I look forward to future tutorials really helpful to the aspiring modelers / animators out there 😊
Love it :D. Can you do a tutorial about the Hypershade in general, but with a little focus on nodes?
Will see what I can do
+Mike Hermes you were loud enough! ;)
sir can you please make a face modelling tutorial?
aman gowalkar Bad luck, he doesn't do characters
your lectures are in detail and very helpful
Thank you
Hey Mike, what is keyshot and why are we using it to texture if we can use maya to texture? Can you do a tutorial texturing the glass jar in maya?
Erik,
You can use many many programs to texture ( photoshop, Quixel,Mudbox etc etc . Keyshot is just one of them. I use it as it gives very realistic results
I know right, whats the point of added an additional software when we already have maya.
please explain me.how did you make top side cap another color?
Hello Mike, I want to start a unity 3d game and wanted a base 3d crate asset that can be broken. Can you do a tutorial on creating a shattering crate animation or know the proper term to search for a source.
You need a shatter plugin like Shatterplus
Mike Hermes Thanks and that would transfer over into Unity ?
hi sir need one Horlicks bottle tutorial because that not cap come properly pls do that tutorial
Great tutorial but when ever i try to import the file to keyshot it shows error ,says doesn't contain 3d geometry and i may need to export polygonal data from my modeling software. Can you help me with this?
Did you try to import an OBJ or an FBX file ?
Sorry for the late replay. I tried FBX file.
I just tried OBJ and it worked ,looks cool Thanks Mike Really appreciate it.
Hi Mike Hermes I have a question not about the video you have created I have a scene and a character it's how I want it on frame 1 but as I come of frame 1 the figure twists up could you tell me what I 've done or am doing wrong please with thanks Dave
David, check all keyframes on the character and scrub slowly through tha nimation. When he deforms look to see if there is a keyframe

I have a quick question for you. so lets say after you render your model in Key shot and re-export it back to Autodesk Maya maintain the assigned material example the glass material for the glass jar. No, actually Keyshot is the final station. If needed you can create the same glass effects directly in Maya ( see my glass tutorials )
The tutorial is really good but i have a question: What are using the "Insert Edge Tool" for? Does it have anything to do with smoothing?
Yes, when smoothing the edges become round. Adding edge loops controls that process
Mike Hermes Thank you !!
how do you get preview smooth??
which is best easy softwear for rendering...more of keyshort plz
You mean Maya or Keyshot ? My vote goes to keyshot
Hallo Mike
Why is KeyShot used for Material and not Maya?
Great Tutorials btw
They are both used for texturing. I just like Keyshot
@@MHTutorials3D Hi Mike, checked out keyshot, but too expensive at the moment. Your tutorials are very usefull and a blessing for every student but when you start using different software in a tutorial it gets really hard.

the lid looks a like its got a bit of noise inside it, is that normal?
Would it be possible for you to do this as well as uv and texture it in maya? This is a great tutorial but I've never used keyshot l only use maya mud box and zbrush.
If I had the time I would :-)
What type of export would you suggest from Keyshot6 in order to bring the object into After Effects? I want to track the 3D object into live action video sequence.
Kate, I am not sure if that is possible as Keyshot is usually the end-station
Ah okay, thank you. Would it be possible instead to bring it back into Maya? And what export would you use if that's possible?
Kate, like I said, Keyshot is the end station , sorry
Can Keyshot used fr Batch Rendering ?
thank you so much for the tutorial you really help me with my learning sorry for my bad english. peace for you brother from indonesia
Thank you ( and your English is fine )
Do you know of any free alternatives to KeyShot for rendering? Great and informative tutorial!
Not really, no. Sorry
what if you dont have a gazzilion dollars for keyshot, any other options
Absolutely, Maya, 3DCoat,Blender,Substance Painter.....
Very good and clear lessons! thank you so much!
You are very welcome

sorry. I hit wrong key. Can you help me to get back my extrude manipulator. I lost my document folder. Is not the first time . The only way I can get both back by refreshing my laptop then I loose MAYA.
Try hitting the + key while the Extrude tool is activated
Is it possible to do turntables in Keyshot? What is the best quality for a turntable in Maya?
Yes you can, resolution depends on what you are going to use it for
I have Animation for Production classes and we have 4 hours to do the assignment, could be a prop, building or any other asset along with being lit properly, turntable and rendered out.
Any advice?
The resolution you choose has to fit the output medium. Is it for TV, Internet ? Facebook ?
Mostly for TV.
1920 x 1080
Excuse me, how do i save a 3D Object like that final image? eg. if i wan't to use that glass jar in my game. I don't wan't a .JPG file format
There are many ways but you could export the model as an OBJ or FBX format along with the maps
mike can you modeling a dead tree
Could I get the same effect by using Maya's standard rendering and texturing?
Pretty close but I would use mental ray or arnold within Maya as the renderer
Okay thank you will give it a shot see what I can get thanks for the great videos helped me loads
Ok brilliant will relook at the animation thank you
Sure :-)
thnx mike.Your videos has helped me so much............
You are very welcome
Would it be easy to texture and render this inside maya, or via external program(keyshot)?
In Keyshot it is easy, in Maya it is a lot more work
Mike Hermes but then, wouldn't it be useless for maya animation purposes as it can't be exported to maya as a model?
Yes
Do Maya easy to learn for beginners in 3D modelling ?
Not too bad
Can you use keyshot to texture then export it and put it back to Maya ?
Nope
Mike Hermes is it possible to make textures like the glass in Maya ?
yes
Is the same thing possible without using keyshot ???
Same thing as in render ?
english is not my first language and im having trouble understanding what you say when you are not going to do changes to something because it gives trouble in animating and bending but not on a still image, mgum ngun, I can't quite tell, very good tutorial tho!
I am talking about nGons, Polygonal faces with more than 4 sides ( try to avoid them when modeling )
oh alright :) thank you a lot! and good content!
that was like the perfect but i liked that interior mode better
I guess it is a matter of personal taste :-)
thanks you so much sir.... for this tutorial
Is key shot free software? Love the tutorials :)
No it is not but I think they have free trials
ok thank you :)
Best tutorial video.
Thank you !
How to export the model again with textures into maya
Keyshot is the end station, you can't export the textures
Superb 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻💐🏆
why using keyshort ? instead of maya materials.. haa.. you know that it already has glass materials in maya or is the keyshort is better than maya?
Great tutorial!!
Thank you
How to unsmooth the object???
Undo the smooth ( CtrlZ )
Shift + D dosent work for me why is it.I cant duplicate it that way
It only works if you do it immediately after using Ctrl+D
Thanks alot i love your video
Thank you
Thank you..Is really nice tutorial..
Very nice... 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🤗🤗🤗🤗
Thanku Sir ❤️🙏🏻
How the hell are you getting real time glass rendering? What the frak?
:-)
Pls help me, i'm confused
amazing
Thank you
I actually thought you were gonna render it in Maya..hahaha
Nope :-)
same, was like, oh nvm its ks. >.
thx alot man
You are very welcome
wow you actually read my comment lol
key shot costs alot
It does
thanks😸😉👍
