    Hello, docs. Post 3 ortho surgeries: 13, 9 and 7 years ago. Both knees and right hip replaced. Occasionally I hear clicks but no pain. My knee doc once told me that
    I was the "forgotten knee".
    Not understanding what he meant, he then explained that I don't think about my knees as replacements. It's true; and my success is due to his skill. Oh, and compliance to physical therapy is required. Ortho surgeons are life changers - thank you for the excellent work! Thumbs up for new intro; yes, I like and subscribe to your videos. Yep, have had both knees done and clickity clack don't come back. My knees did click without pain about a year after the surgery but eventually went away. I ride my bike a lot nearly everyday and I think this helps a lot. I was worried at first but like I said it eventually went away. Three year on now and doing great. Very thankful to my doctors for this operation.

    Brad and Paul, thanks for the clear explanation. Clicking began about 2 months Post OP and continues intermittently for the past 18 years, especially when climbing stairs. I do bike for exercise about 12 miles daily, this seems to reduce the clicking noise. I notice the clicking is most predominate, when feeling very tired from exercise, I now rarely notice it.

    Hey Docs. I had my left knee replaced about 5 years ago and it has never clicked until a couple weeks ago when I did two back to back Orangetheory fitness workouts. It took about 5 days for it to stop clicking and it's been great ever since. That was also the first time that I had any pain in the knee after the rehabilitation stage. Do you ever talk about how tennis elbow can be repaired and maybe explain why as people get older joint pain never seems to go away. I do Orangetheory fitness classes every other day and my body never seems to recover even if I take a couple days off. Keep up the great informative videos. Love your new introduction. You guys provide a great community service. Your shows give me the confidence to have my second knee replacement done. Your content allows me to ask intelligent questions of my family doc and surgeon. Thank you so much for caring about us, your patients and your profession.

You adequately described the possibility of “clicking” with the new knee. “Clunking”, you suggested, might be a cause for concern but you never did elaborate. If the clunk is visible or audible or painful sometimes there can be an organized piece of soft tissue that’s in the way. Thankfully this is very rare and most get better. Good luck

    All's good in knee (9 months post op) and hip (3+years ... on of THE last before the world stopped because of u-know-what)! Knee has a bit of a click and a clunk. Only intermittently for a bit and then I'll forget about it, and it'll be back!! Just wish I'd known about you two before all, as I could have studied up via your incredible videos. Thanks. Your video saved me a trip back to the surgeon prematurely. I am 8 weeks and it just started. Not so much a noise as what I feel in the knee and through my hand when I have it on the knee. Usually at or near full flexion of 130-degrees. First reaction was, OMG, it’s popping out of a socket!” On second thought, maybe it is! 😀

    Brilliant video as always. I often wonder if you have a crystal ball as you always seem to cover subjects I've been affected by I'd! I'd been noticing after my 1st TKR, (Titnee MK1),'clicking & clunking'. I'd read that could happen & it would ease off. I saw my consultant for my 6 month check inc an x-ray. I mentioned the clicking/clunking. His response, & it's stuck with me, 'that's the one thing old people who've had knee replacements don't worry about'. Point taken & feeling humbled (I'm 55 now - I'm young then!)! He also said it's because I now have gaps between my knee joints, instead of rubbing against the bones, which I haven't had for years. After my 2nd TKR,(Titnee Mk2), Aug last year when the clicking/clunking started I knew I didn't need to worry about it. I get occasional creaking from both knees but like you said if there's no pain don't worry! Titnee Mk2 still a little swollen/sore but usually because I've been more active, not rested it much or used ice. So I go back to basics. RIC, but not the elevation as I was told that's not so good for a TKR. Plus I increase my physio - so essential. Many thanks from the UK 🇬🇧

I just had my hip replaced by the same surgeon and I brought it up to him a couple weeks ago and he said it is scar tissue build up under my knee cap. Hi Docs, I enjoy the info on knee replacements. I'm 60 and had my left knee replaced 2 and a half years ago. I originally injured my knee as a very young man and wore the articular cartilage down to the bone by the time I was 24. My knee replacement was my 16th surgery on the one knee. Since the replacement, I've gone back to playing half court basketball and lead a pretty normal life. I'm assuming that one other thing that might contribute to clicking would be the lack of cruciate ligaments (please correct me if I'm wrong) after knee replacement. I know in my case that when the knee is bent, I have some front to back looseness. When it's straight, it's fine. I only get some clicking in the morning after getting out of bed, but after that it's all good.

    • @TalkingWithDocs
      @TalkingWithDocs  2 года назад

      Thanks for sharing your story. The laxity that you experience in flexion is not uncommon. The crucible ligaments are not there to prevent the lower part of your leg from translating slightly forward. Glad to hear you’re living such an active life. All the best to you. You fellows might want to do a video telling people movements that can damage joints so that people can avoid them. For example, my two shoulder replacements were necessitated because I used to do lat pull downs behind the neck at the gym when I was young. Back in the ‘80, all the images on lat machines showed a figure pulling the bar behind he neck so I thought I was doing a safe movement. Now, the image never shows the person pulling the bar down behind the neck as it has been proven dangerous to the shoulder joint. Another dangerous exercise is weighted seated quad extensions on a machine which damage the knees. If I had only known what terrible damage I was doing to my body…

    The joints we were born with often click as we age, my left shoulder does, as does my right knee. I have to be careful with certain movements but so far so good. No need for the knife and replacement thingy now, but maybe later. Good to know that man made joints make noise too. If the pain gets too much I will see a Doc about repair to an old man, till then exercise and diet will have to suffice. Good video - thanks.

    Originally had a complex rt knee replacement. Unfortunately, due to infection of the metalwork, ended with several operations due to abscess reoccurring on the knee. It was decided to remove metalwork & replace with cemented knee! After approx 12 months a second revision of the knee was carried out. The result was successful - APART from the CLICK!!
    Orthopaedic consultant advised not to worry, & watching your vid now makes me doubly happy!! Other than the “CLICKING “ everything works well.
    Thanks for your video!👍😉🇬🇧

Plastic on back of knee cap, metal on femur. Doctor told me that was likely as swelling goes down. To me, it sounds like a distant bird chirp. Really weirded out my nieces when I had them listen to it.

    I just had surgery three months ago on my left knee where I had a total knee replacement. I now have a click when I walk. It’s noticeable by me but when I told my wife about it she listened as I walked and said she didn’t hear anything. It of course doesn’t hurt just it was something I wasn’t told about before surgery. Not that if I was told prior to surgery it would’ve stopped me from having the surgery. When I mentioned the click to my surgeon he said it was normal and over the next 6 months to a year I’ll get use to it. He said after a year I probably won’t even notice any longer.
    Within a week post surgery I was riding my recumbent etrike approximately 1 mile and by two weeks I was riding it 6+ miles. Only issue I had was swelling but I iced the knee after exercising it also elevated it which helped tremendously with the swelling. 3 months post surgery, I’m now up to 15-16 miles on my recumbent etrike. My surgeon said I was in the 2-5% of people returning to activities that soon post surgery. He said most people take longer to return the activities I’m able to do. I’m very pleased with my knee replacement and only wish I would’ve done it 6 months sooner. 😊

      Hi Kim so so sorry for your loss. It must be really difficult coping with all this on your own. But hang in there, it's worth it in the end. Try going back as if you've just come out of hospital after having your replacement. Ice, physio & rest. Little & often. Completing your physio, before & after your op, is so important to building up the muscles either side of your new knee to provide the support to it & encourage flexibility Remember your new knee won't be quite as your original one. Twisting etc. I haven't been able to do a proper Pedicure since my new knees. So I now treat myself to a monthly luxury Pedicure. Such a shame that I have to endure this pampering!!!!!! Hahaha! Anyway deserve it after the pain you have to go through in getting TKR's done! I didn't know about the clicking/clunking until after my op & it started. I was worried too. But great videos by these amazing docs are reassuring. Noises are ok. It will be painful but is so worth it in the end. Take care sending hugs from the UK 🇬🇧
