    So,you might consider making it more obvious in your written literature that you don't want the botanical basket in for reflux mode... Ended up letting it sit overnight and it was still drip dripping 14 hours later... It is however reading 182 on my cheap hydrometer! But takes all of your entire life if you leave the basket in! Also, please more info about the column packing? Scared the life out of me the first time I tipped it over to clean! A cutaway would help so much!
    Thanks so much! It sure does beat 90% and my first run of rum ever was voted better than Bacardi in a blind taste test!

    Any chance of some videos showing how it actually works? I'm interested in buying one but I feel I need more information about the reflux condenser and how it works. I'm waiting for someone to upload a video showing the mechanics of this unit but it would be better coming from the manufacturer..

      Hi, we haven't posted any videos of the internal mechanics yet, but that's a great idea. In Reflux Mode, as vapour passes up the column and through the packing material, the alcohol separates from the other compounds in the vapour. The vapour is then cooled and condenses into liquid as it passes through the condensing coil. A portion of the liquid is directed to the head of the column for cooling. Liquid that falls to the base of the column is returned to the boiler via a pump to be re-distilled. It’s good that it’s removing the fore shots but you still have to remove the heads before getting into the hearts or you will have a very bitter tasting alcohol…

    Yeah 4lt capacity, I have a vevor one I wanted to try before buying an expensive one that does less. Imagine. You have 50lt of birdwatchers or rum or ag whisky and only have this thing to distill. I'd like to see from stillspirits a 30lt air cooled still, I'd buy that every day of the week over a t500.

    I have just recieved my Pro Head Unit. You say it shuts off automatically when all the alcohol is out the wash in reflux mode, how does it know, how is the alcohol measured? I ask because if refluxing a normal 14% wash would be much faster than refluxing a 35% stripped run so it cant be time based.

    • @StillSpirits89
      @StillSpirits89  Год назад +2

      Hi Gary, thanks for your question. there is a sensor at the top of the column that monitors the passing vapour during the Reflux run. This sensor detects when the available alcohol has been distilled out of the boiler, regardless of the liquid volume and ABV in the boiler and ambient room temperature. Enjoy distilling with the Air Still Pro Head Unit. :-)

      What’s the price?

    • @paulc2886
      @paulc2886 Год назад +2

      @@davem3988 In UK its GBP 449 for he whole thing; GBP 299 for the head unit, apparently. I was considering this to resurrect my old Air Still and for quick experiments with Botanical recipes, but as I have a T500 I am not their target market. Water for a full 5 hour session of the T500 is only about GBP 1.50 - we pay GBP 13.50 per m3. So it would take a long time to recover the outlay - about 15 years. I can see this being really good for a new entrant to the hobby - you are getting 90ABV from the new air still with the reflux vs a smelly 60ABV from the old version, with automated removal of the nail polish stuff. But I do a 23l bucket a month in the T500 (my model engines consume a LOT of biofuel 😀) so I will continue with that.

    I'm in Canada and just ordered an Airstill Pro head as I currently use the pot still with 'standard' head. I normally double distill to make a 'cleaner' neutral spirit using the pot still. Do I need to do this with the pro head in reflux or am I able to collect until the unit shuts off, dilute, filter and add flavourings? I'm hoping so as that will save me a heap of time :)

    • @StillSpirits89
      @StillSpirits89  Год назад

      Hi Ian, thanks for your question. Using the Air Still Pro in Reflux Mode is a great way to distil a high ABV neutral spirit for flavouring, filtering your after the reflux run will further improve the quality of your neutral spirit. We recommend one run in Reflux Mode if flavouring your neutral spirit. Good luck with your first run on the Air Still Pro. Hi. In reflux mode do you still need to filter the distillate through the carbon filter?

      Hi there,
      Thank you for your message.
      Are you please able to confirm you are referring to the Air Still Pro?
      After all distillation runs, it is recommended to run your spirit through a carbon filter, yes.
      I hope this helps, please let us know if you have any questions at all.
      Kindest regards,

    The reflux mode turns off? As you know most home distillers do a stripping run ....what happens when you have more then 500 mills of alcohol to come out....I put about 35 to 40 percent abv in my t500 ......? Just asking

    • @StillSpirits89
      @StillSpirits89  Год назад +1

      Hi James, thanks for your questions. Yes, in Reflux Mode it does turn itself off once the alcohol has been distilled out of the boiler, regardless of what you put in it (ABV and volume). In Pot Still Mode, this feature is disabled so you have to manually turn it off. The 500ml at 90% is calculated from 4L of wash at 13% abv. For a stripping run, we recommend running it in Pot Still mode with an empty column to get your alcohol out as quickly as possible, then run it in Reflux Mode with a packed column to get a clean neutral spirit.
