  • Muncaster Castle offers a great day out for the family with history, art, stunning gardens, woodland walks, a cafe and gift shop and play area. The Hawk and Owl centre is a must with 2 bird show displays daily showing the majestic Eagle Owl and raptors and vultures.
The Castle dates from late 13th Century and the later addition.of the Pele tower was built on Roman remains. Their is a beautiful barrel ceiling completed by Italian plasterers, a range of art , tours of the stately rooms. One can even stay overnight in the tapestry room for a ghost experience.
There is now a weapon show that has to be booked where one can have a go with the weapons.
The gardens are best visited in Spring for the wonderful display of Rhododendrons, Magnolias, Azaleas and Camelias that cascade in a riot of colour around the castle. The terrace offers views over The River Esk towards the surrounding higher mountains.
The Castle and grounds are located 1 mile from Ravenglass on the A595 with easy access.
visit the website for a full list of events throughout the year.
I have included opening times and prices at the end of the video so it's worth watching to the end.

I stayed there in rhe Coach building dor an ivernight, dog friendly. It was brilliant. I walked around the gardens and then sonewhere i went out the top of the woodlands and oicked up a walk and wandered out there. Later on i went to Ravenglass and down to the estuary. Then headed off to Wastwater . That was two years ago it was lovely

Lovely gardens and great views. It's years since I've been and you've prompted me to go again this Spring.
Bit strange to see you at 'ground' level mind.

    Hi Tracey,
That was different to the usual, we’ve been to Muncaster loads of times usually on “fools” day during the summer holidays. On one occasion my son lost his brand-new jester’s hat so we had to retrace the whole blinkin day’s route to find it, that said you managed to find some paths that I don’t recall. Looks like there was a lot of fallen blossoms, was that a frost or were they just past their best. I spent yesterday 13 April photographing bluebells, the crazy warm weather has made them peak early here, are they where you are? In which case are you going to do a bluebell walk? Last year you walked through Nanny Brow on the way up to Loughrigg.
    Cheers
    Graham

Thanks Graham , I can't believe the bluebells have peaked already where you are, they haven't hers as yet but it won't be long , I am sure I will go back to Nanny Brow as they are the best bluebells around , I don't go to Rannerdale anymore as far too busy and roped paths everywhere now and if you dare to tread away from the path you get screamed at by renegades from across the other side of the valley ....I might get a friend of muncaster pass and go back to muncaster bluebells as they will be stunning when in full bloom...I didn't realise your son was a jester haha...we haven't had frost here for a while so will be planting my potatoes soon , atb Graham
