Hi Buddy, I forgot to mention that the antenna cracked as I put it in the box so it was not done at shipping. The side of the radio was not bulged out so it must have got damaged in shipping. I am amazed, you did a fantastic job on the radio, I had no idea how bad that battery pack was, too small for me to dig into. I have no idea who paid you to fix it but I would like to repay him and THANK him also. Thank You Buddy for an EXCELLENT repair.
Thanks Bill. It was really simple. A very easy repair for me which I like because most are tough. Sorry about the shipping damage. But I think it is fine now. Glad I could help my friend.
Hi "The Radio Shop" I just found you after seeing my YT friend "old64goat" last video on Jan 27 2018 about thanking you. This is the first video of yours I just saw... I like your style and I am subbed to you. Thanks to Bill for introducing you. I am very happy. In the next 24 Hrs I am going to binge watching your videos.
Thanks for the sub. Hope you like what you see. My style is a bit different than most folks. Bill is a great guy. Probably forgot more than most will ever know. Thanks for stopping in.
I just saw my friend Bill Old64goat had mentioned you and how you fixed his radio thought I would come by and check your channel out and add another subscription. That was a great thing you did to help out Bill.
Ok there another piece of test gear I need the PS305H. Great job Buddy and I have a FT-60 HT that needs a new display plastic window that's has a few cracks. Your video has giving me the courage to take it apart and tackle the job. Thanks Buddy
Good job as usual Buddy. I'm sure Bill appreciates the repair - I enjoy his videos also. I have one of those inexpensive power supplies and use it all the time. 73, Bill.
He is correct about you never knowing what shipping damage may occur. I had a mint Yaesu FT901DM that United Parcel Service drove a forklift into the front panel. DOUBLE BOXED and plenty of packing material but that didn't help. Just a scrapper now.
VERY impressive work, I found the same thing on boards that had stakes passing through the board, just enough heat on the soldering flow bath they used back years ago, not enough for the stakes, Nice work all around. Dave W4GSM
Great video..glad Bill's HT got going again. Thanks to whoever paid the bill for Bill! :-) I've picked up a few battery powered pieces of gear(radios and test equipment) and battery corrosion is the number one problem. Stuff is nasty as you mention the outgassing and seen it get under the solder mask and eat traces..ugh!! Lots of work to clean and get it all. Yes, yes, yes take your batteries out! But I'm as guilty as others.
Batteries can really make for a bad day. Vinegar/salt solution can really help in removing it. As long as there are traces left. Thanks for stopping in.
I've only used white vinegar never heard about adding salt. What ration do you add salt to the vinegar? When I see something at an online auction, I look for pictures for the battery compartment...if they don't have one, I ask for it. If they won't reply..no bid or a really low bid.
I think everyone has left the batteries in something and forgotten about them until they went to use it next time. I to am guilty of that. Nice to see you got it working for Bill. The power supply is a pretty good bang for the buck. Like you said, not a true lab quality supply. However it also doesn't cost a couple thousand dollars like a true lab supply would.
One thing I'd never thought about before was the outgassing from corroding batteries...thanks Buddy for sticking that idea in the back of my head, may save me some heartache in the future! 73 - Dino KL0S
I am sure Bill will be happy with your repair, I kind of thought the problem was related to the battery contact system in general !!Have a good day !! ----------------- John Bellas KC2UVN
A lithium battery would most likely not leak under the stressed environment like being stored outside in the cold. Although lithium do have their own faults. Number one rule, never leave batteries in when not in use for a period of time. Thanks for asking.
Thanks Robert. It was hard to see it under the videos camera microscope due to lighting but in the microscope eye piece I could see the crack around the pin. Why I need a new LED light ring so you guys can see what I see. If you look at 13:25 you can barely make out the black ring right around the pin. Seen this many times.
It would be better to clean it with vinegar then isopropyl in this sort of case! It will neutralise the alkaline from the battery corrosion, isopropanol only clean it won't neutralise the corrosion. A thermistor should prevent the power surge when you turn the power supply on. Can you not have bubble wrap on your desk it is really annoying hearing all that rustling thanks! I was saying to him that he should have a lithium battery pack with a buck converter built in of 9 volts what you can buy? and using your phone 5v charger of 2 amps on more to charge it. It would be a lot better in the long run I can see him leaving the batteries in again.
As I mentioned in the video the metal contacts went into a vinegar/salt solution. It removes all the nasty stuff that battery did. After that it is then put in a baking soda/ distilled water solution to neutralize the vinegar. I seldom use bubble wrap but the main bench is loaded with a torn down radio. Sorry about that.
My PEVONO PS305H died 28 days. Email PEVONO , they said my symptoms sound like one of the connectors came loose inside. I opened it up disconnected all the wire connectors reconnected them receded it worked another two months until out of warranty and then it died again after that nothing I can do out of warranty I now have a EVONO brick. My other three power supplies are roughly 35 years old and never once have broken down. #1: BK PRECION Triple Output DC power supply 1651 #2: Hewlett-Packard 60205C duel DC power supply #3: ACOPIAN A24H850 So before buying you decide 35 years or a power supply that last three months. And one of my power supplies was a student trainer beginners 101 electronics so you know how badly that unit was abused and short-circuited in every class for its entire life until I got it five years ago and it still works perfectly.
You just cannot beat the old solid made stuff. Sounds like yours suffered micro failure. So far this one is going just fine. But it is not used all the time. My Harrison Labs supply is still kicking and is 40 plus years old. The Pevono will never last that long.

I could listen to your accent all day Buddy. Soothing, relaxing and educational.
Thank you very much
Great fix for Bill. I am glad to see him get it back at no cost to him. I enjoy yours and Bill's videos. Carl
Thanks Carl. Folks are still nice these days. Glad I could be a part of it.
Nice fix, nice power supply to, it's nice to see others helping out other Hams I'm sure he will appreciate it very much. 73
Agreed. It is all about helping others. So many have helped myself. Thanks for stopping in.
I just saw my friend Bill Old64goat had mentioned you and how you fixed his radio thought I would come by and check your channel out and add another subscription. That was a great thing you did to help out Bill.
Thanks Larry. bill is a great guy. Thanks for the sub also.

Thanks for watching. Bill is a great guy.
Ordered that power supply last week. Supposed to be in tomorrow. Mike gave it a 👍.
You always do such a nice job explaining the whats and whys of the repair. Awesome job and thanks for sharing. 73
Thanks for that nice repay Michael.
Nice repair Buddy. I know you're really busy, but please keep the videos coming.
Thanks Jerry. Yes so far behind here. I need to retire and do videos full time. More to come.

Great deal Lyle on tearing into the FT-60. Should not be that hard. I am going to be experimenting on 3D printing clear lens.
Good job as usual Buddy. I'm sure Bill appreciates the repair - I enjoy his videos also. I have one of those inexpensive power supplies and use it all the time. 73, Bill.
Good to know Bill. It really is a decent supply. Bills videos make my day. Thanks for watching.
Enjoyed the repair and Thanks to the $doner. That was a Good peak of the PS. workings. 73 Leo. k1zek
Thanks. The repair was quite easy to do. Nice to have easy jobs once in a while.

Sorry to hear about that. Makes for a bad day.

Appreciate that comment Dave. Yes wave soldering is great on some things but not on the bigger pads.
Very nice repair..... Thanks .
Thanks Pierre.

Check out my video number 40 on wafer switch cleaning. has all the details on the ratio for the solution.

Nice job and a great review buddy
Thanks very much allan
Nice work. Bill will be glad to get it back working!! They really boogered it ip in shipping!!
Yes always have to worry about shipping things. Even small stuff. Thanks for watching.
Bill sent me your way. I subscribed.
All my best.
Bobby
Thanks for the sub Bobby. Hope you enjoy.

Agree on the supply Mike. I really like it. Batteries do nasty stuff. Almost like that glue does.
No problem Dino. The gasses can so lots of damage.
Good review Buddy. Also great repair job. You are THE Master technician. Thanks for sharing with us. 73 DE K7RMJ Frank
Thanks for the kind words Frank. Always a pleasure to see you.
Good job!
Thanks!
I'm always amazed at how just a crack in the solder can disable a radio.
Dose not take much that is for sure. Thanks
Pevono must have sent power supplies to everyone doing radio repairs on RUclips!
I think you are right
I am sure Bill will be happy with your repair, I kind of thought the problem was related to the battery contact system in general !!Have a good day !! ----------------- John Bellas KC2UVN
Thanks John. I do believe the battery issues were the most of the problem.
It seems that most of the AA battery vendors leak. Which ones are less prone to leaking?
A lithium battery would most likely not leak under the stressed environment like being stored outside in the cold. Although lithium do have their own faults. Number one rule, never leave batteries in when not in use for a period of time. Thanks for asking.
Another excellent video. I'm curious, why do you think that one joint cracked?
Thanks Robert. It was hard to see it under the videos camera microscope due to lighting but in the microscope eye piece I could see the crack around the pin. Why I need a new LED light ring so you guys can see what I see. If you look at 13:25 you can barely make out the black ring right around the pin. Seen this many times.
Robert Gibbons shit
Pleased to find your channel through this video.
How about keeping the positive banana plug disconnected until the supply settles down, instead of installing a switch?
That's what I was thinking.
Power supply came in. It's smaller than it looks on camera.
Tiny little things.
Hey i have a Kenwood ts-430 in need of some attention , you interested in taking a look at it?
Hi Daniel. No way can I look at it at the moment. About 6 months behind and now facing surgery.
I’d never imagine such a heavy Deliverence accent, with someone capable of fix ing tiny crappy radios.
