We respond to a distress call, which turns out to be a Klingon ambush. Of course. But this time, we are joined by the USS Glenn NCC-1030 and its strange new spore drive? Also they have a tardigrade?

"It looks like a deceptively calm sea out there. There are monsters under those waves." Ric, you're a poet!
Ahahaha Dr Chan is great
“Little puddle of sadness” will be my go-to phrase for a disaster.
Also Odo when he's sad.
"There's Klingons happening!!!"
Always hilarious.
Thank you for this awesome Star-Trek-Online-Made-Into-a-TV-series! I feel it's just as good as, if not better than, the canon material it is based off of.
Imagine your new captain is a bloke, known for killing his last crew....
The confidence you would feel wouldn't be fantastic.
Exactly.
holy shit its a wild sage. i haven't seen you active since your old space engineer days
"Oh, so THIS is why the Captain goes down with the ship. Less awkward stares on the next one, that way..."
Certainly going to carry a bit of a stigma. Funny thing is, I bet if he was more approachable, people would have discovered his deception quicker.

Seeing the giant tartigrade thing charging after the Klingons had me in stitches and then wanting to yell at Straal in full Dalek mode: *"Explain! EXPLAIN!!"*
Oh boy... its really weird seeing the Glen in action, knowing what ultimately happens to it.
and with a working Spore Drive no less.
@@Nichodo yea... makes me wonder if after parting way with Hale..... the Glen well.... you know
@@Nichodo it worked, they just trying to jump too far.
@@RandomTrinidadian Maybe Hale is a S31 operative and sabotaged it wink wink

Your videos inspired me to download this game onto my PS4 and start my own journey as a 23rd century Captain embroiled into the Temporal Cold War and thrust into the future. I even have temporal duplicates of Tarsi, T’Met, and Skavrin in my bridge crew! If we meet up we’ll trryyyy not to cause a paradox.
If anyone is interested in looking me up, in game I am (as of writing this) Lieutenant Commander Maria J. Rodriguez, commanding the USS Requiem (NCC-1024-A)
The registry number is the date of my anniversary with my girlfriend 😊
4:39 The chance that he "doesn't do well under pressure" might be part of how he ended up on a research station instead of a starship.
You know, for the last 3 weeks, your videos are appearing in my Sunday Google News topics....
Clearly, you're doing great work!!
Thank you, I have no idea how they ended up there!
You always make my evening, whenever you publish new part of STO series
7:48 Good lord man did you leave your rifle on stormtrooper mode.
I dunno what you mean. I'm super skillful.
Maybe you should have stun Straal, given what later happens to him, it would have been better if he wasn't conscious.
Of all the things J'ula is, most of them bad, one has to admit she is an exceptionally skilled computer programmer.
She can even program alien systems designed to not let her program them. So much plot armor.
Shame she is kinda drunk otherwise she'd be hot
@@skywise001 not to mention she can instantly program control override and infest computer systems from 200 years in her future. Including stuff based on Solinae and Iconian tech. Magically!
We hate Sela, Mirror Leeta and T'ket as villains. We hate J'ula as a badly constructed character.
"The Klingons are getting bolder since they acquired cloaking technology."
TOS: Balance of Terror, set a decade later:
KIRK: I don't see anything. I can't understand it.
SPOCK: Invisibility is theoretically possible, Captain, with selective bending of light. But the power cost is enormous.
They may have solved that problem.
*SIGH*
(Not that Enterprise didn't screw this up first)
Not like Star Trek hasn't had retcons regarding earlier TOS lore. Remember the Augment Wars of the 90s and a completely fine Los Angeles visited by Voyager during that same time?
@@nathanielheilmann7351 Indeed. And it drives me crazy every time. :-)
I just wish with Klingon cloaking being absent for the whole of TOS (and only added in SFS after rewrites dropped the Romulan origin of the BoP) and treated as a novelty and new development in TOS, and specifically previously-theoretical in dialogue... Enterprise and Discovery had shown restraint. Which, honestly, has been a big problem with Trek prequels in general... unwillingness to forego the familiar toolbox of technologies and elements that the franchise has become used to in later time periods, even when period-appropriateness would demand that they should.
Voyager, at least I can forgive because they didn't have a modern-day war zone to shoot in. The prequels have less an excuse since they're creating everything from scratch anyhow! Either way, I know DSC isn't going anywhere that ENT didn't blaze a (frustrating) trail for first...
lets be honest here TOS has been retconned by every bit of star trek canon after it to the point that the version we currently have is no longer canon but that leaves room for a proper modern remake of TOS none of that kelvin timeline crap heck strange new worlds may just lead up to that
Well in one of the Enterprise novels it does explain that the Romulan cloaking ships used in the 22nd century was a prototype. It could also be that the Romulan used a sort of reflective technology that is similar to cloaking but not entirely.
Ya its sad how everyone thinks cloaking is something Klingons have always had.
I wonder if we'll get a mission to solve the mystery of Admiral Kensington's dodgy accent.
Thanks for the show/story, Ric.
Not the greatest game engine, but the stories are interesting enough. It's the sort of game that I spend an hour or two in every couple of months when new content comes out.....
This is partly why I made the series. Decent Star Trek themed stories, in a medium that's not really going to attract too much attention.
"Before it was jaaamed at the source..."
She sounds just like someone that does not have a posh British accent trying to do a posh British accent.
I'm playing "the historical" version of this quest with my main character (allready done it once on my DIS character) and what really gets me at a sour note is how Ja'ula is portrayed as the incredible Masterhacker and her unnecessary thick plot armor. A simple escape by cunning plan or something other than "i have this incredible computer skills and tricked you 5 times with the same old trick to turn the ship against you" stuff, would made her way more impressive than this trope.
But as allways thank you for playing :)
Fantastic episode I loved the reactions to everything here.
I wonder... What do you plan to do with Measure of Morality part 2 since part 1 is not available at the current time? Skip it until the graphic issue on Brea III that causes a freeze up with lighting 2.0 is finally resolved and then cover it when it's back?
i havent played sto in like 2 years but this makes me want to take the 3 days to download it again
These are amazing!
I think my happiest moment in sto was this mission. My BOFF's bugged through J'ula's shield in the Engineering lab and spent a few minutes killing her over and over.
We all saw you miss 7:48
This is perfect, just as this came out, my character on my account on my PS4 hit captain
Called _Pleidies_ the _Pioneer_ again. Maybe just change the ship's name at this point?
Also, it seems Cryptic made a mistake in this story: I thought the _Glenn_ 's Shroom Zoom Drive was incomplete, and the first time they tried using it, it turned everyone onboard into flesh lumps, sort of like that one guy's quirk in _BNHA_ , only _not_ alive. Here the _Glenn_ 's jumping around like the _Discovery_ in the latter bit of season 1. Yes they had the Tardigrade, but I don't think Culver cracked the drive at this point, did he?
I caught myself doing it in the latest episode too. Fortunately this time I caught it. Good job I won't be using it for much longer!
@@CertifiablyIngame Name your next ship the Pioneer...and spend the rest of this subseries calling it the Pleidies. :-)
@@VulpisFoxfire He already uses various iterations of the _Armiger_ . Even the Pioneer-class was so named. Which makes this funnier, since there's no way Rick was used to calling a ship _Pioneer_ . It just sort of happened in these episodes.
Chans voice actor is good
4:25 I love this guy because he’s essentially a Lower Decks character who got stuck in a non-comedy Trek episode
0:45 "... jarmed at the sauce"
..Was it rasberry?
Ric loves to call the ship the Pioneer!
I'm going to audition for VO work as part of the Great Resignation:
Admiral Kensington: Fufff fuff fuffff Fuf, fuf fuf fuf. fUf. HOORB!
Dr. Dean Chan: i'M sO vErY nErVoUs AnD wRiNgInG mY hAnDs
Justin Straal: I'm planning on draaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaging out my diaaaaaaaaaalogue as much as I caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan
Also - you can self destruct your shuttles, but you can't lock them down to prevent them from being stolen? I guess if they blow up after you steal them, that's a deterrent.
thankyou for all the starship evocation, inspired motivation. that said, themes viva advertising tell me i am not welcome and there is always something else to do. thankyou for all the fish. goodbye... .
Didn't the Klingons only get cloaking tech in the TOS era? When they traded ships to the Romulans for it? So about 20 years after Disco's magical supertech Space Orcs.
There is a lore reason. It is BS, but there is a reason. It is not true cloaking tech but energy dampening and invisibility screens. At this time only Romulans have "true" cloaks and they are not that great.
0:18 jumpy boi
When a mission has to tell you over and over how good an NPC is and how much their sooooo scared of them it makes them into a joke. A dead horse beating joke.
Wait at 19:20. I always thought if the cloak is up the shields are down.
Some smart shield toggle action.
I keep wondering if Lorca's trip to the escape pods wasn't entirely his choice there. We also don't know when he was injured, so getting injured and someone jammed him in the escape pods might also be possible there
How did that man ever get into starfleet??
Nepotism even exists in the future, it seems. Either that, or he got the equivalent of an American "sports scholarship" that let him avoid the military side of things, which is what seems to have happened with Stamets too. 🤷♂️
Plot convience
Not everyone is a Kirk or Sisko or Hale. Especially if they're on a science station
well Starfleet is a scientific organization they put scientific research above military's training
@@nathanielheilmann7351 As others have pointed out, it may be *why* he's on a science station. Starfleet is more than just the military arm, after all.
What shields?! I thought all cloaking tech caused you to lose your shielding.
Great now he's been impregnated by a giant alien water bear. Obviously there'll have to be a break as Starfleet can't expect you to work in that condition. Starfleet must have some kin of paternity leave. Can he sue for child support when there's no longer any money? There should at least be a meeting with HR. Other species can't just randomly impregnate co-workers without their permission and/or during work hours.
Dr. Dean Chan looks almost identical to Hale XD
The TRULY sad part is, that the STD part of the STO story is better written, better acted, and has better graphics than the actual STD ever has, especially the new season.
See, Dr. Dean Chan was not a great introduction to Discovery missions back in their first release. Heard his dialogue and immediately just had my head in my hands like, "This? This is what we're doing now?" Just something about the way he talks irks me, like they took some college student and told him to act pathetic.
EDIT: Oh yeah, then the Glenn jumped in and started spinning around everywhere, and I damn near fell out of my chair laughing at how stupid it looked.
Now you know how people felt hearing Vic Micnogna as a TOS captain.
Also, remember Gillespie on TNG?
Yeah, the spin hurts me every time... I don't know who greenlit it...
@@AdamantLightLP Probably the same people who more recently greenlit a personal soundproof forcefield bubble that goes around the captain's chair.
@@ODST_Parker And yet still no seatbelts, somehow. :-)
attempt #8 plz make the cultural index for The Sheliak Corporate.
well we know how this goes lol
Very true.
That ;ast comment was not meant for this video. Jeebus, what the heck was I thinking!
The next time you see chihula she will kill you on round earth trying to protect the space station and the Glen will be no words to be found but you have your other friends that you saw in the first episodes or your first two episodes and I believe all of you will die including your friends cuz jehula will use a weapon that will really devastate everything and then you get transported into the future till what is it to where you're transported last time and your other show but then you'd only be a commander 5 I do believe but I think you might make a command of six out of that fight too because I just played that and now I am a low admiral 41 at the same level it was when you were only at 21 do some side missions even the ones when you go fly by planets and says f you might want to click on it do some side missions to change your upcoming shows cuz they're the exact same as what you did before.
Curious that two successful proofs-of-concept (the Glenn and the Discovery) spurred no one else to pick up spore-drive research. Not Starfleet. Not Section 31. No one. Despite obvious tactical and transportation advantages, the whole thing appears to have been dropped and forgotten. 🤔🤷♂️🖖
The very mystery of it all.
Starfleet has a tendency of looking at good ideas and dropping them because they are somewhat problematic
The whole "can destroy the entire multiverse if misused" is the reason.
the stopped using it for 2 reasons. 1. it requires the use and torture of a non sentient animal or a genetical engineered operator to make it and genetic engineering is banned by the federation and animal cruelty is most likely against federation law as well 2. in order to make sure something like control never happened again any and all data regarding discovery and her crew were made above top secret this includes spore drive tech. the top secret status of spore drive tech as since been rescinded by the 32nd century and new spore drive equipped ships are being constructed by Starfleet especially now that they have the tech to make the need for a living pilot mostly obsolete
@@nathanielheilmann7351 you'd think the Romulus or some less idealistic empire wouldn't care though
Can somebody please tell me how to play this game online like what platform do you use to use stadia pro steam I cannot figure out I want to play this game so bad but I do not know how please someone like me now please God thank you so much I’m obsessed with discovery love and light
Why are you the only one armed at HQ?

I hate the alternate history of STD so much. I can't wait for STOSS to get back to the 25th Century and get away from all this retcon BS.
I still hate the spore drive concept it is still stupid
