Wow, kinda speechless. This watch should be in a museum. I'm also still wrapping my head around the story. Shrapnel, however small, in the right spot could be game over. I love how the narrative from the owner is so stoic. I'm definitely sharing this review with my students in the fall.
    So thankful,
    Dave :)

WOW, such a cool story and watch, a little bit to the left or right and the shrapnel would have caused serious damage to the owners wrist or the crystal/dial!

Why are my favourite vintage watches always some of the rarest?
EDIT - I typed that before I heard the shrapnel story. Amazing.

Great vid Spencer and I really love your enthusiasm. I purchased my 6217 8001 in 1967 when I was serving with the Australian Army in Malaysia. It never saw action as such, except a couple of wild bar brawls in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur! I put the watch away years ago and found it today while rummaging through some of my old stuff. It still works and keeps time beautifully. The crown is tight and adjusts well only detraction are a few scratches on the crystal and case. But it was my working day watch so that is to be expected. I am looking to bringing it back into shape with a service and as I no longer have the original rubber wrist band I am looking to replace this. Do you know which type of strap might being a 1967 model might have had; tyre track ot tropic? Any suggestions on how I might get my hands on perhaps an unsold original strap? Thanks.
