  • The wooly bugger is potentially the world's most extraordinary streamer pattern. They can catch just about anything from trout to bass and every fish in between. This is one of my favorite variations and can be tied in various colors.

Thanks for watching! I'm surprised we made it this far without posting this one! Also got another long-format video coming up since you all seemed to enjoy that.

100% AGREE!!! 2 seasons ago I tied up a bunch of Lance Egan's jig streamers. It's very similar to this pattern. Since then I've found this fly to be by far the most productive streamer I've fished. Black/UV-blue is absolutely dynamite!

I love this variation verses older buggers. Looks like the Krystal flash with the wire will really help this pattern. Thanks for the great tutorial. Tight lines to all.

Beautifully proportioned Wonly Bugger! I love watching you tie! Your movements are so fluid, precise and economical it's a genuine pleasure to view your videos.

I tie this in all yellow and have lost count of the number of species of fish I have landed using it - pan fish, LL salmon, steelhead, brook trout, any stocked trout, smallmouth and largemouth and striped bass, arctic char, grayling, bull trout and even a tiger muskie. My wife is Phd biologist and she was at a conference and was talking to some marine biologists. It was a time when brightly colored wetsuits were in fashion and an abnormally high number of divers wearing yellow wetsuits were getting bit by sharks. So many that they started calling it "yum yum yellow." So, I started tying all yellow streamers and my success went way up.

I love using purple wooly buggers w/o a bead head so they swim in the 1-3 foot range. Best used in low light (early morning/late evening. When the sky is turning from midnight black to midnight blue/ midnight blue to midnight black) its absolutely a killer. Tied in sizes 8-16...

Loved the fly but it is hard to see a dark colored fly against a dark colored background.
