It is such a shame that Newer Super Mario Bros U was cancelled. That would have been the Newer Team's ultimate project for sure. Waiting for Newer Deluxe is also a pain. It looks so promising to me that I don't want to wait anymore.
Yeah, I've gone through their concepts and stuff that they released and it definitely looks like it would have been the best in the series if it was actually brought to fruition properly. Part of the reason (there were many reasons) it was canned was that, as a Wii U game, it would have required a lot more work to make at least with matching proper quality. I almost wonder if they just tried making it too early, and that if they either instead tried making it nowadays with way more evolved modding for that game or just made it another hack of Mario Wii (which I honestly would have preferred, I'd much rather have another hack of Wii according to their concepts for Newer U than no game at all, and I would actually be able to play it easily, and it would have been easier to make for them) things would have gone a lot better, but as it stands they still have no interest in renewing the project. Another interesting thing is that apparently, despite being a NSMBU hack, Newer U would NOT be a multiplayer game, it was going to be single-player only much like Newer DS. That might sound like a downgrade at first but I wouldn't say so, designing the levels around single-player would be a lot better and allow them to make things a lot more interesting, tight, and focused, as having to accommodate every level to work with 4-player co-op was not only hard but meant that certain things couldn't be done and ultimately requires not making as good and fun level design as in a single-player game. Hence part of why many people say Newer DS is the better game than Newer Wii despite being smaller and being a DS game, because of its incredibly good and focused level design that was made around just 1 player.
I actually got to kinda talk to Skawo (the head of the Newer Team) via a few comments when I played Newer SMB DS on my other channel and I got to learn a little bit about the development of that ROM Hack and in turn this one. It was really fascinating not just talking with the lead developer, but also learning a few behind the scenes facts, such as who composed the original songs for example. I’ll always be great full that I was able to talk to Skawo and the fact they took time out of their busy schedule to watch and talk with small creators is really something amazing.
My mom LOVED playing 2D marios in co-op with me, and after we fully cleared New Super Mario Bros U it seemed like it was over... Years later, around 2016 or so, i found out about this. I loaded it into my modded Wii U, and i showed up to the kitchen with Wii Remotes in hand... She had no idea how, but suddenly there was more mario to play!
wonder is really a step in the right direction for nintendo buuuut, i do think they could have done things better, i think the wonder effects get stale really fast since they show up in every level and it kinda hinders the level design a bit

@@bjorngmrofficial To be fair, the original Newer Wii also just "copied" the same artstyle overall as NSMBWii, largely due to it reusing tons of the same assets of course with being both a mod and a direct sequel. It always maintained the New Super Mario Bros. artstyle and "brand," just with more creativity in its design and without the bland staleness that the official games in the series suffered from. It's still a New Super Mario Bros. series game, just...actually GOOD and inspired. So I see the U "artstyle" as kinda just bringing the game up to be more "HD" (even though it's still on the Wii lol).

I think you meant that the worldtransition is better than in New Super Mario Bros Wii cause the transitions are quit simmilar to New Super Mario Bros U also I think that the programming of that Hack is absolutely amazing but the laveldesign isnt the (but its from 2013 and the standarts werent so high theese days)

Ngl I think the level design of this game is objectively horrid, barring like 4, 5 stages with good design. The ideas are there, but the execution is bad. It’s missing that quintessential nature of a platformer that makes the experience enjoyable. Everything other than the level design is excellent.

This game is a FANGAME first of all, it's not made by Nintendo, it's a rom hack/mod of a Wii game, and you need a Wii or Wii U console to play it and the Wii disc of the original unhacked game. Also, this fangame was made in 2013, the Switch literally didn't exist at that time. You do not know for a fact it's on the Switch because that's not a fact at all, that's fiction, a total lie. This is only on the Wii and Wii U, or the Dolphin emulator for PC, and again, it's not an official Nintendo-made game, it was made by fans back in 2013.

Hard Mode is actually available during the entire game, it just doesn't tell you about it until you beat the game
