I would cut the netting to make a hammock for the melon, then tie a cord to each end to tie to the cattle panel so you can get the correct length for the best support.
I want to try a pumpkin tunnel, and see if I can “carve in place” and have a jack o lantern tunnel… my kids would love it but it seems like work 😅 Still want to try….
Sure thing. I run 2 - 30" beds with an 18" Pathway down the middle. The base of the panel is set just off the outside edge of the beds. So that puts the base at 78" across. Hope that helps👍
Great question! It would probably work for the small super pie pumpkins. I think the larger ones may get a bit too heavy. It works great for most of the winter Squash though.
I got some of these but right at 15 lbs my round melons were too much for them. I also see where the vine gets crimped and brushed where it it over the metal, any ideas on that?
I experienced the same thing with the larger Melons. The bigger varieties just need a little more heavy duty hammock I believe. I'm experimenting with that this year as well.
Ok question are you growing only one melon per vine? Years ago I grew cantaloupe out here in west texas desert and not knowing anything I grew a bunch without pulling any flowers. I've been watching videos saying to grow only one per vine. It seems such a waste I do understand how it makes one bigger and sweeter but my melons were normal size and sweet. I'm fixing to grow some watermelons I was just curious about growing only one per vine since I don't have much space and I am going vertical this year. Thanks for the videos!
I'm growing sugar baby watermelons on trellis this year. I have seen many flowers and baby melons on my plants since June. However, I noticed that they stopped growing about two weeks ago and no new flowers. I added more compost and mulched the area a week ago but still no new growth. We have some cool weather on the east side of Michigan lately. What do you think the problem would possibly be?
I've actually been seeing the same thing here on the West side of Michigan. I could be crazy, but I think it may have something to do with the lack of pollinators this year. Just a theory though, nothing to substantiate it other than observation. I wish had a better answer for you..
@@SimplisticFarms Actually I saw more bees in my garden this year. I planted a cilantro next to the watermelon and they flowered already a few weeks ago. So many bees on the cilantro. I also have borage in my garden and bees love the borage.
@@SimplisticFarms I saw new growth/flowers on my sugar baby watermelon about a week ago. There are a few new baby watermelons even. We got more rain and a few humid days two weeks ago so I think that might help the new growth. By using your method of identifying when to pick ripe watermelon, we just picked our first one. That's the best watermelon we ever had. Thank you very much for sharing your valuable information.

Aren't they also called BRAS?😂😅great video thanks
Well these we're called hammocks, but yes, bras would work as well!🤙😅🤣
We love the melon tunnel…very cool! Great solution looks a lot better than the cut up tshirts we’ve used in the past 😂
Thanks! So far so good👍
Using cut-up panty hose or knee hi's works well too to hold your melons in place.
Looks great. And glad
You found the solution. 👍
Thanks, I anticipated it but glad I was able to get them before I lost anymore. That tunnel is loaded with melons though!
@@SimplisticFarms looks awesome.
Great videos, I'm building 2 20ft tunnels and like your tunels height and width. Can you tell me how wide you set the base of your panels at?

@Simplistic Farms Great, thank you for your response, helps alot.

Thanks!
Would you recommend the tunnel for pumpkins?

@@SimplisticFarms I found cotton net bags that seem to be doing the trick.
Perfect!
@@2olvets443 Was wondering do you have the name of the ones your using, thanks.
I got these, too. They work ok, but are way too long. Tough to avoid the vine when tying it up.

No, I do not pull any flowers. I grow as many as possible and have no issues with size or production.👍 Welcome to the channel!
