    Essence makes an incredible gel top coat. It's 3 or 4 dollars, and I use any polish. It's lasts me over two weeks without a single chip. Which is about how long shellac lasts on me, and normal polish lasts about a day.

      pghmommyshops I have used it and you can just use regular nail polish remover! Comes off normally. And as for applying it, I do two coats of color and one of the top coat just as you would normal polish

      pghmommyshops it comes off with regular nail polish remover. Not hard at all. You can even use non acetone. It it does take a little longer to get through the top coat depending on how many top coats you put on. I sometimes do 2 to make it extra shiny even longer. No need to soak

    • @666ayjay
      @666ayjay 8 лет назад +6

      A good idea is to file a bit of the top coat , then it'll soak into the polish even better

    I know Tati is never going to see this, but I've really been loving her channel lately! I just started watching a couple weeks ago and was immediately hooked. She has stopped me from buying several really bad products that I could have wasted a lot of money on! I love her attitude, and how she's not fake, and actually gives honest reviews. Thankyou Tati, for getting me back into makeup, love you!!!❤️

    What people don't realize is that this is a marketing ploy. You don't need the gel polish, you only need the gel topcoat. The best one is the 3d Sally Hansen gel topcoat. You can keep and use all your normal polish and it will be a gel manicure.... Its amazing. You don't need to by both the polish and topcoat.

    • @yupyup1562

      Jennifer Smith
      I don’t understand. The gel topcoat is the activator that hardens the gel color coat and regular nail polish doesn’t need the gel topcoat, so how does the gel topcoat even work with regular nail polish or make it last longer? I’m confused. Thank you.

      I use the ‘gel’ top coat with regular polish and it’s amazing. The glossiest finish I’ve ever used - it’s like a mirror. Definitely worth the money investing in base and top coats and going cheaper on colours.

      I think one of the major pros between gel and regular polish is the drying time. Gel is a quick 1-2 min process, whereas regular polish takes much longer to dry FULLY. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

    I've been using the Essie gel top coat product for months and love it. I disagree though that they are 'married' - I use my regular Essie/OPI polish and then use the Essie Gel topcoat and it's amazing---my nails have never been in better shape. Additional tip: The OPI nail envy nail strengthener base coat coupled with the Essie gel topcoat is my official holy grail. Love your videos Tati --thanks for putting out so much content. it's awesome

    As a nail tech I get so annoyed when I hear about people having their nails wrecked by incorrect removal of acrylics.

    • @Haffina
      @Haffina 8 лет назад +43

      And if it hurts when your gel polish is cured it means the gel has been put on too thick.

    • @stephychado
      @stephychado 8 лет назад +16

      Haffina that makes so much sense. I've been to nail salons & had my hand feel like it's burning in the light, then the nail polish always looked like it dried gloopy. Then I switched salons & had no issues anymore.

    • @Maribassino
      @Maribassino 7 лет назад +16

      Haley Chacon hmm that's , bit harsh.. yes people should inform themselves before deciding on a salon or what they want to get done, but at the same time they are supposed to be the experts and know how to do it right, that's what you pay them for anyways...

    • @ACWells13
      @ACWells13 7 лет назад +8

      I think she's angry with the techs who aren't taught properly (while some nail tech courses are AMAZING, a great many are wildly insufficient, and don't mention things like apex, prep, proper filing and removal, pinching, care products, etc....) and not the customers those people re effectively defrauding by selling a service they aren't fully competent in. (although some nail techs think they have been taught properly- and it's their teaching courses that are the charlatans!)

  • @babybutton
    @babybutton 8 лет назад +185

    The nail tech who took your acrylics off did not know what they were doing. You should never peel or rip the acrylic off. They should of either soaked the nails with acetone or used a professional electric file and filed the nail down.

    Tati I'm so happy you introduced us to this. As an animal health technologist working in an ER setting I'm always trying to find polish that will last through all the wear and tear, chemicals,etc. I am loving this combo! The actual polish doesn't seem very different from any of my other polishes so I'm excited to try the topcoat with other Essie polishes and other brands for that matter! I will be especially excited if it works with my wnw polishes.

      Aman Cheema does anyone know if Essie recommends a base coat with this line? I always use one but I'm wondering if using one or not using one, would affect the wear time? As well as to those who have tried it, what is the removal process? I love gel nails but hate taking the polish off as it takes forever and the acetone is very drying to the skin

      Every single time I've had my nails done at a salon I've ended up with at least one bleeding or sore cuticle, I dunno why. I do have psoriasis so maybe my skin is extra sensitive somehow? But it's put me off getting my nails done professionally because it hurts. Which is a bummer because I am not good at painting inside the lines and spend a lot of time doing clean up when I do my own, plus I'm a sucker for the hand massage. (Arthritis in my hands. :( )
      Is there something in specific I should say or do that will keep my skin from getting so cranky? I don't let them trim/clip the cuticle.

    I usually don't like essie because I find that the regular polish chips soooo fast and is a very thin formula (and also is on the more expensive side), but I am glad to hear that this works. I literally did the exact same thing as you. I saw all the amazing acrylic nails and fell for it and instantly regretted it. I am usually a gel kinda gal, but I've definitely felt that soreness from constant gel manicures. I'm excited to try these out!

  • @lyzawhitney
    @lyzawhitney 8 лет назад +53

    Okay... I really like your videos, but you did not tell the viewers how the product performs or demonstrate it...You just told everyone it's a good product. Luckily I own the top-coat and LOVE IT. But I don't use it over the essie polishes you are showing, and I don't really think those are necessary unless truly the polish lasts for over 2 weeks... I've found it to work over every single nailpolish I've tried better than any other topcoat I have ever used. I pair it with the OPI original formula nail strengthener as a base coat and it's a match made in heaven. My manicures last with no chips for over a week, and when I take my polishes off my nails are good as new... Edit: I will say though, that this top coat leaves faint brush marks. It does not smooth out like seche vite does, but who cares, it's a longer lasting manicure :)

    Is that top coat fast drying or not? I have a lit of difficulty standing still for half an hour for the nails to completely dry so Seche Vite is a sanity saver for me. If the Essie's the same, I'll give it a go.

      I think it dries in 10-15 mins or so. Not quite as fast as Seche Vite, but I find that Seche Vite always shrinks my polish and makes it peel. I was able to change a diaper after about 15 mins of drying if that helps! ;-)

      I think some of the shades could do just one coat, but I usually use two. I haven't had any colors that need 3 coats like some of the regular Essie polishes, but so far I've just used dark colors.
      The longest lasting effect I got was from this method:
      - no base coat
      - coat of polish
      -coat of top coat
      -coat of polish
      -coat of top coat
      I think it dries really quickly -- 10-15 mins or so, which isn't as fast as seche vite, but the results last longer.

    I've been using this polish and top coat for a few weeks now and it is a game changer. Like Tati, I've done the traditional gel polish because I am a notorious chipper. With the Essie Gel Couture, I get about a week of chip-free wear; after that, I've got too much growth and tip wear plus I'm ready to change colors.

    I've been using these polishes since July, and I am in 100% agreement with this review! I'm a nurse, and I'm extremely hard on my manicures, so before finding this godsend product, I never did my nails because I felt like it was a waste of time (to spend the time, just to have the polish chip/ wear away within a day.). With this product, my nails continue to look aMAZing for at least 5-7 days, depending on the length, bit then a quick touch up usually has them looking great for the full 14 days.

    Tati I adore you and your videos but this was really not informative for me. I get that you love them but I'm not even sure why. Did it last 14 days on you? Do you apply and remove like regular polish? Can you use the top coat with other brands of polish?

The last time I wore this product, I got a full week without chips and I am HARD on my nails. The brush is awesome too. It makes application so easy. I will be buying more colors. You can. They also sell fingerless gloves you can wear to shield your hands if you are that worried about it. Honestly though your hands get more UV exposure every time you walk outside with your hands uncovered. So in reality your hands aren't getting any more UV light from a manicure than they already get when you go outdoors.

    I'm literally doing the same thing right now...I had acrylic and gel manicures done for about 8 months and it has straight up wrecked my nail beds. I'm letting them grow out naturally now, but I'm using some ORYL nailtrition and sticking to non-UV based nail polishes (the light hurts me, too!) I think it's good to let your nails "breathe" after a good amount of damage, and there is so much you can do without resorting to acrylics or UV lights.

    Tati, I 100% agree with you on this product, it is unlike any other polish I've used in the past! I am an at-home polish girl with very rare visits to the nail salons. I consider myself, at this point, very good at doing nails and making them look like I've had them done professionally (because ppl always ask where I get my nails done and how nice they look :)) But, I do run into chipping a couple of days into the manicure and when it happens, I just take it all off and do a new mani, which I don't really mind because I love painting my nails lol. Buuuuut sometimes I need my manicure to last more than 3-4 days. My cousin bought a bunch of these new Essie polishes and I was skeptical because there have been so many brands that make these lines with these gel-like claims. So I finally tried one this week (because I'm out of town for 1 week) and I have to say, this polish has last me for 5 days now with 0 chips!!! The shine has lasted, also. Anyone reading this, try these new Essie Gel Couture polishes for a long-lasting and shiny manicure, just make sure you use the top coat that comes with it, that's the key. Trust me ladies (and gents), I KNOW nail polish and these are gems! Thanks for sharing this product Tati and I'm glad you're loving these just as much as I am!!! Best, Maryam

The Essie gel couture is hands down , in my opinion, the best. For me, it wears like iron and the best part of all of these systems is that you can take them off when you want to with just nail polish remover. I usually get about ten days with no chips. I bring it to my nail salon. Fifteen minutes in and out. Thanks for the review!

    ok nails are never suppose to hurt, ever. If your nails are so thin that your gel manicure hurts or your acrylics or whatever then your nail tech is untrained and you need to find someone better. You need to find someone who has proper education and CARES about their clients... ALSO: The Uv/led lights are NOT damaging to your skin they're not strong enough and having a huge platform like this and spreading false information is extremely damaging to the PROFESSIONAL nail industry that I'm in. If you don't know something 100% then just don't comment about it.

    Tati, I love you. But, for some reason, I thought you were going to talk about the product and why and how the top coat and polish work together not just the colors you like (although they are gorgeous). Can we get this at the drug store or does it have to be ordered from the website? You've tried other at-home gel polishes - how and why did this stack up to them or was better than them? You usually give so much information on a product and this had nothing in that realm. I'm not hating on you. I love you dearly and love your videos. This was just confusing to me.

      99emy99 I have used these polishes for a few months now. Every colour I have tried has lasted for the full two weeks. The only place where it begins to get worn down is the tip of the nail, which is why you cap your nail when you do them. But the rest of the nail still looks perfect. The only reason I even have to redo them after two weeks is because of the regrowth, or else I'd be able to leave them even longer. Honestly worth a try. I'm a mom and a Nurse and between everyday wear and constant hand washing, polishes (even the gel version from every other brand I've tried), never lasts more than three days on me. And that is if I am lucky. So for these to last the full two weeks on me is crazy.

It lasts the same amount but it doesnt mean I need to go out and buy my favourite colours again from the Essie gel range.

    My apologies if someone has already mentioned this but I've not had time to look through all the comments. I picked up a great tip from Emily Jo Donovan, she's a lovely young girl who hasn't been on RUclips very long but she suggested that to avoid getting nail varnish on your cuticles and around the sides of your nails, paint PVA or white school glue on, it dries to a film that's really easy to just peel off.
    There's probably other RUclipsrs or bloggers who've mentioned the tip too but I've never heard of this before so I purchased a bunch of empty nail polish bottles with the brushes in for next to nothing on Amazon and I'm sure that they have them on eBay too, I filled one up, tried it out and it works like a charm!

      LED gives off UV light same as CFL (compact flourescent). Same light being used to cure, just using a different bulb. LED light is higher intensity and a more narrow band on light spectrum. LED usually cures faster and lamp is specifically mfg to cure a certain brand.

    I have 4 of the Essie polishes and they are alright. They take minimum 3 coats to be opaque. They last really well the first week, but the second week they absolutely fall apart. I used the Essie top coat that comes with it, and I tried to use a base coat to see if it lasted any longer the second time I tried it. It didn't last any longer. Privat She didn't use the top coat. When she receives them she tries them with the top coat and saw the improvement

      I really don't trust her reviews. Has she ever tried anything someone sent to her and actually hated it( and said that?)

      Randi MacDonald I think that was a rhetorical question but the coulorpop sculpting stix was sent to her and she didn't like it.

    Watched this video yesterday and bought the Essie polish set today in Take Me to Thread. I LOVE THIS STUFF! It dries so fast and the color is beautiful. I can't wait to see how long the polish lasts cause I am definitely not easy on my nails. Thanks for the recommendation! Love watching your channel and all the fun stuff you try out.
