      Quit using the Oilers as the Champions in 1994. It makes everyone including you sound like idiots! Once Wayne Gretzky was traded many of his teammates including Mark Messier wanted to leave too. Did it ever occur that some of them may have wanted to play together in New York?

      I was his paperboy in 1983. He used to leave a cheque in the mailbox with my name on it as a tip once in a while, to make sure I put the paper in the mailbox and not on the porch, where I would not see the cheque. At Christmas time, it was quite generous. Super intimidating, but super nice guy.

      It's ridiculous and stupid how haters claim it was really the Edmonton Oilers who won the 94 Cup. When really it was a business decision for many of the Former Oiler players wanted to leave Edmonton after Wayne was traded. They knew the team was heading downhill and were looking to play somewhere else and many of them were fortunate to end up in New York which helped the young guys grow

    80's Oilers scored more than 4 Goals a game, they had to, GA were 3.58

    • @geoffrust6787
      @geoffrust6787 4 месяца назад

      You have that backwards- they allowed 3.58 GA because they scored 4 GF- when they played against a game that did not allow them to score 4 gf they did not allow 3.58 ga either- the 80's Oilers could and did play defensive hockey too, just now people have edited that part out

    0:59 That seems to be something you need to have a dynasty. You have to be able to play any style.
    Orr said that about the Bruins in his autobiography. (For their mini-dynasty.)
    Dryden said that about the Habs in a documentary.
    Jeff Marek said that about the Islanders.
    Messier says that about the Oilers.
    1:10 “If you can’t beat them in the alley, you’ll never beat them in the streets.”
    What’s the difference between street and alley?
    I think alley means tough game and streets means skilled game.

    • @chrisb4466

      "Streets" is supposed to be on the ice or rink. Meaning if you aren't tough enough you won't be able to win the hockey game

    As an Oilers fan in the 80s, I really didn’t give a $hit about expanding the game in the south.
    Gretzky getting sold to LA was a garbage move.
    The Oilers would have won 8 cups if the owner actually had the money to keep the team together.

    The real reason Gretzky was traded was the the dirt-bag owner of the team (Pocklington) was in deep financial trouble. That was just the beginning of his run to bankruptcy. People seem to forget about that.

    • @neilm2794
      @neilm2794 4 месяца назад

      Nope. Gretzky orchestrated that trade and Pocklington agreed to be the fall guy. You think Gretzky’s aspiring actress newlywed wife was okay living in Edmonchuck? I have an invisible bridge to sell you. He got too big for Edmonton and wanted out. He was guest starring on The Young and Restless and judging Dance Fever. He wanted the LA lifestyle.

    • @rickvolman2633

      The '90 cup was due to a year of playoff upsets. Once the Oil got past the Flames it was like the sea parted and their path was cleared. The Gretzky trade was - and still is - a stinker of a deal. The trade that gave the Oilers a competitive team was shipping Jimmy Carson to Detroit for Joe Murphy, Adam Graves and Petr Kilma all three of whom had a critical role in that run.

    The 1992 Hart Trophy was embarrassing, giving it to Messier. Mario Lemieux with 24 more points in 15 fewer games than Messier, and Brett Hull with 70 goals in 73 games whereas Messier scored goals 35 in 79 games. DOH! Messier definitely wasn't the most valuable player to his team that year. Embarrassing from the Professional Hockey Writers' Association.
