    Same metal bridge in my village was dismounted & taken from Austro-Hungary in WW1 as a trophy & mounted in our village as a gift by the pioneer's unit that our great grandfathers served in the 5th Danubean duvision of the Bulgarian Army when they came home after the demobilization in 1919.

    You should definitely take care of the mould - there is a "Savo" brand cleaning liquid that has worked good for me in the past, but beware it stinks and is very bad for your hands. Also I wanted to share a method that may help with sound quality outside. You can take a bit of double-sided tape and some (clean) kitchen sponge, cut a piece and stick it to the camera`s microphone. Alternatively, if the camera has a case, you can wedge a small piece of the sponge between the case and the microphone. This way the wind noise will be much less prominent. You could replace the sponge with a piece of long-haired carpet, just make a small hole where the microphone is. Keep up the good work!

      Hiya thanks so much for your comments and the recommendation for the Savo stuff, I think we have come across the brand before.
      As for the sound quality, we're having ongoing issues since we invested in an Akaso camera and external mic and trying to iron them out with Akaso. We're finding it really isn't easy, but at least the video quality when we're moving should be more stabilised so no more blair witch filming 🤣

    For health reasons, you would be wise to remove the mould from the wall(s) as soon as possible. While many people use bleach, it does not kill all the mould. It will remove most of it with scrubbing and rinsing, but spores will survive. You need to use vinegar to kill all the mould spores. Alternatively, use this recipe: 1 quart of hot water, 1 tablespoon of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate), 2 tablespoons of washing soda (sodium carbonate), and 2 tablespoons of TSP (trisodium phosphate). Both of these options are far cheaper than using Concrobium Mold Control Spray.

    I am a bit surprised by the level of damp as I dont remember it growing up, so I wonder what caused it but regardless, it is a beautiful house! I just want to mention - British people living in Bulgaria is my new youtube obsession and I've noticed you all know the word "pechka" very well 😄

    As others have already pointed out - you definitely need to get rid of the mold.
    But I would start with this, of course only if you take advise from a stranger - inspect the roof with a builder and check for any issues, even the slightest. If the roof is not waterproofed properly and is compromised - that compromises the entire house. Now is perfect season for this kind of job, as there is no rain. But autumn is around the corner, so...
    About the mold - use whatever good chemistry works, just don't try with baking soda and other "magical" and "cheap" stuff like that, it isn't effective.
    Actually, from my experience I can recommend a British brand - Astonish anti-mold - very good price/performance ratio, works well. Savo is not as good as Astonish in my opinion. Chlorine bleach also works, but you'll have to spray it multiple times until it penetrates, so I think a ready concentrate chemical from a good vendor is better.
    That bridge is insane. It looks like a bridge at the front in Ukraine, doesn't look safe at all.
    Take care and wish you all the best and good living in the new house.

    • @NewBulgarians
      @NewBulgarians  2 месяца назад +1

      Thanks for your comments. The builder has inspected the roof externally, but we do want it checked internally also. I recently bought some anti-mould stuff called HG Mould Spray from Amazon and Tesco, it seems very effective, but we will more likely remove the affected plaster and re-do in both the kitchen and the bedroom.
      Haha the bridge was great fun, we didn't realise the dangers until we were crossing it though to be fair.
      Thanks so much we will try our best - just wish we could be doing that right now, but hopefully won't be long now. You take care too.

    Hi after seeing this you have both put paid to any concerns we had, we originally was thinking of Italy but heard good things about Bulgaria, we are looking to retire there end of 2025, your house looks amazing, can you tell me the exact area you have located to so I can look around for houses pls? I am on the FB page and if your builder is any good we may use them when we finally settle there. You have really inspired us! We are from the UK (Hampshire) and thank you for making our minds up! @@joevans2072 Hi Jo & Wayne thanks so much for watching and for your message.
      Exciting times lie ahead for you by the sounds of it. We don't know Italy at all but know some of Bulgaria and it is a bit like marmite, you will either like it or won't 😂
      If you've not already, we would urge you to visit and try a few areas before the move over. We've lived in the South Eastern corner, first in the Yambol region close to Turkey, and more centrally being East of Stara Zagora and now West of Stara Zagora in the Chirpan region, and we like all those areas, but you may prefer more mountainous/cooler regions.
      There are plenty of properties for sale so you shouldn't have a problem finding something you like.
      We're happy we've inspired you and hope when you visit you will love Bulgaria as much as we do. Let us know how it turns out and if you decide on the same area let us know. Good luck!

    Did you have to set up the electricity account in a company name? Assuming the house was bought after 31 January 2020? If so, your electricity bills could be horrendous. You can avoid having to pay ''business'' rates for Tok by setting up a rental agreement between yourselves and the company and going back to EVN and having the account amended.

    Was it permanent or long term residency card you received? I have read all immigration info and it says you need loads of info ?

    • @NewBulgarians
      @NewBulgarians  2 месяца назад

      Hi Anne, it was for our permanent residency cards. Yes we also read the info and from FB group posts and thought that we would need all kinds of documentation. We took it all with us just in case, but none of it was required. We did check with immigration via email first and they said right from the start just passports and old cards would be required.

    Hey guys, well done on renewing residency. Nikki I have a question if you don't mind, I have tried finding info, but not having much luck.
    I'm Irish and am really hoping to make the move. However, I'm 57 am not entitled to a contributory pension (I always worked on relief panels, would work like crazy for months at a time then travel until my money ran out, then rinsed and repeat), obviously I wouldn't be entitled to the non contributory pension once I leave Ireland.
    I do own my own house, so would be selling in order to buy over there.
    Do you have any idea if this would be allowed (seems as how I won't have a regular income)? Or if you could even point me in the right direction I'd hugely appreciate it.
    I was thinking of buying rural for me, and perhaps a coastal property for rental income (again, if allowed), or I'm in the process of setting up my own business (actually it's all set up, just trying to get the courage to put myself out there), so that could be another option for me.
    Again I hugely appreciate any info you can give.
    TIA 💛
    One more thing actually, I've also heard they want to know if you've ever been divorced before you can legally buy a house over there. At least that's a question they ask men, I'm female and divorced about 15yrs, obviously I wouldn't want my ex to be entitled to anything and have no way of getting in contact with him. Have you guys been asked this type of question?
    Cheers missus x

    • @NewBulgarians
      @NewBulgarians  2 месяца назад +2

      Hi, thanks for your comment, and questions. Congratulations on being Irish btw, that will make the whole process a lot easier for you. 🙂
      We first moved to BG in 2006 - prior to when BG joined the EU. The process then was to apply for a D visa, as it is now that the UK are no longer in the EU. We didn't get a D visa back then as we had 90 days to apply for the 'new' long term residency visa (LTR).
      At that time we had to show proof of income - this was an amount in our Bulgarian bank accounts, I don't remember how much it was, but it wasn't much.
      We had to complete a form (in BG) with all our details, copies of passports, property notary act (we had already bought a house with a BG Ltd Company which we did the year before.) We also had to start paying into the BG health system which wasn't very much at the time. I believe it is a bit higher now, and we will need to be paying into that ourselves once we move back again.
      After 5 years with the LTR, we could then apply for the Permanent Residency card which is then renewed every 10 years.
      At this moment in time, I don't believe any of that has changed for EU citizens, but for your individual case I would suggest you check with the BG Ministry of Interior Migration Directorate to double check this. They have been helpful to us in the past when we have contacted them.
      www.mvr.bg/migration/en/legislation/legislation/citizens-of-eu
      As for the divorce question - well we've no experience of that, but this time we did have to show our marriage certificate when purchasing the property; we never had to do that before with our 3 other houses.
      Also when when we sold our cars, we each had to be present to sign documentation, even when the car was only in one of our names. It's to do with their inheritance laws I believe, so definitely best to check this point.
      Best of luck with your future plans, hope all goes well for you.
