Ive had 3DCoat for 2 maybe 3 years, used for UV and hand Retopo Zbrush sculpts. Only just started to learn the power of voxels in sculpting, it very useful in situations where surface modelling is just a pain to create forms. Reminds me of Fusion360 but without the tedious sketches that are needed.

    Good tutorial and series...

Awesome tutorial, thanks! I've been using Rhino for product design and it's more about prototyping. I'm thinking of jump-shipping to 3dCoat. I understand I'm posting this in your page, but I need to know is 3dCoat going to be the right tool for me or not? (btw is is possible to have parametric polylines in cm or inch and to measure them?/ am I able to make radio prototypes with some screws in it?) Appreciate your response!

Hi Kia. Thank you for the kind words of support. It's actually a good thing that you have this experience in Rhino, as your input regarding new tools and features could help to dramatically alter the trajectory of the Modeling tool development in 3DCoat. Feel free to ask Alexander...the developer of these tools...to make additions that you frequently rely on, in Rhino. The developers really do try to please, to the extent they can, and Alexander is fairly responsive. You could send him a message with your requests and questions, on the forum:
      3dcoat.com/forum/index.php?/topic/23318-retopo-next-big-step/&do=findComment&comment=173265
or email support@pilgway.com and mention that you want to address it to Alexander. Andrew (owner/chief developer) will forward it to him.

@@PILGWAY3DCoat Your helpful responses are making me decide faster and easier. I'll get in touch with Alexander as well as Andrew as advised. Really appreciate it. Cheers!

Can you make a video about how to perform booleans in this new low poly modelling tool

    Hi
Could you make a tutorial for a complete asset production for low poly, modelling - uv - painting - exporting mesh and textures?

The Blender Applink series covers these steps, starting with a low-poly mesh (Roman Helmet) imported from Blender, and the series walks through the entire process of round-tripping it back into Blender when the model is finished in 3DCoat.

@@PILGWAY3DCoat Sorry, I should have been more clear. I was talking about low poly modelling in 3d coat itself. I think I could use the workflow presented in series you listed. Thanks!

Yes. You can simply use tools like those mentioned in this Modeling series and when done with the base mesh, go to the Sculpt Workspace > GEOMETRY menu > choose Retopo Mesh to Sculpt Mesh and follow the workflow in the Blender series, from the same point. The only difference is that you are not importing a base mesh from an external application, but building it in the Modeling workspace (or using the modeling tools in the Sculpt workspace).

General statements such as "this app sucks" or "the UI is bad/convoluted" doesn't help anyone. Please be specific as to what your concerns are. If you simply don't like the layout or multiple workspaces, why not email support (support@3dcoat.com) or the 3DCoat forum and explain why it is a problem for you?
Other users may have requested what you happen to dislike, so it is a delicate balance for the developers.
For example, MANY users have long requested additional Retopo tools and a dedicated Modeling workspace. Andrew hired a developer to work on this full time, a few years ago, and now many people are complaining about it, saying more attention should go to the part of the application they use most (ie, Paint workspace)...even though major features are under development for it. It's a no-way-to-win proposition for the developers/staff. This is largely because different users have different likes and dislikes; different needs and suggestions. Another example is the fact that many users have stated publicly that they really like 3DCoat's UI, especially compared to a specific competitor's. Like you, not everyone agrees...at least not fully. We will have to do the best we can and just live with that.
