I agree but for one thing: I've just bought a 912 powered Dragonfly and I intend to fly it all over the country. The best aeroplane in the world, in my view. Strong and capable. And beautiful in an ungainly way. Sitting out the front, the world in front of you and around you, land anywhere on anything, and do a loop or a barrel roll to get the hormones running.
The point I was making is that the Jabiru is totally unsuitable for this type of flying. If you want to fly long distances in a straight line, get a Jab.Also, from reading Recreational aviation Australia magazine , Jabiru engines appear to be over reprisented in the accident and incident reports compared to the 582.A second hand Jab costs between $43,000 and $49,000. The Dragonfly is all about short takeoff and landing in the rough, high rate of climb and FUN flying. Not for long distance flying.
I started doing some home work after getting interested in these and fell over when i found out the price talking to moyes. Aud$41,400 for the 582. After getting the email with the info i fell over again it was actually US$41,400. Just rediculous i am afraid. then the 912 version for US$59,000. You could trade your Jab if you want to but you will probably need some more dollars to thow in too.
And I should have added, on a good day of thermals, turn the engine off and soar under the clouds for as long as you want. Bob Bailey and Bill Moyes are quiet geniuses.
That was fun - Thanks for sharing!

Beautifuuul - but you've gotta hope there's not someone else with the same idea coming the other way!
All three are dragonflys
Who can share drawings of the aircraft?
No drawings are available. The kit is from "Liteflite".
Time to trade in your Jabiru!
VERY COOL! im going to be getting an excalibur(challenger) ultralight with a 582
Great video ruined by overloaded background music, would MUCH prefer engine sound for the feeling of being there
Horrible music , please put the sound of engine...
Dog-awful music. What kind of crap was that? Christian "rock"??
