  • Without access to water of an appropriate salinity and quality, mangroves won’t flourish.
In areas where natural water sources are limited or where tidal influence is insufficient, channels can be an effective way to bring water to a planting site.
To do this, members of the EarthLungs team dig massive trenches from a main inlet, such as a river or tidal channel, to the planting site.
This strategy allows reforestation efforts to be expanded to areas that would otherwise be unsuitable for mangrove growth. This in turn helps to restore and enhance the coastal ecosystem, provide habitat for wildlife, and protect against erosion and storm damage.
