You sound suspicious of evolution, and rightly so. Evolution is a new age religion that attempts to explain the origin of life. This creature, like all creatures, have been coded with instinct. The code is in their DNA, like a computer code, and no intelligent code ever produced itself. God is one name we use to describe our Creator and DNA code is an easy way to see that we must have an incredible designer who created us with words. (Our DNA is created with chemical letters.)
Now, I might ask, why would God make the cuckoo to be such an awful bird? And then I remember, we live in a fallen world. This is only a trial life. There are many more evil things than this particular parasitic bird. Men do more evil than this creature. If we turn away from our own evil ways, and turn toward the Lord Jesus Christ, we will be saved and enter the heavens where these kind of problems no longer exist. There is a spiritual evolution, but with our heavenly Father watching over us, and not by chance.

It's bizarre to me how the mother, seeing one of her young fall out of the nest before her eyes, does nothing about it. It's some evidence to me that this bird at least doesn't really have emotion, they're just programmed to do certain things, like feed any young bird(s) in its nest.

There is no conscious thought involved when the cuckoo chick throws the other chick out. It will throw anything out of its nest because the genes that evolved to cause a chick to do that have become commonplace in the cuckoo gene pool as it's such an effective survival strategy. Plenty of bird species have a defence by being able to recognise their own eggs or spot cuckoo eggs and eat them.
I recommend "The Selfish Gene" by Richard Dawkins for anyone who wants to understand how these instincts and adaptations evolve beyond just seeing the animal as "cruel".

They don't deserve cuckoo clocks. They should all be replaced by other birds as a model.

I like the cuckoo being food for some wild cat, that would be nice. It is not bird baby, it a devil in form of bird. The mother could feed it and they babies too, but the devil want take the lives of the mother true babies.

A mãe Cuco já age de malandragem, agora vem o filhote recém nascido com essa estratégica de jogar os ovos e os filhotes para fora do ninho, como pode não é que sabedoria macabra é essa ??
Alguém pode explicar aí por favor???
