Or just use google music (free with youtube red). Or you can use the free google music app upload all your songs to the "cloud" and you are set. Plus you can download whatever you want from it. If you don't want to use data or wifi then yeah just plug into your pc and drag them over.

I saw Brain Candy in Tulsa. I got to meet Michael before the show but not Adam. I had my Scissor Lift poster thing for him to sign. I saw him come out of his bus on his one wheel but it was too fast for me on my skateboard. I tried to catch up for a few blocks but he was just way too fast. Plus I was trying to skateboard on brick which is never good. But Brain Candy Live was still really cool and Michael was an awesome person to meet.
In Spotify - select your mp3 folder/folders under Local Files in Settings, then add what you want to the playlist/playlists and download those playlists on the phone. So easy and so fast.
iTunes is one of the worst plagues in the history of computing. That's one thing I love about non-Apple products: just drag and drop the music to the folder in the device and you're done.
I went through hell and back getting my 100,000+ music library (which took me months to convert from CD to MP3) to be catalogued in iTunes, and then trying to place selected albums onto my phone - no no no, so now, my library remains on my server, and I use Spotify - for any albums that I want to listen to from my collection offline and on flights - I import into Spotify.
I usually listen to the podcast but had to switch to the youtube version to see Adam's cool new Leonardo da Vinci scripts. I also love that you guys gave us a warning of spoilers on Hamleton. It's not coming to my Town until this fall. Can't wait.
I find it odd that you've positioned your camera to ensure the microphones cover your mouths.
I flew 4 flight days through a total of 168 parabolas with 35 researchers on the flights with NASA. NOBODY threw up on any of the flights. It's the high-G portions of the flight that make you sick. Generally if you don't do anything dumb (move fast etc) in the high-G portions of the flights you don't get sick.

I thought iTunes syncing was a pretty cool idea back then when it first came out. but I never got into it because drag and drop music was just easier on pc.
iTunes is the main reason I haven't used Apple devices since the iPhone 3G. I still have no idea what was happening every time my iPhone & iTunes were "syncing".
And I'll never forget the first time I plugged an Android phone into my computer and it came up as it's own drive. I thought, "Is that really so hard?" Like Adam said though, that's not Apple's business model.
iTunes was the thing that made me break-up with Apple and never look back. I had one of the original iPods back in the day and I had enjoyed (and trusted) it so much that I transferred all my music from my CD collection onto my PC and iPod and let go of my collection. Then iTunes decided I didn't have the right to listen to all that music that I had taken the time to transfer from the physical CDs, that I owned, and wiped my entire music library. Never. Again.
Why are you guys hiding behind the microphones? Why not position them lower so we can see your faces better?
You can import pics and vids from i phone on mac by using the utility included in Mac OS. Shows a list, import some or all, and can delete from device afterwards. All original files and no importing to photos App.
copy over your files to the device directly, use VLC, avoid issues. If you can't copy files over to your device, it's not your device.
I've never had a good experience with iTunes and I switched to Spotify a couple years ago and it's so much better
I would imagine having the Arctic Short Film on RUclips would make it ineligible to many film festivals, as they require film entries to not be available other places while playing at their fests.
I used to be able to periodically empty all of my photos and videos from my iPhone to my MacBook, then bring only the last 6 months or so from Photos app back onto the iPhone to save space.
They changed it so you can no longer do that, probably to try to get more people using iCloud (which I won't do for the same reasons Adam mentioned.)
A shame the CineQuest festival in San Jose/Redwood City has just ended. That movie would probably do really well there.
I find Apple similarly frustrating to support (my wife & daughter's phones) vs moving a micro SD card from my old phone to my new phone.

Well, even if that happens (I hope not), at least flash on Android is pretty cheap. These days phones with 64G of flash are pretty affordable. Android makers don't tend to charge $100 for $15 worth of memory.
totally agree on the apple rant, i like the old itunes app you can just click shuffle immediately entering the app
My first computer was a Mac, and I generally like Macs and Apple, but itunes is one thing that makes me say I'll never have an iphone, not even if you paid me.
Another thing that I really don't like about apple is how incredibly difficult they make it to get music off of any device if you didn't purchase it off of iTunes.

Your apple rant reminded me of old iPod days. I actually downloaded a program called anapod explorer to avoid dealing with iTunes. Kinda sad that nothing has changed in nearly 20 years! Ps. google play music lets you both trivially download music for offline playback and upload your own music

I'm not a huge fan of Apple, but I've never had issues (other than one really specific case scenario) the method for getting music from iTunes on to an iDevice is dead simple if you have the MP3s on your computer. You just add the music to the iTunes library and send it to the phone/iPod. Given I left Apple just when Apple Music came out, maybe things are different now, but yea. That's my two cents.

thats why im so glad i stopped using ios...itunes pissed me off so much and even using mediamonkey wasnt good enough. i love being able to drag and drop into a micro sd
The microphone/talker placement is a bit awkward in this episode. Maybe this could be fixed in future episodes?
Adam should try to buy a dedicated digital audio player just for listening to music. And it saves some battery life for his phone.
Adam: did you summarize your how-to transfer your songs? Would be very interesting from a great communicator.
I once had the same apple problem in the early 2000s that Adam just had.

Meanwhile my N8 still has the original songs i put on it, when i bought the phone on launch, along with every other song i've been craming in (64 gig card formated to fat32 in case anyone else wants to do that).
anyone notice the minor audio sync issue on Adam with his bluetooth? it's small, but noticeable.

Apples recipe was ease of use and convenience, so I personally do not understand why they would ever do things like itunes..
I was going to ask why are they not plugging the mac into their recorder and having headphones and cut out the half a second delay echo of Adam, then I realize that laptops have moved away from the practical two-ports for headphones and microphones and have now transitions to the fucking annoying single TRRS combo port.

Yeah, as a longtime Mac user I agree about iTunes, Adam! They keep sending that popup window asking me upgrade, and as long as my version works, I'm keeping it! I was forced to upgrade a while ago and it took a way too long to find my familiar menus and sidebars. Plus with some artists that are my favorite bands I always but a physical CD right form their bands online store. Foo Fighters always give you some bonus think or package deal. I love having the artwork and then I can rip a cd I own on my computer. I hate all the permissions and blocking and having to treat music I don't own and get their version. Plus it can drive you crazy what they don't and do have and when they get it or remove it from iTunes. Dealing with record labels can be tricky, but it sucks when an artist will sell CD's at a big box store exclusively (like Bob Seeger) and not make them available everywhere. Plus I hate how Apple dictates how and when I can do what. It can be infuriating what they let you do, then decide not to in the next version of OS. All to get you to buy something you don't want, don't like, and frankly doesn't work for you like the old version did.
I used Sharepod to get all my itunes converted to mp3 & onto my android phone & binned my elderly ipod.
Unfortunately the critics destroyed Ghost in the Shell with a 4-5/10 rating, regular viewers were not so cruel with an average of 6.5-7/10, I really liked it :-(

Directions for Adam to manually copy music to his phone:
1. On the iPhone, go to:
- Settings
- Music
- Turn *OFF* "Show Apple Music"
- Turn *OFF* "iCloud Music Library"
2. Plug iPhone in to computer
3. On computer, open iTunes
- Click on the 'devices' icon and select your phone
- Click on the "Music" section
- Check the "Sync Music" box, and choose "Entire music library"
- (Or choose "Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres" instead to pick specific playlists/etc..)
- (OR, go to the 'Summary' section, and check the box at the bottom "Manually manage music and videos", then you have to manually drag your music/videos on to your iPhone.)
One big thing: This relies on your iTunes library holding your "correct" music library. If you primarily store your music outside iTunes, and iTunes has your songs all screwy (as you imply on your Hamilton album) you may want to wipe your iTunes library and recreate it, re-importing all your music.
You may also want to turn iTunes Match off on the iTunes store, if you have it on. Keeping it off will prevent the odd "matching to the wrong song" thing you also mention.
And to think, I have to plug my Android in to my computer and just copy over the files... such a fuckin' hassle.
I like only iTunes for buying music when Google Play something gets track unavailable (country restrictions) but Android file management is good imo
Buying Apple products is the equivalent of buying a beautiful, well engineered car, with the hood welded shut ... that will only let you but gas at certain gas stations ... that won't let you drive certain places the company does not like, but it's a wonderful, comfortable, car as long as you only try to do what the company wants you to (which of course can change at any time)
I have to completely agree with Adam about iTunes. The weird way it manages it's library hasn't changed in years and is utterly terrible!

iTunes is the worst thing and killed my use of Apple products. Such a huge and truly weirdly made interrupt between my files and my device. There is already a system for them on every computer ever. Its called a file directory. Its made to move and distribute and organise files.
*Spotify Premium* If you take your local files and add them to a playlist and download them, you can also download them on your phone/tablet
My work phone - a Galaxy S6 got stolen out of my hand the other day, and I've been using an iPhone 5 as a temp until my replacement S7 arrives. And it's painful to use. The touchscreen is horribly unresponsive compared to a Galaxy S4. Ugh.
Downloading video from Android: Plug in USB, there it is, drag/drop.
Downloading video from iPhone: plug in Lightning BOLT cable, unlock iPhone with iTouch, update iTunes, use AirCloud to load music from iTunes, convert to AAC, update iTunes again, plug iComp to AirDock by AppleHome from iCloud, iDrop music to device, insert AirPlug into...
Or use VLC for iPhone. Plug the phone into the computer, open itunes and go to the apps tab, click on VLC and drag and drop video into itunes which it then automatically puts on your phone. I've not run into a file that I needed to covert before VLC could play it.
Well, VLC is pretty fantastic, and I've never run into any well-formed media it can't play either. I'm mostly poking fun at the "closed ecosystem" Apple pushes for, how back in the day proprietary technologies enabled us to do awesome things like this a little ahead of their time, but now its become a burden with the ubiquity of computing technology and free, open-source code, a la VLC vs. iTunes.
The newest Jobs movie really puts this into perspective: "Does it have email? Yes, but of course you can only send email to an iMac from another iMac." Cook's Apple knows this I think, they're locked in a battle against their own proprietary technology where standardized components and open-source code are beating their shit hands-down.

Wrong, Android dosnt force you to install itunes in offline mode to be able to load offline albums.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I f the music comes from physical CDs, the only difference btw android and iOS is that instead of dropping it from the CDs to the computer then to the cell phone, you drop them to iTunes then to the cell phone... Not a difference worth choosing android over iOS in my opinion. Especially considering the privacy advantage of iOS over android. I would never take the chance to put ANY sensitive information on any android device. But hey, all tastes are in nature

Also can you still drag your own music into itunes? I haven't used itunes since i've had a ipod nano with the chrome back so things have probably changed a lot by now. Remember when apple made ipods? a device where you only needed a HEADPHONE jack and a 30 pin connector lol I feel like Steve Jobs would've flipped the f out on whoever said lets make an iphone without a headphone jack. Why does Norm always have the mike in front of his face? He talks into the bottom of the mike 1/2 inch from it like he's sniffing it. They use big, bulky mikes and stands that would be fine for an audio only podcast but are distracting as a video cast.

Frustrations with iTunes like what Adam is saying is why I went to android, never looked back.

Google Play Music... Only service able to handle my 64K+ song music catalog with ease. Sure, it still has issues...music is such a personal thing, but I have used pretty much every service out there..and Play for me beats them all. And it supports FLAC as well.
I wanted my Seagate wireless external drive for streaming to my devices [phone]. And Apple provides no storage capacity as stock in their phone,

I don't understand why spoilers need to be included in podcasts not about said spoilers. I enjoy your show, but when you drop in a spoiler about an expensive, hard to get tickets to show, which basically just opened, it irritates me. I have no way of knowing how long you plan to discuss this spoiler, so I just drop out of the podcast completely. With all the remote recordings, and delay of audio as well as the echo, I feel like I just can't continue to listed to Tested. Because I enjoy each of you, I'll stick around for a few more, but I'm on the fence. Hopefully someone will pay attention to the feedback. Brent

I had a Apple iPod Touch for years before I got a cell phone, Android by the way, and I still use an old MacBook Pro as my main school/surfing laptop and I use it almost everyday and I have an Asus Windows laptop for gaming, editing, and programming and such. Apple builds one great device and my only real complaint about them is the software that comes mandatory with it and that seems to be a complaint we share. I don't like having to go through an appstore and pay for apps I can get for free on my windows, if I can even find the app I want in the store. Additionally, I don't like that I can't take any of the music I bought on my Apple devices and bring it over to my Android phone. I really want an Android capable set of airpods because they seem like a great and useful device. Apple makes great products for people who don't want to go in, tinker, and use a physical connection to move things. For an average user their software is intuitive, but it isn't very conducive to really involving yourself and working with the software.
thas wy i keep my ipod touch 3gen and a old vertion of itune and a power mac g5 as a music server to manage all my music but ther i a way to turn evriting of and go full manual in the resent itune

Everything you're complaining about is done on purpose in order for Apple to maintain their control. That's their entire business model. I can't imagine it ever changing. So why are you still using Apple products and services and complaining? Nobody is forcing you. They obviously aren't made for users like you (and me). We need control of our devices because we use them to their limits. If you don't like the service provided, use something else.
