  • The worst thing that can happen while at a unique sighting is to have a mechanical problem which immobilizes your vehicle. This happened to us on the road to Shingwedzi, while we were stopped watching a leopard kill. We had a crack in the sidewall of our right front tire which failed at that specific moment, leaving the front wheel resting on the rim. We were seven kilometers from Shingwedzi rest camp and had no way of moving forward. Thankfully a safari operator who was at the kill with his clients had a can of 'fix-a-flat' which he gave to us. With this we managed to inflate the tire to about 30% capacity, just sufficient to get us to the rest camp. We waited just as long as we could but unfortunately, we eventually had to alight from the vehicle and the leopard and her cubs took off into the thicker bush, leaving everyone at the sighting disillusioned, and more than a little angry at having the sighting spoiled. Fun times!
