If I remember correctly what really got Alex Jones on the firing squad was when some of his listeners began harassing and stalking the parents and faculty of the Sandy Hook incident. The actions of canceling his bank accounts, credit accounts, and refusing to process transactions going to him set a really dangerous precedent that can't be undone, because deplatforming became far more common after this. Not to the same degree, but many ppl decided that a broadcaster or host is now responsible for what their listeners and followers do. Further it became what someone says is as useful to predicting what some may do in the future and holding them personally responsible now. This is what happened to Joe Rogan here as well when he got covid and just went down the list of all the treatments he was on. The very mention that he had used an unproven treatment was enough for educated ppl to call him a murderer for encouraging pseudoscience. This was all so strange that even with a conversation I had with a micro biologist, they claimed that Rogan is telling ppl to use that unproven treatment just by mentioning, and that his past claims and talks were evidence that he shouldn't be dispensing medical advice, despite having don't no such thing. I think it was more out of stubbornness they didn't want to admit that there's a clear difference between saying something, doing something, and that ultimately you cannot be held personally responsible for what others do. The conversation ended in a loop after I pointed their hypocrisy for promoting critical thinking, except when it comes to something they hold a firm belief in that has no objective truth, and calling it faith, as they have often expressed their intellectual superiority over creationists for believing in a god without proof.

If I remember correctly what really got Alex Jones on the firing squad was when some of his listeners began harassing and stalking the parents and faculty of the Sandy Hook incident. The actions of canceling his bank accounts, credit accounts, and refusing to process transactions going to him set a really dangerous precedent that can't be undone, because deplatforming became far more common after this. Not to the same degree, but many ppl decided that a broadcaster or host is now responsible for what their listeners and followers do. Further it became what someone says is as useful to predicting what some may do in the future and holding them personally responsible now. This is what happened to Joe Rogan here as well when he got covid and just went down the list of all the treatments he was on. The very mention that he had used an unproven treatment was enough for educated ppl to call him a murderer for encouraging pseudoscience. This was all so strange that even with a conversation I had with a micro biologist, they claimed that Rogan is telling ppl to use that unproven treatment just by mentioning, and that his past claims and talks were evidence that he shouldn't be dispensing medical advice, despite having don't no such thing. I think it was more out of stubbornness they didn't want to admit that there's a clear difference between saying something, doing something, and that ultimately you cannot be held personally responsible for what others do. The conversation ended in a loop after I pointed their hypocrisy for promoting critical thinking, except when it comes to something they hold a firm belief in that has no objective truth, and calling it faith, as they have often expressed their intellectual superiority over creationists for believing in a god without proof.
