The Rite of Spring provokes a general thrashing and a fight during its first public performance in Paris. Here is the version that pays "homage" to him. Igor Markevitch conducts with a crazy, violent, ultra tense energy, pay attention to your speakers. It's a fascinating sound experience. The craziest version we've ever heard with a magnificent sound recording.
    1. The Adoration of the Earth
Young people, standing, circle around an old woman and listen to her with great attention. She knows all the secrets of nature and is initiating the young people into its mysteries. The pulsations of spring are expressed by the young people's tense faces and their gestures. Young women arrive from the river. They dance together in a round dance in which the young men join. While dancing, they struggle to free themselves from the men. A procession moves forward, led by the oldest member of the tribe and a wise and holy priest. A sudden fear grips the young men and women. The priest lies down, arms and legs spread, on the ground and blesses it. Slowly, everyone begins, with rhythmic movements, a dance in praise of the earth.
    2. The Sacrifice
The young women dance to a mysterious melody, encircling the immobile form of the one chosen as the victim of the sacrifice in the spring. The earth around her has been cleansed and consecrated. The spirits of the ancestors are invoked and the elders slowly surround the place reserved for the sacred dance of sacrifice. They grab the young woman, who has collapsed in terror, and force her to dance. Drawn mercilessly into a savage dance of death, she finally succumbs.

I heard this enormous work for the first time as a small boy, as part of Disney movie "Fantasia". The animation was unforgettable, even though not related to "Consécration des Printemps". Disney and his team, including Stokowski, read this violent music as a story of the creation of Earth. It ended with the fight of the dinosaurs and the destruction and extinction of those huge beasts.. The music has lived within me during many many years and it does not lose any of its beauty and tragedy. Thanks classical Music for uploading the remastered recording in a superb rendering. It maintains its mystery and its freshness after more than a century.

Oh my... this is indeed far superior than any other interpration that I have ever heard! Great job with remastering it too... The sound emits presence and authority, all the instruments are so well defined.

I might imagine "the rite of
    Spring", but wondering..
While nature, after winter is trying
to rebirth, how comes, so violente
    composition should touche us,
    so far, during the spring,
it is not the war !!!
    Unless, my ignorance,
this creation was made during a war.
Now, while reading the rite/story of initiation,
The youth were probably trying to fight the illusions
    of life.
Nevertheless, my thoughts, waves the life
    differently.
I like parts of this composition.. even if it's
far to wild for my ears.
