Honestly, the whole movie is ASMR. The way they speak, the sounds of them interacting with books and the world, all of it.. it's great.

Roman Polanski does a great job with tone and focus: His tone is usually very smooth like a wave; while his direction is similar to David Fincher, where they both use a lot of quick insert shots and comparisons of information and props - to keep your mind on the story.

Seriously underrated movie. Almost a lost gem but thankfully it has a loyal cult following. It also has one of the most impressive musical scores of all time. I do hope it gets a 4k UHD release some day.

One thing to remember is that these rare book collections (Fargas, Telfer and Balkan) survived the Spanish inquisition, Nazi Germany and were kept hidden from the Catholic church for centuries.

Whats funny is how everyone smokes and drinks around the books in this movie. Cigarette smoke is the kiss of death for anything you own. The smell will get all over everything, especially books and paper.

its really clever that he's playing a violin (aka the devils instrument) when he looks through the books emphasizing that he's probably playing in memory of Lucifer.

The Baroness described Fargas as a "non-believer" and he was clearly the least obsessive of all the collectors.
I always assumed that the murders were effectively a requirement for the ritual. Otherwise, it seems like Balkan would have been able to get what he wanted without anyone dying.

Honestly, I wouldn't cross the street to see Johnny Depp but the other actor in this scene, Jack Taylor, is the reason I checked out this movie. He has lived in Europe for decades and acted in many cult Spanish horror films of varying quality. Also, he has worked in the English dubbing of those films for export and dubbed Paul Naschy several times.

Autonomous sensory meridian response. Otherwise known as that satisfying feeling you feel when you hear Dean and Fargas flipping the pages in the books. ASMR is a very useful tool in may ways. This movie is a goldmine. Just from Dean talking itself.

Viktor Fargas possède un livre d'une valeur d'un million de dollars. Mais il ne s’en séparera jamais. Il vivait plutôt dans une maison en ruine sans meubles. Je peux si bien comprendre ça...😂😂😂
