This feels a bit manipulative by google. It forces you to essentially sync your photos and then tells you youre out of space so you need to buy more and then doesnt make it easy to make more space.
you delete the pictures from google photos to make space, then google WILL DELETE it on your phone as well. Talking about data take over ! Pay, or delete !
Yeah agreed! I like some of their Memory tools but it should be set up so that it accesses your photos not stores them

Thank you SO MUCH! I was getting so frustrated by my photos being deleted every time I tried to delete a back-up. Google should be ashamed that they resort to this practice.
Sorry for bothering you, I'm currently having the same problem as you I suppose! I would like to delete my images from Google Photo without deleting them from my phone gallery to finally recover the free 15 GB that I used to send emails. Will this tutorial allow me to recover my 15GB Google for other things and not cause me to lose my phone gallery?
@s7r_extixan Yes, it works, just follow the same steps. One very important thing to note is that once you've done it, do NOT choose the "review out of sync changes" option in the Google photos APP, as it'll take you to a page where you can see the photos you deleted on the Web google drive and will basically ask you if you you wanna delete them from your phone too (so that both your drive and local photos are synced)

How do you turn off the backup? I pressed the button that specifically said to stop backup but it didn't stop backing up

Thanks I tried your method Trevor and it works. Deleting photos on the Google Photos app deletes the photo on my phone but deleting photos on phone browser keeps the photo on my phone. I'm using a Pixel phone.

Never had an issue with my google email until 2 months ago when it wanted to store my photos and while I was half asleep I agree to it…not knowing they would charge me later..I already pay for apple iCloud storage…I don’t want to have to pay for another program to save the same photos. I was going to delete my email account then it warned me it would delete all the photos..so here im looking for a solution I think I figured it out with y’all’s help, thank y’all! It's not just google photos that loves to take over your electronics, Microsoft uses one drive which does the same thing. If you delete anything from one drive it deletes it from your computer or phone.

Go to that picture in Google photos and click "delete from device". If it's uploaded, it stays in the cloud and gets deleted on your phone.
You would thinkna multiple billion dollar company will have better methods to do this in the app.

Thanks for the video. I usually keep backup off for one of my Google accts. I turned it on and it automatically took up all my storage. The out of storage warning keeps showing up in my e-mail, so I disabled backups. How can I undo that specific backup for my Android10?

It didn't work for me because when I wanted to delete a photo on the web, it asks "Remove from your Google Account, devices with backup turned on, and places shared within Google Photos?". I knew from this message that my photo on my phone will be deleted as well. I deleted this photo and just as I thought it deleted the photo on my phone as well. Does anyone else have this problem? I don't see a workaround. Another related question: Even if this works as you suggested, doesn't the photo will show up on Google Photos again once it does a Backup in the future?
that's what happened with me. The only think I can think of is to temp stop back-up or do not back up photos.

It says remove from "devices with backup turned on" so maybe try turning off backup on your Google photos app(from 'Photos settings' in profile) and THEN deleting it from the website?
Ig you'll have to stop backup to prevent it from showing up on Google photos in the future.

Sync your photos to google photos then backup them and go to gallery delete photos from it then check your google photos you'll see them there and they aren't deleted

How to do the same from google drive? My google drive shows as full but google photos has space (for same account), if i open google drive, i cant see any files but storage shows as full.
This didn't work at all. Deleting in Google Phots via webbrowser also deletes from devices. Test using dummy photos

I need some help. I turned off Google photos back up. Just before that I transferred by exporting them out of Google and I’be added them to ICloud. As I only one one place. I need to delete all the pictures from Google photos now and your video is helpful but it seems I can’t see my pictures since the back up is off. I’m not sure if it’s me or this is harder than it should be.

Can you mass delete them on the web rather than one at a time
On my app it doesn't give me an option "don't allow". It's Android. And I also realised that on the web browser my photos aren't backed up for 2 years. However, I tested your web browser trick. I deleted an unimportant photo. Then i went back to the app. Yes, the photo is there but the other photos that aren't deleted have an icon on the right bottom of the photos. When I delete a photo, the icon disappears. I also got a notification saying that the photo will be deleted permanently in 60 days so I'm not sure you'll have your photos on your phone after 60 days.

Bro turn off back up sync option on google photo app it will be stop the auto upload of your photos
Go to the Google photos app in your iphone settings and uncheck the "all photos" under "Allow photos access", select "None". Your iphone photos will stop showing in the app. You can them start removing the pictures from your google account, if you wish.

I accidentally synced my pictures to Photos and quickly filled up my space, this made my gmail get filled as well. So I unsynced and deleted a year months worth of pictures and memes because I wanted to make space on my drive for stuff I actually want to back up. Now I lost all of that in my phone. That's messed up on Google for syncing deleting.

I downloaded this app on my iPhone I gave full access to my gallery and now thr cloud memory is full, I only want the photos from android phone in my Google photos cloud, but when I gave access from my ios device it had also backed up the photos from ios gallery, how to delete only them and keep android ones in my drive. when you remove from the trash permanently, dont do it on the app like he said but do it on browser where you actually moved the photo to bin. thats how i did mine and it worked :)

Hello, i am using Android 12, i would like to how to deny access to Google photo from backing up from SD card
Fellow android12 user here. go to your google photos app and tap your icon in the upper right corner. There you should see the backup option between your account storage and your google account. That will stop photos from being uploaded to the google photos website. I still have no idea how to delete photos from the website without them being deleted from your phone though (would like to know that).
