There are several things that help Anstruther over English chips shops.
1) They use haddock which is arguably a tastier fish than cod
2) It's impossible to get a fresher bit of fish, They buy the fish straight off the boat and in Scotland there are shorter distances between the fishing areas and shore than in England, that fish was literally doing back flips in the North Sea that morning.
3) Scottish Fresh Air is the best seasoning.
I’m from the central belt and only went to Anstruther for the first time 3 weeks ago! It was hands down the best chippy I’ve ever been to 🙌🏼
I took my Future Wife to this place and her mother made out I was a loser. Ultimately, I have twin Daughters due to the amazingness of the Fish Bar in Anstruther!!! It is the greatest taste sensation I have ever had in my life.

That chip shop is a 7 hour drive from my house. The fish looks so good, I'm thinking the journey might be worth it.
I live there it really good but possibly not worth the 7 hour drive but if you are nearby I would definetly suggest it

I drove 1 hour and 30 mins for one today and although I really enjoyed it I cant see me driving that far again for fish and chips especially when theres one 10 minutes from me that in my opinion is about on par.
long way to drive for the best fish supper in the world....best you come for a few days , and bring your clubs with you... you will be in golf heaven here !!!...

Charles and Camilla came to East Yorkshire and visited a celebrated chip shop.
Although it was a sweltering hot day Charles was wearing a fur hat and visibly perspiring.
Curiosity overcame the owner and he delicately asked HRH about the hat.
Charles replied;
"Well,I was chatting to mama about this trip to Bridlington and she said "Wear the fox hat ..."".
Derek called this one a while ago, he wasn’t wrong. Looked like great fish and chips..must visit 👍
I love that place. Every time I visit St Andrews I always stop in Anstruther to get a fish supper.
The chippy down the road from there is also fantastic.

I live in anstruther it's not the best. We have 3 chip shops and they are better.

@@joeshaw7193 ive never seen the waterfront. I'm in Kirkcaldy so I try and get through to anstruther a few times a year so next time I'm through it will be the wee chippy I go to. Cheers for the recommendation 👍

Live in Dundee n traveled many a time to here for the fish supper plus curry sauce absolutely amazing, good video 👍🏻👍🏻
Watched food review club for time on Facebook just new to the RUclips page, I stay in Glasgow but own a caravan up in anstruther and have been to the chip shop many of times and can happily say one of the reasons we have kept our caravan in the area, fantastic fish and chips
As I said in yesterday’s review, I think The Bay in Stonehaven is better. A lot of locals in Anstruther actually prefer the other chip shop in town, but that’s not to say the main one featured here isn’t good. It’s just a bit too busy and was better a few years ago, in my experience.
Aye the Bay in Stonehaven is epic as well. Marco's in Arbroath is up there.
Haddock beats cod every time. Looks mega.

Looks very good. It's a gotta be one of the better fish fry's I've seen. i would say the par boil the chips then double fry them from appearance. I think the batter mix is injected with CO2, sort like a soda. Which would account for all the air pockets. It's hard to create that effect by whipping the batter. plus u don't want a perfectly smooth batter. should have some lumps in it. When u drop the fish in u should drip some batter over the frying fish piece and that creates more nooks an crannies and crispy edges. The snaky floavor u discuss might be some type of alcohol, since alcohol evaporates at a lower temperature then water would add to crispness and flavor in a sneaky way (doubt its rum, more like vodka/moonshine).
Guys... The fish looks ''Thin'' because that batter is thickwith bubbles and texture... Believe me its a solid bit of fish. They only take the best fish in this Chippy. Plus that was HADDOCK!!! :D

This was great to see! This place is part of my childhood, I spent many summers in Anstruther and Crail with my parents and we would often get some fish suppers out of here and they never disappoint!
Love this place. I stay in Kirkcaldy so it's not too far away. Unreal fish suppers! Glad you gave it a go.

You need to try a place called harbour view in seaton sluice Northumberland. I eat there every Friday and their haddock are gorgeous!!

I was in the queue for this place yesterday when this video was uploaded and I 100% agree with everything you’ve said in the review 10/10. I even got a portion of the curry sauce you never got, it was just as good!

Batter is too crispy and dry for my liking, most people I've spoken to recommend the Pittenweem chippy, nice moist batter and a better price from what I remember. The view of the harbour in Anstruther on a summers day whilst eating any fish and chips from any of the chippies can't be beaten though.

Me my dad and my sister had a fish supper there when I went to visit my grand parents in nearby Crail when I was a kid my dad told me it was the best fish and chip shop award winning my dad got me and my sister each to get a photo taken holding the supper up in front of the shop good memories good video

Food Review Club had it last night it was lovely
I live about 20 minutes away and love to go here every few months. Don't listen to the locals who say the wee chippy is better, they just can't be bothered with the queue!(although the other 2 are good chipshops!) One positive thing with tier 3 in Fife, no tourists so not even one customer in the place at 5pm).
I'm sure they do a membership card there, they defo did a few years back anyway!

Probably used sparking water to mix the batter with. That's what I use when i make better for fish. This definitely made my mouth water

I was looking for a way to commute to this place, the only option I could find was a two hours bus from Edinburgh. It's basically an adventure to get here if you don't have a car, but I think it's worth it, not only for the food, the whole place looks amazing.
Looks lovely, Jones fish bar in Newport South Wales may not have the beautiful scenery but it’s up with the best of the best fish and chips shops that’s for sure.
When I worked on a fishing trawler in the late 90’s I went to a chippy near the Aberdeen harbour and it had a Blue Peter plaque up voted BEST IN U.K. .
Back then it was around £7.99 for a fish supper. It was good gear.
I’ve had a cracking fish supper at the harbour in North Shields.
Another harbour chippy in Maryport Cumbria does excellent fish supper.
And my local in Annan called the Cafe Royal.
Top class.
(I’ve also eat at chippys in the U.K. that are TERRIBLE. The worst I had was a bland tasteless potatoe pate thing, disgusting, and half cooked chips between Carlisle and Newcastle, forget the town name).🤷🏻♂️🤟🏻😁

I simply refuse to believe that there is a chip shop better than Giovannis in Piershill, Edinburgh. By far Scotland’s best chippy. A must go to tourist trip if you appreciate quality freshly cooked huge fish and chips. By the way, you must ALWAYS review the brown sauce in Scottish chip shops. Integral part of a “fish supper.” I might be wrong but I’m sure this mob from this chippy in the video opened a chippy called The Tail End in Edinburgh and it was really over rated and mega expensive. It closed down
I buy bottles of chippy sauce from my local supermarket and post it to my niece in Wales as that's one of the things that she misses having moved down there from Dunfermline a few years ago. I'm sure it's a central belt of Scotland sauce as it's made by Gold Star in Glasgow, the same company that do the chippy pickled onions. When my aunt had a chip shop she bought it by the gallon and filled the dispensers on the counter.

You should try Mary Janes fish and chip shop in Cromer next chief. Beautiful soggy batter and mushy fish, greasy overcooked chips and curry sauce with the consistency of arse gravy. Served to you by a young man whose face resembles a margarita pizza!!!

Thats a bubbley batter like we have in Yorkshire nice piece of haddock to the tastiest fish chips look absolutely cracking too we need more chippys like this everywhere in Britain

Not worth the price you pay and the waiting time in the summer is ridiculous, there’s other chippys in the area that are a lot better

It's very strange, when we golfers tried Anstruthers two years ago, after all the hype we were told about there fish & chips, we just had to try them, we found them to be nothing special at all.
I wonder if they have different fryers, because our fish was greasy, the taste was nothing out of the ordinary, & the chips i'm sorry to say without being to harsh, were mank, yet what i see on this video, they were no grease, it looked great as did the chips, so I don't know, they must have had an off day when we were there.
To be fair they looked truly delicious. Worth the 10 out of 10 .

Best fish and chips i ever had was at leyburn yorkshire and bottom of the hill robin hoods bay looked similar to them beauties
