    One of the proudest days as an Australian when our gun laws were completely changed. 22 years now without another mass murder. Thank you to Walter Mikac. What a tragic but powerful story.

    I remember this tragic event I went to port Arthur in 2019 and visited the site, it gave me goose bumps as I walked through the memorial garden

    @ 4:30, my heart skipped a beat (the shot of Walter and Nanette at Port Arthur in 1986, 10 years before that fateful day)
    This episode was hard to watch, my anger that the gunman was allowed to live (wake up Australia) tempered by the incredible strength and achievements of Walter (esp gun reform).

      I hear you mate. However I wonder whether killing these monsters would be less of a punishment rather than having them live each second of the rest of their miserable lives in pain, isolation, without hope of ever walking free and with the knowledge that the whole world despises then for the miserable pieces of sh*t they are.

      @@kramnic8240 As a current serving Prison Officer of 23 years in NSW, I can tell you that this type of human doesn't feel the pain nor isolation. They are not concerned that the world despises them as they continue to spew hatred, harm and manipulate the small world within the confines of the prison system with all the services afforded to them. They are an unjust and significant financial burden on the taxpayer, funds which could be put to far greater use elsewhere. Thank You Kramnic for your reply.

      @@MrBenHaynes that’s a very good point, and I guess my assumption was incorrect. I get where you are coming from. Thank you for the clarification. I have a question though. Do they really not suffer the isolation / lack of freedom at all? I mean I would go crazy in a week…

    • @MrBenHaynes
      @MrBenHaynes 2 года назад

      @@kramnic8240 It depends upon what conditions they experienced prior to incarceration as to how much they suffer isolation/lack of freedom in gaol. Martin Bryant was presumably socially isolated prior to his heinous crime and his freedom constrained by finances. It is wealthy autonomous individuals that relatively "suffer" more, the likes of Obeid, Epstein, or Adler. I've witnessed many people commit crime to improve their living conditions via incarceration.

      I did happen, Walter was my local chemist when he lived in Melbourne in Watsonia. I remember his wife and girls calling into the Chemist when I was there, only once. She was lovely and girls were very little and smiling being in Daddy’s shop. The locals were gutted and outside the Chemist where he worked was covered in flowers. I remember Walter as a lovely smiling chemist. I remember the staff in tears. Why on earth would a good man and father make up a tragic story like that.
