The DMUs were originally running from Seoul to Yeoncheon or Dorasan but due to them having been in service for a very long time, they instead put locomotive hauled trains on the line (specifically the remodeled Saemaeul passenger cars)
Sadly, it is not expected for Korail to purchase new diesel locomotives, since the former government decided to electrify all the tracks in Korea. But some of them will be saved for in case of national emergency. If you are interested in the new EMU-150, please feel free to check my video about ITX-MAUM!

Very interesting video! As a German, I especially hope you also will see reunification of Korea in freedom in the near future. The way the border is designed and how you can visit it is quite different to how it had been between West and East Germany before reunification, though. Therefore, very interesting to learn and watch!
They will reunite in due time. Austria & Vienna reunited between the East & the West back in 1954 by a neutrality agreement between the USA & the USSR, Vietnam reunited between the North & South back in 1976 after the USA was defeated by the Fall of Saigon, Germany & Berlin reunited between the East & the West back in 1989 after the Berlin Wall fell, and now lets hope that the two Korea's can get their act together, and come to some agreement that they can both live with, and reunite this once great country as well, while the USA is currently mired in conflicts in the Ukraine and the Middle East as well. It was the USA's late President Harry Truman that originally divided these 4 nations back on August 10, 1945 as per the Yalta and Potsdam Agreements, and the Cairo and Tehran Declarations signed back in 1944 stating how the world would be governed when WW2 ended, which it did back on May 7, 1945 between the USA & the USSR which were allies back then. Then in May of 1947 the Chinese Civil War erupted and by 1949, the Communist took power in Mainland China, while the corrupt Nationalist led by Chang Kai-Shek fled to Taiwan, and is still there until the present time.

Very sanitized border tourist trap. Contast this with a real border tour I took when I was in the USAF and toured Observation Post Alpha at the Fulda Gap in early 1980s. Now that was not a sanitized tourist trap. You were right at the border in a real working forward observation post with fully armed troops on constant watch, with security precautions taken by everyone in my group. Adding to that reality there were scores of grave markings a dozen feet away just outside outside the DMZ fence of those souls who were killed when trying to escape East Germany, all this while you were being closely observed and photographed by East German troops who were not more than 100 meters away. Now that is real tension.
Sort of a train to the general area of the DMZ and not in or to it. It leaves you off at a station near the DMZ area, then a bus will take you to the public area for a look at the 'Z' and into the North. The train doesn't penetrate the DMZ or go into North Korea. I think at one time they did have a train that went to the Kaesong area to check out business opportunities there where the North supplies very low-cost labor for labor intensive requirements. The other was a road that went into the North was mostly used for semi-trucks on business runs. Only military troops actually penetrate the DMZ, where they enter on active patrols and into specific areas.
You are right! The name of the train is derived from DMZ just because it goes near the area, not into it. It is strictly prohibited for anyone to enter DMZ. As you said, there were some cargo trains which goes to Kaesong about two decades ago, but it stopped currently. Thank you for your correction!
many ktx-1 series is late 90s TGV model based (Official operation in 2004. Except for the first initial introduction trains, is scheduled to be retired by 2029) Also now KTX-2 (Sancheon) series and KTX-EUM (a semi high speed train with a max 260km/h) and EMU-320 is Korea's high speed train lineup that will continue the new era of the next ktx

You are right! The first KTXs are based on TGV. Korea did not have high-speed train car technology at that time, so Korea bought trains from France. (Korea makes its own trains now.)

Kind of surprised that DMZ has changed into locomotive-hauled trains. I remembered that DMZ was operated by a DMU before COVID-19

The train is a regular train now when I did this trip in 2019, there was a special DMZ train.

8500대 전기기관차는 HEP(객차전원공급장치)가 미탑재되어서 발전차를 별도로 연결하여 다닙니다.

You can check it on the website of Korail, but the subway does not go to Dorasan station currently. The tour is necessary to go inside the Civil Access Control Line, and bus tours are the only option for now.

16년도 DMZ관광열차 타고 갔을때는 제3땅굴 관광시 단체관광이라도 영상에 보이는 열차(?)타고 이동했는데 방침이 바꼈나보네요😂

영상 촬영을 위해 허가를 어떻게 받았는지 궁금합니다
열차 출발해서 도착할 때까지 각 칸에 통제하는 사람이 있는지 궁금합니다
군 시설물과 일부 촬영 금지 시설을 제외하고는 촬영에 제한이 없습니다. 인솔자 분들이 열차 운행 시작부터 관광지와 열차 운행 종료까지 함께 다닙니다.
