Now 10 years old and still helping people. Just did my old seat yesterday, and with the help of this video and one other I got it right the first time, looks brand new!
Nice job, glad we could help! Thanks for watching.
I did it this morning, following your advice and there it is. I got it perfect. Very useful video. Thanks
How much pressure did you use?
Through the miracle of video editing he makes it look a lot of it easier than it really is. Be prepared for tons of wrinkles and having to pull the staples out over and over again and realigning it. Give yourself a good 2 hours of downtime
Yeah I was trying earlier to install my Luimoto seat covers on my Hayabusa and I said hell naw I’ll take it to the upholstery shop
Thank you, simple and easy tips for recovering your motorcycle seat....just what I was looking for...Thanks
Getting ready to order a seat cover for my xr650
Really good vid: informative and simple. Thank you, sir.
Best install video on here for me. Turned out great! Thank's!!!
How much pressure
This helped very much now my derbi penkki is very mintti
Lay out the new cover and hit it with a heat gun for a bit. Makes it much easier to stretch to avoid wrinkles
I agree it makes things alot smoother in cooler clumates
Climates lol
Throw it in the drier for 15 minutes so it'll loosen it up, and you'll avoid wrinkles as well!
How much pressure did you use? I have a similar pneumatic staple gun, and I tried sinking staples into the seat pan at a range of pressures up to 120 psi, but they still won't go in completely.
camoronL We are in the 120psi range as well but it seemed to be a bit more pressure than we needed. Around 90psi seems like it would be about the desired range but it will depend on the seat pan and the staples you are using. I would make sure the gun is firmly pressed against the cover and pan before shooting the staple. Doing this will give the staple a better shot of getting farther into the plastic. If you get a few staples that haven't seated all the way you can simply tap them in the rest of the way with a small hammer.
can i use any material, not just one that is made for seats? How do i make a seat material myself?
I got one of the Attack Graphics ones and it did not have enough material on it to install it.
Aaron facts I’m trying to instal mine rn and it is so hard
Step one, leave the new seat cover sitting in the Sun for 30 minutes while you remove the old cover...
How long were the staples?
I believe these staples were 1/4" long.
What would happen if you use an arrow electric stapler with 3/8” 10mm staples? Would it still work just fine?
I'm sure you've already done it by now, but at long as the staples are going in then you're going to be fine.
No
Tried the electric Arrow stapler and had to return. Utterly useless. Not enough power by far.
Thanks for the tips. I'm at it now !
Awesome. Let us know if you have any questions! Thanks for watching.
What pressure did you use
How much pressure??
I have the dimensions of my seat and some pictures, is there someone on your site that can help me with this purchase?
Tony Stevens Each seat will be specific to itself so it would be better if you could order a cover that is specific to your machine. What machine are you working on?
Rocky Mountain ATV MC
I have an X-Treme 5000Li Moped. www.monstermotorscooter.com/xm-5000li.html
That is why my moped is not in your system.
Tony Stevens Without having the dimensions for each seat cover it's going to be hard to find one that will fit your seat. You might just be better off finding a local upholstery shop and asking them to recover it. The only other option would be to compare your seat to any available atv seats you have access to and finding dimensions that way. Sorry we couldn't be of more assistance.
What type of staples? Aluminum, black steel, stainless?
Any 1/4" steel staples should get the job done for you.
what pressure do you have your staple gun set to
Around 90psi is what our gun is designed to run at. I would recommend you go off what pressure your staple gun is designed to run at. It will either say on the gun or in the instructions that were included.
wow thank you
What pressure should I use
how in the hell can you use a manual gun the staples dont evan scratch the plastic under the cover
+Chris Bradford I've seen it done. You have to assist the staple sometimes by pushing them down in a little deeper. I've used a common screwdriver to press them in do it, but it's doable. Sometimes the average guy doesn't have an air compressor to run a neumatic staple gun, or in some cases doesn't have a neumatic gun, so ya got to make due with the manual one :). A lot more work though!
I have a air gun but what staples do I need
+Chris Bradford 1/4" staples are really all you need.
ok that works thank you sir :)
Chris Bradford exactly I tried to do this and now I have to go buy a 50 dollar item I didn’t know I had to have
Do not by a seat cover from vintage roost they do not stand by there product .
Great video as usual
What staple gun and staples are used in this video?
Surebonder 9615A Upholstery Stapler w/ 1/4 staples.
Rocky Mountain ATV MC Will a surebonder 9610A do the trick? I just purchased the 9610 because surebonder website said the upholstery one wouldnt take the 1/4" staples
Chase Burnham yes.. that's the correct model.
This was 9 years ago lol, I bet that staple gun done doubled in price.
why cant you just. cover the old cover with the new one ?? ty.
You could do that but a lot of seat covers fit very tight and without removing the old one, you may have a hard time getting the new one to fit correctly. Also, removing the old cover will give you a chance to inspect the seat foam and base for any damage.
I guess there isn't any magical secret to this then is there? It sure is a pain to get all those wrinkles out.
Jon Moore It's just going to depend on the seat and the material of the seat cover. The seat shown in this video should be more towards the more difficult seats to re-cover. Some people will heat the cover up to allow it to move and stretch a little easier but it just takes time and patience...
Rocky Mountain ATV MC Thanks, I got it done and once I got it on the bike, the wrinkles went away. Thanks again for the video!
