- Today we visit my N Gauge Layout Dale Green for a running review of the NGS Hunslet Shunter.
This review focuses mostly on the actual running, on Peco Setrack including insulfrog points and Radius 1 track.
PLEASE NOTE I DID CLEAN THE TRACK BEFORE FILMING!
Despite being fitted with a stayalive capacitor, running wasn't as smooth as was hoped.
You have to be a member of the N Gauge Society to buy one of these locos - for more details see: www.ngaugesoci...
i have a few points on my layout as well. Tried a kato shunter as a first loco, my god runs slow and as sweet as a nut. if there's stutter, clean the wheels or track on the points and the running gets even better. Cannot fault the precision of Kato other brands im guessing wont run as easily but then again make sure all the track and point work has good electrical connection i.e. track is pushed fully up against one another.
I'd certainly check that ALL the electrical pick-ups/wipers are making good contact with all six wheels. That insulated point is a pretty large gap for a small shunter, but the wheels should span that gap I would think?
i think all shunters in n gauge should come with stay alives pre fitted! when you have electro frogs fitted on your new layout it will run much better though.
Yes, I hope so!
Analogue and set track insulting point just don't go well in N gauge in my experience!
Makes me wonder tho Kato pocket line that electric shunter . Doesn't miss a beat . N there the lowest price going yet best runners why
Exactly what I was thinking. I have a pocket line 4 wheel unit and it goes through set track points without hesitation.
Yep at a snails pace too@@alexwild1435
