Sammie Smith one of my all time favorite singers singing some of my most favorite songs. Will always love you Sammie Smith you gave your soul in singing sad songs unlike any other. Always remembered in thankful loving kindness. 🌹🌹🌹
She had tremendous talent. I have loved her music for decades. Definitely one or a kind. The line about " the freedom or my chains" tears at your heart. Captivating lyrics.
thank you Eric for posting this. RIP Sammi thank you sweet lady for all the beautiful music with that beautiful amazing voice. still listening 2-17-21 her voice just gets prettier & prettier so underrated....
this was also a single n the B side was a song called I Just Wanted to Sing...but I cannot find a recording to listen online it's just not there. If you have this single/I used to but no more/ Plse post it as well I'd appreciate it So much, she was a stellar singer. Tks for post'g this.
Close to the best version I've heard of this. Most keep to the beat. I'm waiting for the version where the singer pauses an extra beat just before the very last line ". . . I can almost feel your lovin' arms again." -- as almost an afterthought. Then it would be perfect.
Have you heard the Etta James version? My favorite female vocalist of all time and it's more than a beat she allows before the last line. m.ruclips.net/video/GUyxqS0E3JQ/видео.html

Millie Jackson is my fave too. This is good tho
This song had to be recorded by hundreds of artists but the consummate version remains by Petula Clark
David Allan Coe does this.
