- I've always thought the fight against Rex sucked ass because all I could ever do was run around tossing chaffs and shooting stingers, rinse, and repeat. It was always tedious, frustrating, unenjoyable and it never once felt like it was even testing the actual skills I'd been amassing all game long.
Well, turns out, I'm a big silly goose who, for twenty years, never realized stealth was a fucking thing in this boss fight.
Soooo, guess I've got egg on my face there. \_(:/)_/
Oh my goodness, thank you SO MUCH. There's another video of the Metal Gear REX boss fight made by Boss Fight Database and all they ever did was tank the damage and spam their weapons. So good to see someone using the methods the game wants you to use.
I've been playing this game for 30 years and always thought REX knew where you were at all the time, I had no idea you could stealth him lmao
Nostalgia. Summer of 1999. Took me two weeks to figure out this strategy. I stayed between his legs and circled around back the whole time.
Phase 1 i used chaff to stealth him.
Phase 2 i used stun grenades to stealth him.
I been plsying this fir two days straight. I can beat Rex untouched with this strategy.
I’m stuck on phase 2 with no rations and barely any life. This method seems like the only way I can beat Rex, given that I have only 3 stinger missiles (I non-stop blaster Rex with them in the first half to get through the fight) until I can get to the room corners. Thanks for pointing out this stealthy method- I was starting to get super frustrated.
Update: it’s working and is way easier
your technique on phase 2 help me a lot (go between the legs) thank you so much!
This game needs a remake with ultra 4k I miss this game. my first ps1 game that I can beat without walkthrough because I completely memories this game. Rip grey fox 🦊.
My technique was to shoot the antenna with the stinger straight up the first time...go under Rex....and go the opposite way which ever foot he moves go while staying behind him...and once he stops for a look around....hit the antenna from the back end....and repeat..you'll get hit with the beam a couple times but you won't die
I used the exact same technique- I thought this was how you were meant to fight him! But most of the videos on RUclips have Snake stood right in front, firing stingers and constantly getting hit by Rex’s missiles.
7:22
7:51 the way liquid says I SEE YOU!!! 😂
I had no idea you could stealth the shit out of REX this way, this is awesome.
27 chaff grenades? Gtfo. I only have 4
You absolute king! Copying you was the way I finally beat this guy
Oh, so that's how you're supposed to beat him. I always thought you just had to dodge his missles and stuff.
Finally a way of beating this part properly. The missile dodging option is more epic and emotional if you're in the second phase of beating Metal Gear REX. You know, after Frank Jaeger's final farewell and request to Snake.
@@odavidsilvalima still tho, the hotboxes are wonky as shit, the explosion radius is way too large and you can barely move out of the way in time.
Or maybe it's because I'm playing on PS Classic and there's fucking input delay
@@TheRealBlazingDiamond I'm playing on PSP and I had a lot of anger trying to beat both REX and Liquid.
Just be thankful the second phase didn't need you to use the PSG1
Im trying to make the MG Rex on Scrap mechanic and this is a really good source of how it looks from weird angles like for that :y
Sounds wicked
I've been thinking of doing the same but with physical scrap metal. Imagine using a tuning fork to represent the rail gun module.
@@Obiwan1994Kenobi-iv4jf a tuning fork? Yeah, I hear there's an amazing purple stuffed worm in flapjaw space that has one!
I have fond memories of this game. And I always went under the legs and stayed there. Made it easier, especially in phase 2
The laser and stamps would always get me there
And you don't have to lock on him you cab shoot him from underneath just aim at the cockpit and fire that is when he turns blue and stops moving
I literally just hide underneath REX the whole time.
As soon as the fight starts I immediately run right underneath REX and stay there until Rex stops, his Field Of Vision goes blue, then I pop out and shoot a rocket at the dish. The FOV goes red, but he doesn't actually know where you are. He may try a stomp move, but apart from that, he'll just go back to aimlessly looking around and walking back and forth until he stops once again, leaving you to repeat the process.
It is a bit tricky during the radar dish stage because the FOV is so far back and you need to run out to the side to shoot the radar. But it is a lot easier during the exposed liquid stage since the FOV is very far forward and you CAN damage liquid by just shooting him from underneath. You do NOT need a direct hit on Liquid to do damage.
Doing it like this you never hearing the dreaded whine of the rockets being fired and as such pretty much only ever have to contend with the stomp and laser, with the machine guns being used if he does manage to spot you once you got him with a rocket and are running back underneath him.
I've always beat Rex by hiding from him
Im sorry but that was abit painful to watch. In the time it took you to do both fights id of done both fights 3 times. But you did show me some stuff i didnt think was possible so, well done :)
How tf do you do it then? I’m genuinely curious cause this is a good video
Estabas con la energía más baja cuando empiezas la segunda etapa de la batalla y al instante fuiste decapitado por Rex... para mí es más divertido cuando no se reciben daños ☺ de todas maneras 👍
Told ya bipedal tanks is a stupid idea
To be fair if it was pitted against virtually anybody else and it was deployed with support it’d be nigh impossible for any ground forces to destroy. Unfortunately for our favorite metal T. rex, it wasn’t supported and it was deployed against the clone of the world’s biggest badass who’s already experienced in destroying Metal Gears.
Does holding a grenade make you run faster or something?
nope
